This episode will finally make me decide if I stay on a PvE ruleset or change over to PvP! Lets see what this podcast contains!

The public is all of a flutter to know! What is the decision that Your Excellency has made?

WoW: Forever PvP Podcast TL;DR (if you don’t want to watch the 1 hour video)

1. World PvP and Outdoor Objectives

  • More reasons to fight in the open world: The developers want rare items, scarce resources, world bosses, and valuable rewards to encourage organic PvP.

  • World bosses: They’re considering how to make bosses accessible to more players without losing the competition for control that made original world bosses special.

  • Returning PvP events: Events like Battle for Ashenvale and Blood Moon, along with older objectives in Eastern Plaguelands and Silithus, could be revisited and improved.

  • Fun comes first: The developers want outdoor events to be enjoyable in their own right, rather than simply becoming a race to collect rewards.

  • Hidden discoveries: Rare items and secret acquisition methods are intentional ways to reward exploration and give players something to discover.

2. Open-World PvP and Camping

  • No general protection from ganking: Camping and level differences are considered part of the PvP ruleset. Players should expect the risks of playing on a PvP realm.

  • Exploits are different: Cheating and abusive exploits will be addressed. Temporary protection after resurrection may also be considered for structured PvP events.

  • Social gameplay matters: The developers believe guilds, local defense, calling friends, and organizing retaliation are part of what makes world PvP memorable.

3. Battleground Honor and Rewards

  • Less honor from Alterac Valley: AV is being made less rewarding for honor farming.

  • More viable alternatives: Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, and other battlegrounds are being adjusted to make them more worthwhile.

  • Different progression considerations: Honor gains and rank progression can be tuned separately, giving the developers more flexibility to balance rewards.

4. Battleground Matchmaking and Gameplay

  • Premade matchmaking: The goal is to match premades against premades, while solo players and small groups generally face similar opponents. The exact rules may be adjusted over time.

  • War games: The developers intend to support organized premade-versus-premade matches, potentially shortly after launch. These matches won’t award honor because of win-trading concerns.

  • Long matches: The team will monitor battleground length and consider timers or other changes if matches become excessively drawn out.

  • Exploits and unusual strategies: Creative play will be preserved where possible, but strategies involving inaccessible flag locations or other abusive mechanics may be fixed.

5. PvP Philosophy

  • No arena-focused balancing: The developers want to preserve Classic’s RPG-style PvP, where gear, consumables, professions, and creative builds matter.

  • Ongoing adjustments: Battleground rewards, matchmaking, and problematic strategies will be reviewed after launch based on actual gameplay and feedback.

  • Preserving the Classic experience: The aim is to fix genuinely problematic mechanics without removing the unpredictability and social interaction that define Vanilla PvP.

6. Community Tournament and Dueling Arena

  • Strong community interest: The community-run WoW: Forever tournament attracted over 6,000 sign-ups, far exceeding the organizers’ initial expectations. TimTheTatman also helped increase the prize pool.

  • Special Mount Hyjal arena: The developers brought forward a dedicated dueling arena for the tournament’s top 32 competitors on Day 2.

  • Potential future use: The team is interested in developing more spaces for dueling and community events, possibly including Dalaran’s Underbelly arena or special exhibitions.

  • Public dueling will remain important: Dedicated arenas shouldn’t replace the spontaneous duels players enjoy watching outside cities.

  • No tournament-specific class balancing: Class changes are being made for the broader game, not to benefit particular tournament competitors.

7. What’s Next?

  • The developers want to support more player-organized tournaments and events by providing the tools and spaces needed to make them happen.

  • World PvP objectives, battleground systems, matchmaking, and rewards will continue to evolve based on player behavior and feedback.

  • Several ideas remain under consideration, so not everything discussed should be treated as confirmed for launch.

Dear Blizzard, please don’t only balance PvP based on battlegrounds. The open world “fighting over scarcity like devilsaur leather” type situations are the main PvP scene in Classic. Much of it is 1v1 combat. You don’t have to make things perfectly balanced, but you must not degrade it. Things like the 20 minute Lay On Hands is destructive for wPvP balance, please do not make such changes just to make an ability like that usable more often in raids, that is an unimportant improvement (trivial, even) compared to the damage it causes to wPvP. Sharding is also something you have to treat very seriously. Be careful about what you do.

Thank you so much for your hard work. Best regards.

I knew you would appear with this comment after making your thread about the same topic weeks ago xD

Not sure you always need to reward people for activity, people will do things for fun.

revert pvp insignias. its not wotlk with 3v3 arenas, insignias should be class specific to help classes deal with their counters. why can a rogue dispel a wlocks death coil? why can a mage dispel a warriors intercept? why can someone dispel goblin rocket helm when u are trying to do 1v3 in world pvp?

save pvp before its doa or u can get it over with now and give rogues cos & warriors heroic leap.

sod 2.0 with everyone rnning around with same trinkets because its better than every other item in the game on a 5 min cd

I think it‘s amazing that they are creating/letting top 32 use the area in Hyjal as a duelling arena. I also really love that they are supporting player driven content as that‘s fudamentally what will need to happen to keep a „forever game“ alive.

At the same time, I hope they don‘t focus on something that will not really impact the ’actual’ game too much, since this is still all a beta and all that jazz. (Also I tend to agree that these sort of tournaments feel very iffy with how they basically create an area of toxicity (both with rmt and negativity) in the game where it‘s not needed).

Also kinda wish they had updates on the whole „new racials“ situation as name reservation will start in under 2 weeks (and if it‘s anything like the last time in classic) where we‘ll need to create the finished characters already (race/class included).

Aaanyhow! Ty for the podcast and keep it up! Really loving it so far

Merchant, Protector, Bandit please one of the devs or any1 else check thies out please i beg you thies would perfectly match azeroth and pvp and endless content

no rated pvp is an L, they could of completely redesigned it to suit their pillars

So you mentioned not wanting to force players into pvp content and not to make them feel like its something they are forced to do for gear progression. What about pvpers, why are we still forced to raid for gear? I mean no disrespect but the offpieces are pretty much non existant in pvp gear acquisition. Why not update the pvp vendors with those items aswell, tie them to ranks. I get that pvp is not the major focus of the game , but its not pure vanilla aswell, let people play what they enjoy.

No RP-PvP is a massive L.

Only people dancing around naked on top of some table in the Goldshire Inn deserve to have a home in Forever, not the people who want any resemblance of war and conflict RP in game that is fundamentally about war and conflict between two factions.

Will the Rank 14 system be in place at launch or open with raids later?

Can i grind Battleground Rep and buy rep gear at launch or will it be later?

No RPPVP is crazy

Yeah I’m refunding the Forever collection and I hope all the RP-PvP players do the same. Crazy work considering RP-PvP was always far more popular in Classic compared to regular RP. If Blizzard wants to say no to RP-PvPers, they can get a no right back.
