Housing for Forever

player housing = no shot.
guild hall = could be interesting.

you don’t want to invite the “garrison” problem into the game.
mark my words on this, this is unironically a “you think you do, but you don’t” kind of thing.

by token of having housing (instanced content) you are removing players from the open world and putting them in their own little pocket dimension.

this harms the social aspect of the game and makes the world feel empty.

besides, i will not accept a housing decoration as a reward for a quest, regardless of how easy it is.

not one. single. quest.

guild halls (guild housing) could be neat if it had a few unique features, like:

the coveted duel arena where players (in your guild) can reset cooldowns repeatedly and fight each other.
maybe you have a butler-type npc that gives away free water and food (which despawns from your bags when you exit guild hall)

maybe a couple of training dummies (one that scales to your current level up to 60, 1 that represents a lvl 63 boss, and one that represents a skull level raid boss)

maybe you have a trophy room with the heads of the raid bosses your guild killed.

maybe you can pay a significant sum of gold to get a black anvil, alchemy table or a moonwell inside there.
(or maybe we just add an alchemy table for undercity so horde gets some of these things in-house, like alliance gets black anvil and moonwell in stormwind/ironforge).

maybe you get a special pet slot, allowing a critter-type pet (that the GM can name) to roam around and do random pet stuff inside the hall.

a guild-bank tab somewhere in there because why not, this is still available at the normal bank.

maybe you got a big board to fill in what your guild is about (separate from the guild message of the day) where the GM/Officers can put i.e loot rules, class loot priorities, what content you focus on, what specs you are expected to have available going into a raid/pvp, what consumables/gear you are expected to have for a given raid, a list of materials your guild are looking to stack up (perhaps for a reward for every item courtesy of the guild bank), what classes/specs you are looking to recruit, and such and so on.

for decoration; literally all you get is wall banners draped in your guild tabard colors - perhaps a flag if we are feeling generous.
oh, and a long table with chairs (say 40ish chairs) and some cosmetic food/drinks, that’d be neat.

most importantly: No Auction house, no basic crafting stations, no personal bank, no class trainers, no “turn-in-all-quests” NPC that allows you to turn in whatever quests you have completed, no decoration bloat.

the point is: guild hall should be a designated hang-out area for guild meetings, guild-related progression/info, or some casual duels - not a hub for profession efficiency, AH activity, class training and all those things that you should be doing in the open world and thus populate it with life.

there should never be an incentive for a guild to hunker down in their guild hall and never go outside for anything, because then we get the infamous garrison problem.

oh, and one last thing: the difference between player housing and guild halls, is that the social element of the game is preserved inside a guild hall (because you can socialize with your guild) whereas a players house is… a single player sims game where you actively need to invite people to your group to let them inside.
