WoW Forever: RU-locale client has no ruleset access or name reservation; Cyrillic names fail on EN client

During early name reservation in WoW: Forever, I cannot access the EU rulesets when the game client language is set to Russian.

My results:

  • Russian: cannot connect.
  • English: can connect.
  • German: can connect.

This concerns the game client language, not the language used in chat or the alphabet used for character names.

Could Blizzard please investigate and clarify whether this is a bug or an intended restriction? Will players be able to access EU rulesets using the Russian client at launch?

Please allow players to use the existing Russian localization when playing in the European region.

Hello,

Players using the Russian (ruRU) game locale seem to be locked out of WoW: Forever on EU.
What we’re seeing:

  • RU client: cannot log in to any ruleset.

  • Name reservation: unavailable on the RU client, while EN and other locales have been reserving names for hours and filling up realms.

  • Workaround doesn’t work: reserving a Cyrillic name through the EN client returns an error.

Questions:

  1. Is this a known issue, and is there an ETA for the RU client?
  2. Will Cyrillic names be supported on EN-locale clients? Many of us purchased the premium package expecting equal access.

Please give us a status update.
Thanks.
Best regards.

i get it, and its not even that hard for me to play in english, but i really want russian localization and better treatment of the russian-speaking community :frowning: would be really sad if this is blizzards policy and they dont plan to change it. why would they even deliberately disable something that already exists and that blizzard spent money on translating and voice acting? it just makes me really sad to see this kind of treatment

The game is advertised as having full support for the Russian language. However, during the recent stress test—as well as today’s character name reservation phase—the Russian-language version (part of the European cluster) prevented users from accessing the EU servers.

In discussions within the Russian-speaking community, several key questions have arisen that require an official response:

1.Will the Russian-language version be fully available on the pan-European (EU) “Forever” servers on the official launch day?

2.Was its absence during the stress test and the name reservation phase due solely to technical limitations within the test build of the game?

3.Will the use of Cyrillic characters be supported in the in-game chat, and what are the rules for character naming (will Cyrillic nicknames be permitted, or will the use of the Latin alphabet be required)?

For many players, the availability of their native language is a decisive factor in ensuring an enjoyable gaming experience and committing to a subscription. We would greatly appreciate an official clarification regarding this situation.

Fully agree with the author and previous comments.

We paid for Epic editions expecting advertised Russian language support and a fair head start. Instead, we are locked out of EU servers using the RU client (just like during the stress test) and blocked from using Cyrillic names on the EN client.

This is a clear failure to deliver the purchased service. If the localization exists, why is it deliberately crippled on launch? We need a hotfix and a clear status update before November 4, not silence.

As a Jew who moved from Russia to Germany—and who doesn’t know Hebrew or German, and has poor English—I don’t want to face discrimination while playing in a language that is officially supported.

Is it really that difficult to give us a clear answer on whether the Russian client will work at launch or not? I’m willing to forgive the issues with the stress test and the name reservation, but I’d really appreciate some clarity on this.

The Russian-speaking community is awaiting a response; please look into our issue—this is the only place where we can potentially have any influence on the situation.

Agreed.

This is very important—not just for Nick,

but also for a comfortable gaming experience.

Because with the Russian language enabled, it’s simply impossible to get into the game.

Comrades, don’t hesitate to start threads in this section-we need to make ourselves heard.

Hello Blizzard team,

I am a long-time World of Warcraft player and a purchaser of the full WoW: Forever bundle. I am writing to report a serious issue affecting Russian-speaking players during Early Name Reservation on European servers.

I purchased the full bundle partly to gain early access and reserve my character names ahead of launch. However, the current situation prevents me from using this feature as intended.

I have reproduced the following issues:

1. Russian client — EU Rulesets unavailable

When launching the game with the Russian (ruRU) client and connecting to the European region, all Ruleset options (Normal, PvP and RP) are greyed out and cannot be selected. As a result, I cannot proceed to the server selection stage or reserve character names using my preferred language.

2. English client — Rulesets available, but Cyrillic names rejected

When switching the game client to English, the Rulesets become selectable. I can enter a server and create a character, but the client does not allow me to use Cyrillic characters in character names.

Consequently, neither option allows me to complete Early Name Reservation in the way I need: the Russian client blocks access to the EU Rulesets, while the English client prevents me from using Cyrillic character names.

3. The Russian client worked correctly during the North American beta

I participated in the WoW: Forever beta using the Russian client on North American servers, and everything worked correctly. The current problem appeared when Early Name Reservation became available on European servers.

This strongly suggests that the issue is related to the interaction between the Russian client locale and the European server environment, rather than a general incompatibility with the Russian client.

I have also found reports from other players describing the same or very similar problems on the official European WoW forums.

I understand that this could be a technical bug or a configuration issue. However, without an official explanation, players have no way of knowing whether Russian-language support on European servers is temporarily broken or subject to an intentional restriction.

If this is a technical issue, I urge Blizzard to investigate and resolve it as soon as possible. If it is an intentional restriction, I request a clear explanation of the policy behind it and its implications for Russian-speaking players.

I respectfully request that Blizzard:

  1. Investigate why the Russian client cannot access the European Rulesets during Early Name Reservation.

  2. Clarify whether Cyrillic character names are supported on European WoW: Forever servers and, if so, why they are rejected when using the English client.

  3. Confirm whether Russian-language clients will be fully supported on European servers at launch.

  4. Provide an official status update and, if this is a known issue, an estimated timeframe for a fix.

  5. Address both problems before Early Name Reservation ends on November 3, 2026, so that affected players have a fair opportunity to reserve their intended character names.

This is particularly important because Early Name Reservation is a time-limited feature, and character names are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Every day without a solution reduces the opportunity for affected players to secure their preferred names.

I purchased the full bundle in good faith and expected to be able to use the game’s Russian localization. I do not believe players should have to choose between accessing the European servers and using their preferred language and character names.

I would appreciate a substantive response from the WoW: Forever team or the relevant technical team, rather than a generic troubleshooting recommendation.

Thank you for your time and attention. I hope this issue can be clarified and resolved before launch.

Best regards,
A WoW: Forever player

NO CYRILLIC CHARACTER NAMES IN GAME. Is this intentional?

I fully support this. I paid a substantial sum, but in the end, I ran into the very same limitations that we encountered both during the stress test and during the nickname reservation phase.

Дилер сказал если не подрубите РУ язык, то он будет жаловаться в зеленоградскую прокуратуру

РУ язык один из ключевых факторов игры в текущую версию игры.

Please Add Russian Language Support!

I played this game a long time ago, but Forever reignited my desire to jump back in and get fully immersed in the game.

Imagine how surprised and disappointed I was to find out that Russian isn’t supported, even though a huge number of players speak Russian!

Please add Russian language support. The Russian-speaking community is large, and we want to enjoy the game in our native language too.

Please add Russian!

Русский язык очень важен, просьба включить возможность создания персонажей на Русском языке и возможность играть на Русском языке! Я хочу наслаждаться квестами, диалогами и всем остальным на своем родном языке.
