The WoW: Forever Podcast: Episode 3 - Dive Into Dungeons With Devs ft. @Hammerdancegaming

Lets have a watch of this! But first a cup of coffee is required!

Hi All,

One thing I did want to make sure we mentioned that did NOT get mentioned in the podcast is that we are also fixing a bug with XP in dungeons.

In previous beta builds, the XP earned per kill was awarded based on the highest level person in the group. If you are running, say, Deadmines with 4 level 20s and 1 level 25, the amount of XP you get as a level 20 is extremely low per kill. With this fix, you should now receive XP based on your level relative to the mobs,as intended.

This fix combined with the 20% increase to base kills in dungeons should make it feel better and more even.

XP gain is not going to be what it was in era, but it should feel significantly better now. We understand that some of you want to dungeon cleave to 60, but this is another one of those things that has to pass muster with our core pillars. That playstyle being the optimal way to level does not pass that muster and we need to hold firm on these balance adjustments.

As it stands now after the adjustments, with perfect xp/hr play, the leveling rates in dungeons will be very close, if not equal to the speed you can level with optimal questing play. That illustrates how much better it was to level in dungeons in Era.

Maintaining a healthy balance here is vital to our “World is the Main Character” and “Nurture and Protect Social Experiences” pillars together. Once the scales tip and dungeons become the clear winner, it has a cascading effect on player behavior and we have to consider that impact holistically.

Very solid post.

Could change the amount of dungeons/runs you can do per level with a cooldown, just as it is present with a lockout at 5 per hour. As in you get lockout for each dungeon per level and week perhaps? as a raidlockout.

Just a suggestion to encourage less dungeon grinding.

Please keep making these.

Glad to see you took my advice of finally drawing your lines in the sand.

Even if I disagree with those lines, it’s good to see that Blizzard are making a game they believe to be good, rather than asking the players what good looks like.

Really nice to hear the devs say that there doesn’t have to be faction parity for everything. I’ve mostly played horde and I love the fact there is there entire other experience I can have when I play alliance.

Brilliant !

will you be keeping the “function” where a too high level player inside the dungeon results in 0 xp for kills??
like a level 28 in the deadmines, for the last week, resulted in 0 xp for the rest.

i kinda like the priciple of this, just as a anti-boosting measure. tho the actual level caps would have to be decided for each dungeon

You need to STOP this. Stop trying to force people into certain path. You don’t like it, we get it, but we want to play certain way as it was in Vanilla, TBC, WotLK. This is what classic is about, not the mythic “World is main character” nonsense that you sold on Blizcon. You can have those people who like your phrases applaude to you the whole day, but in the end you once again killing this game even before it launched. So once again stop FORCING us, let us have a choice and do not do things based on some mindless ppl opinion that “game should be harder, questing should be the only way to level up, et cetera et cetera”. If ppl want to be boosted - let them. If mage wants to AOE the whole dungeon or the whole fields of mobs in open world by himself - let him. If priest wants to solo ZF from level 48 - let him. Ban the bots but do not punish the players.

And BTW here’s the list that some people find bad on you end.

  1. Stupid API restrictions from retail. I get it about CombatLog, although it’s still stupid, but auras as well? Give us back normal API and fire the man who proposed that change for Midnight and so on. You actually created beautiful API, we liked it so much and now it’s useless.
  2. Those dungeon nerfs and dungeons quests nefs - needs to go too, give us back Vanilla values.
  3. Wotlk talents and spells but without actual supporting talents? How is priest without rupture should work with shields like you said in previous podcast about the classes? He will be OOM in fiest 30 second of the raid if not faster. Yet devs in that particular podcast said exactly those word: discipline is intended to have Wotlk style gameplay. I did not listen about other classes so I won’t mention other classes.
  4. And the beta itself. Notice how quickly it became the same as it is in the current Anniversary TBC: SM graveyard - ppl with appropiate classes (rogues, druids) are selling rare spawn loot. This means that people LIKE to do it, there’s in-game market for such things, same with the boosting or whatever will be profitable, ppl will find the way. As long as it is done with game currency it should not be a problem. Ban RTM but leave legit players alone.

Blizzard is killing a poor Russian bot farmer, now he can’t sell gold and boosts

I kinda wish they’d have gone more in detail with RMT and how harsh their stance will be in general.

It was kinda wishy-washy ‘oh there’ll be a notification with “are you sure you know where the gold is coming from?” - so you can see from there’. No - how can a regular player know where the gold is coming from when it comes to regular trades?

They should make a clear post on this where they iterate the different eventualities. If I sell something for market value (item/enchant/etc) why would I need to be sure where the gold comes from? it’s clearly a transaction and not a gold buying scheme.

In general, I really endorse them closing so many accounts, and I hope all the closures were permanent ones. But it baffles me that they banned more buyers than sellers, as there’s surely more than 1600 bots running around WoW Forever. Maybe hiring a few GMs (and not some defunct AI) might be a good idea, as these bots are absolutely visible to a thinking human being.

Nice Podcast tho!

I’m neither a bot farmer, booster or gold seller, just so you know I’m BattlegroundTargets, Carbonite, Broker_portals and several other addons developer and maintainer. And if that “changes” would do something about bots I would’ve applaud that but the thing is that it does not. Boosters may be, but since when boosting itself is a ToS violation?

Any chance we could see a change how loot quests works while questing in a group? i know you made changes so when grouping for loot quest it would spread the loot but this doesn’t really help for solo/team leveling you would still want to those quests by yourself because it would be much faster. and as i want to level with 4 friends with the current way XP looks we would run a dungeon once. and then go and quest solo until we all reach the next dungeon or do some quests that are only kill quests because doing any loot quests like the Hillsbrad skull quest is not worth it one not being worth it terms of fun nor xp. i would love that those gather quests from mobs would share it would also help solo players and give them a reason to group up for those quests. by nerfing dungeon grind it ruins a good reliable way to level in a group so it would be nice to see changes for those loot quests so questing as a 5 man would not be a slug.

This is just not true.

Taking entry level dungeons (RFC) as an example;

  • At 13-14 you get 3-3.5k exp per run on raw mob exp
  • At this level hitting lockout cap is not probable
  • So at best you’re expecting 17.5k xp/hr (Which you’re not getting as you’re not instance locking)
  • Raw mob grinding in an optimal area is 22-24k+ xp/hr at this level
  • “Optimal” Questing at this level is 23-25k+ xp/hr

Every dungeon beyond this just gets worse up till SM when the gap is partially closed, then it gets SIGNIFICANTLY worse again.

If you’re so worried about Mage Boosting and its effects, then just introduce the TBC dungeon changes, yes, 58-70 in TBC is still a very large problem, but 1-58 is completely dead for boosting. You have the tools to introduce participation punishments to players not actively partaking in dungeons (getting boosted), we already saw hints of this yet again in TBC (the system had issue’s, but itterating on it instead is much better than what’s happening now)

What about rppvp? Are blizzard paying any attention at all to the #1 most requested thing to be added to wow forever before launch as an option??
