Wasnt it planned to be “classes” by the devs? Then why are we getting speedeunning? Something that has no place for the average classic / forever player?
Dont design the game for the top 5% or the streamers. Design it for the median
okay after watching (part of so far) the episode. its clearly not speedrunning. but the point stands blizzard. “speedrunning” is a term for the top players. its not the median of player.
what the episode is “An overview of Classes” - so perhaps change the title to that instead. its fine you have a streamer or 2 as guests. but dont cater to them. because they are in this for content first and fun second - the general players are in this for fun. “content” is not considered. because they are not CCs
basically what i got is that mages and wl stilll have the uper hand. screw quests / dungeons jusrT AOE farm and ure awesome…more or less
Really enjoyed the podcast, keep it up guys! It’s really refreshing to hear an honest take from the design side of things
“we use the feedback”
procede to dismiss and ignore the voices of those who hate seal twisting
something from blizzard will never change, good to see wow forever have an Ion equivalent
Also, already nerfing retribution?
why is gay kitty being promoted by blizzard? wheres the beta suspension for breaking the social contract?
Wow no offense to your intelligence, but that’s a cheeky title to the video because they were cramping discussion on all classes over barely an hour. That’s why they’re “speedrunning”. They’re not talking about the game, but the podcast itself.
You can go holy shock instead of seal twisting. Enjoy that ![]()
Great podcast for the specs that was represented, I wish we could hear more insight on the specs that didn’t. Many spellcaster classes have been worried about the new base damage reductions on spells and it has not been adressed enough.
For example elemental shamans have had significant reduction to both base damage and scaling coefficiency on their core abilities LB and CL. CL is not testable on the Beta since it is a level 32 spell which makes it hard to give feedback on. The same way the developers seemed unaware about the change on Fear range for Warlocks, are they aware that the change on base cast speed (and reducing the cast time talent from -1s to -0.5s) severely reduced the damage scaling of LB and CL.
Rank 1 CL at level 32 has been reduced from 200 - 227 (+0.714 coefficient) to 85 - 97 (+0.571 coefficient) which is significant to say the least. With reasonable spell power it’s going to do LESS DAMAGE THAN A LIGHTNING BOLT even if it chains to 3 total targets while costing MORE THAN DOUBLE the mana. The balancing doesn’t make sense and hasn’t been addressed with several weeks of Beta.
The shaman talent trees are also a complete mess where you’re forced to pick up bad points just to move down into the tree (see row 2 - row 4 in elemental that got worsened with the change on Elemental Fury) and enhancement has no good options when they’re finished with their 31 points as Elemental Fury got moved, they still want Improved Fire Nova but have to put so many useless points in elemental just to get there.
Please give us shamans some love before the launch of the game.
I don’t want to play an half holy hybrid i want to play a retribution paladin.
Also shockadin have already been nerfed with the champion of the light nerf from 100% to 60% of spell power from int
Also watch again the podcast, the akward silence after the question about shockadin being viable. they know it won’t be but they don’t care
I actually really like the current seal twisting talent.
I would rather keep it that “simple”, and bring the difficulty through the dungeons and raids.
I don’t want to focus too hard on damage, but have time to use my tools as a Paladin to support the group.
My issue is that there is really no alternative to that and the shockadin is already nerfed.
Not that having to go holy to play ret was something i wished for
Man, this is so annoying. TBC Shadow Priest is the defacto Classic final version of Shadow Priest. The only time it’s been flavorful and cool. Just add VT back., or merge VE and VT into one.
Sidenote: Bring back Elemental Mastery!
Okay, so first of all thank you for this 1h podcast providing some interesting insights of developers on the way they think about classes. ![]()
I understand it’s difficult to fit all the classes and furthermore all of their specs/talents in such a “short” format but it’s always nice to have.
Please, it would be so much appreciated by the community if we could have such podcast fully dedicated to each class. So that all of us could really understand the reasonning on each spec’s perspective and talent rational. ![]()
Because I mean “Stoneclaw totems”, who uses that? And putting talent point in it, really?
Are there other classes having these kinds of hard choices?
I guess the community could help providing new ideas for continuous upgrades for you blizzard to select.
And so I would like to highlight 3 things regarding “hybrid classes” and shaman since it has always been my main character.
Damage done :
I am a bit concerned with the suggestion of “Warriors are supposed to be the king of cleaves (physical dps)”, “Rogues are supposed to be the best solo target DPS”. Ok that is nice to know, so where does the other melee classes fit in? In fact why shouldn’t any class be able to compete? This would ensure people are playing the class they like and not choose a class depending on the expected damage output (since they should be very similar). As long as any melee class (ret paladin, feral druid, enhancement shaman) are able overall to keep the pace in term of damage ( or else set a margin, maybe a 2-3% of difference output) compared to “pure” players (this is also true for ranged casters) then I guess raid leaders wouldn’t hesitate at all on which class to choose. This is the “Bring the player” first mindset because he is good in what his/her role is supposed to do. And then you bring him/her for all the sweet buffs and non dps related aptitudes that they have.
The down side of having “not competitive” hybrid classes is that most raid leaders will decide to provide the best looted weapons to the top players doing the most damages. I don’t see a world where an hybrid will be rewarded just for providing the adequate buffs and not doing the expected damage compared to other classes.
To push this to the limit of this mind experience, it means a Thunderfury or Sulfuras would anyday always go to a warrior and a rogue. But wait, I thought the main motive for wow forever is also to make sure the lore and the fantasy for each class is there. So how can these weapons (it obviously applies to normal epic ones) could be given to the hybrid or fantasy expected classes? → Allow these classes to be competitive with any other “pure player” ones. And then bring the players for the buffs. Or make it a one class only weapon (joke).
Buffs
So now let’s talk about buffs. I just read today What’s Best for WoW: Forever - Party Buffs or Raid Buffs? - Wowhead News.
Oh boy I hope the developers mindset is really not : “If an Enhancement Shaman was the lowest DPS class in the game and buffs were raid-wide, you could only bring one, or potentially none if a Restoration Shaman could drop Windfury for them!”
Wrong! I really respect old time players and players with huge time spent on WoW but please respect the classes.
Respect the players.
The rational should always be, let’s take this player because he/she is just an awesome player, respecting the rules, avoiding the avoidable damages, monitoring the threat… And then oh wow this player also brings nice buffs.
So… no, solely the buffs shouldn’t be making the big deal of a change in the encounters but it should make it really nice and cool to have.
I don’t know, make it a ratio, the buffs should be making a 2-3% dps increase for the raid (all buffs together), this way only tryhard guilds might look in the best builds and specs/classes to bring to a raid. But everyone else just don’t even think about which buffs and consequently which class to bring. → Bring your friends, bring you skilled players. And have fun, it’s a game after all.
Spec and Talents
The community spoke and a lot of interesting questions have not been mentioned at all during the podcast (I mean 3 questions per class is obviously too little) but I’m pretty sure there has been no stats on the most popular requests per classes. Example (sorry i’m an enhanced shaman) : What’s with the shaman tank / talent and build? So expected question. ![]()
-> Will the shaman be a real tank? Will it only be for assist?
I’m pretty sure any player would rather the spec and talents be clear wether you can or can’t play the role but don’t make it an in between, please. Either let us do it, if so please give us the right tools and make it work properly. Or, it’s fine not to let us do but make sure we can be competitive in what we can/are supposed to do. Druids can do all four possible specs, they’ll be able to fill any role and be competitive right? Paladins can do three roles, they’ll be able to be competitive in each role, isn’t it the aim? I’m not saying to remove tanking possibility if the aim is not to be able to play main tank. Instead i’m saying if the aim is clearly to be an assist (for raids) then please make sure it’s competitive at it. I’m sure being an assist tank in raids makes you a perfectly fine tank for any common dungeon (or low tier raids) which is awesome. Maybe we don’t need to be main tanks.
When we buy a tool, we want it to work well as intended, we want a swiss army knife, we don’t want a cork screw sometimes allowing you to cut soft things like butter and being sloppy at it.
There. I hope I’m not the only one feeling this way.
Kind regards,
I was pretty sad they nearly dont talk about Warlocks. Affliction feels very Bad
The point I think is Seal Twisting, even when simplifyed, is very divisive. That itself is a problem and the talent should be changed. Also let’s not pretend most talents are just as divisive, because when they are, they are usually changed for that very reason.
It’s not the same as some people thinking “I’m not really interested in that talent” because with Seal Twisting quite a few people genuinely hate it.
It needs to go, and we need to get some kind of reactive button as the top tier. I think it should be something that let’s us use Exorcism on any target, but as some kind of reactive to Seals. When killing undead and having it available the class felt more full, but of course not excessive for what should be simpler vanilla class design.
Also Holy Strike is learnt far too early. It should be something to look forward to, because right now you pretty much get your full rotation before level ten which is a bit ridiculous.
Sadly not a single mention for ele shamans problems…
please buff dwarves
