In World of Warcraft: Forever, every character name is an opportunity to express yourself and establish your identity in Azeroth. With the addition of two names, players have more room to create something personal while keeping each full name unique within a region. That means you may still be able to use the same first name as another character, but your complete two-name combination is unique to you.
I’m disappointed we’re not getting it in proper WoW. Though I understand why it’s necessary in Forever. Maybe some day…
I think the issue with retail is that the current server architecture and spaghetti code or whatever terminology is best used for the ancient and long maintained systems they have in the background is preventing this. It will probably take their engineers quite some time to untangle it all and ensure it is implemented smoothly…maybe with free renames for all characters as a one-off.
It’s the kind of thing I can see coming with an expansion launch.
One day.
Why’s this name restricted on Forever?
Trying to use “Beer Wolf” says it’s blocked due to a mature filter… I’ve been using this name since TBC and long prior as a nickname since the 90s!
Im taking a guess and say the word “beer” might be due to refering to “alcohol use” (Yes i know it’s stupid but thats blizzard and their restrictions for ya). Whereas “Beerwolf” technically bypasses the “filter” by being a combination of the words aka made-up word instead of the standalone “beer” in classic forever.
Funny considering we have Brewfest going on in the game as we speak ![]()
They’ve been moving to a mega server very slowly. Forever will be a test bed. If it works well it will come to retail.
Yes, there’s literally a Alcohol based event in the game with a ton of beverages containing alcohol ingame that makes your character drunk… so for the word to be blocked is beyond stupid.
I know, go figure ![]()
I seen a guy called Illegal Migrant, Was quite the good chuckle.
I understand why they’ve introduced second names; but I think it will become more of a nuisance than it’s worth, particularly with the level of immaturity across the WoW playerbase. Should have just kept it simple with the one name. ![]()
I want to use the name Conan Barbarul, but it says it’s restricted, what is this?
I may not make anything with “King, Queen, Lord”
And I may not take “User”.
But “Drug Use” checks out, that’s okay.
“Drug Wolf” also works. Maybe you could switch to that? Some would say it’s a step up. Others wouldn’t though.
Have fun reporting people.
That’s a level of effort I can’t be bothered with. Other people will do that, I’m not going to waste my time. I’ll just judge from afar. ![]()

it’s so easy, i reported some pretty bad ones on beta. we know they’ll get a ban. just think of the rage when they can;t log in.

How is it different from Charactername-Realmname system we got, apart from the fact that we can’t pick custom last name, only from pre selected ones? When Blizzard started uniting realms into groups I suggested that they might just moved us to biggest realm of each group, shutting down smaller ones, and just renaming our character copies as if they are still being played on that old realm that was turned offline in the background.

Trying to use “Zexy” in a name is also blocked in Retail last time I checked. Meanwhile I had a character with that as a part of their name for many years.

What about non-alcohol beer???
I seen a guy called Illegal Migrant, Was quite the good chuckle.
I really want to post the image I saw on the web with that character and the… erm… “human warrior”, but I’d get banned.
-=EDIT=-
I suggest to everyone to not mention what names they want to use, because some bad party may attempt to reserve it and, even worse, ask you to pay them to release it.
I have already written in a notepad file names for 2 characters I plan to create but I am not sharing them.
i think it would be nice. much less competition for names. or like.. I could also be named TbMa, which I might want; just that I had to have a different surname. Not sure how many more possible names there’d be, but a lot. TbMa AFK, TbMa Yoyo and TbMa Fullroll are three examples. That’s triple the amount of TbMa’s. So I figure it’s pretty much endless with a surname. And it’s cooler, more individual, than a realm name addition.
My character’s for sure rolling in the RP ruleset. I don’t want to see stupid ‘game-y’ names.
But if I’m honest… I’m likely not going to be playing much anyway. Too much interesting stuff coming in Retail. And the combat is just so much better in Retail. Which is what the WoW gaming experience revolves around.
EDIT: You know what’s interesting, by the way. That this Blizzard post is made on the Retail general forums, but not on the WoW Forever general forums. Funny how that works, isn’t it?
