Today I had some fun making up a questline for implementing Fury Prot into Forever in my head and I wanted to share it with the forum. If you want to skip the lore and just see the “solution”, scroll to the bottom.
The Twin Brothers
You’ve made it to 60 on your warrior journey. In a remote part of Azeroth you come across the ghosts of two twin brothers. They tell you of how they were tasked with protecting their tribe from an approaching danger, but failed because they could’nt agree on how to defend them. The first brother wanted to defend the tribe from a position of strength, while the other wanted to face the danger head on. Seperated, the brothers failed and everyone died.
Longing for revenge, the ghosts offer you a deal: they’ll lend you their powers in exchange for the opportunity of one day getting their revenge…
Having auto-turnin installed, you instantly accept and the brothers tell you that in order to recieve their powers, you’ll need to pick up a flask from the nearby table and bring them to the only remaining blacksmith gifted in the art of Spirit Forging, but sadly for the brothers, you don’t really read quests.
Days pass. You suddenly notice an objective tucked away in a corner of Winterspring and decide to head over to it.
There is an old man with a yellow question mark hammering away at an anvil. You click him and out of nowhere the two ghosts you encountered the other day appear. The smith tells you that he if you provide him with a set of suitable weapons, he can fuse the brothers spirits into them creating a set of powerfull Spirit Weapons.
The smith then tells you the tale of such a set of weapons and the warrior who wielded them and how she fell in battle to an orc named Dal’Rend druing the first war. Surely the orc would’ve kept weapons of such quality.
You don’t really know who this Dal’rend is, but you remember reading that Dal’rend was part of your BIS list and that it dropped of some dude with a black hand in UBRS.
After multiple runs of UBRS, all full of people praising the classic team for reducing the time it took to complete the gauntlet, you have the weapons: Dal’rend’s Sacred Charge, and Dal’rend’s Tribal Defender.
You bring the weapons back to the old blacksmith, and the ghosts pop out of their bottle. The blacksmith takes the swords and begins hammering away while mumbling about spirits and weapons and what not. But your mind is elsewhere. You don’t really notice the text on your screen or the ghosts dissappearing.
If the Dal’rend swords are on your BIS list.. and this guy is improving them… surely you’ll do top damooge. You’ll… parse! Or whatever it is your guildies say.
A yellow question mark.
You click it.
Auto-turnin instantly accepts.
Something is added to your bags.
You press B…
Twin Blade of the Guardian and Twin Blade of the Charger. One has crit, the other has Defense? … and ARMOR!?
The set bonus reads: While in Defensive Stance: Increases stamina by 20%, Bloodthirst has increased threat and damage done and taken is further reduced by 10%. Also, your Whirlwind ability is now useable in Defensive Stance.
Aaah maaaan, these are for tanking!
Atleast Blizzard removed the “while a shield is equipped” part of Defiance, Master of Defense no longer requires Shield Mastery and Toughness is back in the first row! Guess I’ll try tanking as Fury.
But wait… there’s another quest? Upgrade the weapons? Quel’serrar and Nightmare Blade?
The end.
If you read all of it, thank you!
If you scrolled, here’s the short version
Set weapons with a set bonus that reduces damage done and taken in some way and increases threat and stamina. I also threw in whirlwind in defensive stance for some extra spice.
The changes to fury could actually make for a really interesting dual wielding tank. Some healing that scales with healthpool, you no longer need to be crit to proc Enrage so defense cap is nice, death wish on pull and so much more. All while staying true to the original Fury Prot.
Disclaimer, I don’t want fury prot to replace deep prot (or any other tanks for that matter) and the numbers provided in the text are just for effect. But I like the idea and I wanted to share. Comment your thoughts!
