From what we’ve seen so far the hunter deadzone seems to be in WoW Forever which is a shame. The mechanic is not very fun and makes for very annoying playing in tight spaces like dungeons & raids. Please consider to implement the TBC fix for overlapping melee/range at 5 yards.
Agreed!
Deadzone is horrible for hunters gameplay
This and also hunters should have focus instead of mana, i loved cata version of hunter
I still don’t understand why people see this as an issue. I played a Hunter in original World of Warcraft, and my very first character was a Hunter. I never had a problem with the dead zone because it’s all about situational awareness and adapting to what’s happening.
If a boss is moving toward you, drop threat and reposition. If you’re in PvP and a Rogue gets in your face, you’ve got traps, Disengage, your pet, and other abilities to create distance and get out of the dead zone. It’s part of becoming a better player and knowing how to react to different situations.
Honestly, I’d expect people to complain more about having to carry ammunition and arrows. If you run out, you’re going to be doing significantly less damage. But complaining about the dead zone? That’s a new one.
It is an issue because it forces bad game design upon a single class.
It was only in the game due to hunters being one of the last classes Blizzard developed before releasing WoW in 2004. The entire thing was pretty rushed so they didn’t playtest this enough. It was fixed by TBC so clearly blizzard realized it was a bad mechanic.
As a hunter main it is really liberating going from classic (8-35y) to tbc (5-35y) just for this reason, you are finally free to do range damage as soon as you are outside of melee range.
It serves no real purpose other than making the class feel clunky.
Ideally I’d want to see deadzone removed and auto attacks detatched from casting like in wotlk. That way the class isn’t punishing you for clipping auto shots either.
All I can really recommend is that you watch the deep dive whenever it starts today. I’ve already told a few people here to watch it, because they might highlight something about this. If there’s a Q&A, maybe someone who plays a Hunter can ask the question directly.
All I can hope is that the community team in the US are actually looking through the threads here and combining them with similar posts on the US WoW Forever forums. But if the way they handle the Retail and Classic forums is anything to go by, I doubt we’ll ever get any confirmation that the issues we’re highlighting are actually being passed on to the developers.
Its all about damage and the playstyle that opens up if u remove deadzone.
Being able to weave by 2 steping is by far the most fun ive had playing as a hunter.
And to feel you can always do something instead of nothing like the rest of all the classes.
“I have to think outside the box to kill this frost mage” i dont buy that.
All I can say is that you clearly never played a Hunter much in PvP back in original WoW. Back then, there was a lot more forum activity and community discussion because there was no Discord, so people openly talked about what could be improved.
Hunters would constantly mention the dead zone and how you had to avoid getting trapped by every class, because people would always try to get into melee range and prevent you from doing much. That’s why you had abilities (wing clip & traps) to slow people down and create distance. If someone got into melee range, you used that to get away and then start attacking with your bow, rifle, crossbow, whatever you were using.
It meant you had to be very aware of your positioning in PvP. PvE was never really much of a concern because people just got used to it. But if what Autriel said is true, and the dead zone wasn’t actually intended to work that way, then I think a lot of us who played Hunters back then simply adapted to it and played with it in mind. I don’t remember many people complaining about the dead zone, other than when someone got killed in PvP because they literally had an enemy in their face the entire time.
I didnt play alot of pvp back in the original wow. Ive played the last two releases. People are 100x better in pvp now than first release. What you are talking about doesnt exist anymore
Exactly. That’s why I said back in original well ![]()
Just wait till they learn about not being able to shoot while moving or having to carry Ammunition ![]()
Edit: Oh god, I’m gonna have to gather Soul Shards again…
To me, it’s part of the Classic challenge of playing a hunter. It’s one of those things which you don’t want removed. I hope they stay true to the principle, or hello retail-feeling.
Agreed. Also because the game was much slower and more tactical back then. Getting close to a Hunter was a way of countering them. Hunter’s in Retail feels like they’re just 40 yard melee, because they can shoot while moving as long as they’re in range.
I personally also hope we’ll see a return of the original Rock-Paper-Scissor way of PVP.
Plate is strong against Physical, but weak to magic.
Mail is semi-strong against Physical, and fair against Magic.
Leather is fair against physical and semi-strong against Magic.
Cloth is strong against magic, but weak to physical.
So a rogue would seriously consider attacking a Warrior or Paladin, but would stalk out a Mage or Priest for an “easy” kill, depending on the skill level of their target.
Which is all good, but think about the fantasy of that for a second.
If you’re a real Hunter and you’re shooting at an enemy, then they come a particular distance away from you and stop and you can’t reach them with your melee, do you think you wouldn’t be able to point-blank shoot them? I’m sure Legolas would disagree with you.
Just say melee weaving is too hard for you and pick a different class.
You are whining about balance in a game you know NOTHING about.
What a joke
Bring back Hunter combination of weapons, with 2x1hd or 2hd for within the Deadzone and a ranged weapon for outside of it. And of course ammo. Nothing more fun than forgetting taking enough ammo to a dungeon

Guys , Dead zone is from 5 to 8 yards . Melee is from 0 to 5 and range is from 8 to 35 or 40.
How can it be? Outside of my melee and not in my range?
But let’s stay true to the principle of this non existing madness.
I just want to know how was this invented.
Have you ever occur to you that this mechanic is not supostu be fun? Its in the game to limit and weaken your class on purpose.
You need to work on your skills and situational awareness if this really is a problem for you.
Learn to play your darned class or get out of here and get yourself to retail where there’s no dead zone, no mana, you can shoot at point blank range and also have pet battles.
Stuff like the dead zone was implemented for a reason. Learning to cope and work around it is part of the skill of playing a Hunter.
I should have expected this really. The announcement for the new game’s only been out a couple of days and already we’re getting countless posts with “plzzzz make this game exactly like retail” requests on the forums
Hopefully all of it will be ignored by Blizzard. The whole point of this is that it’s Classic but with added extras, not retail with a classic paint job.
Actually saying that was probably a bad idea. We’ll probably get Retail Boyz on here posting “p0lzzzZZ gueF uS p3T batTleS pLzzzzzz” now.
