I know im going to get hate for this, but here goes:
-- soul link needs a nerf , it should be moved at the level of capstone ability for the power that it gives. The big damage reduction makes it a pvp ability through and through.
--molten skin is really good for warlock and they should have it. However, make it a tier 4/5 talent even if you dont make soul link capstone.
The above are asked for the health of pvp open world which is huge part of wow forever.
On the off chance that people say “what about the pve people playing on pve servers”, sure go on, tell me how is 30% damage reduction and not lower, essential, on a spec that focuses on pets having agro and doing the damage.
Thanks, hate all you want, if you want. I suggest peace
(Disclaimer: this post does not indicate any intention of not nerfing other problematic issues of other classes)
It will help you not die while raiding if you need to Life Tap and big raid damage comes just after.
It will help you not die while in a group if you need to Life Tap and big group damage comes just after.
It will help you not die while DOT farming if your pet cannot keep agro.
As for the rest, meh.
Warlocks have never been particularly strong in PvP except for 1v1.
If you are afraid of dying in the open world from a Warlock just bring a buddy.
Or you know, gank em when they are low resources after killing a few mobs.
Not like open world PvP is ever a fair fight.
If yours are, then you are just doing it wrong.
Or just go play on a PvE server.
Most PvP will be BGs by the time the first 2 months have passed, even on PvP servers.
Also for the health of the class over all. I was going to play warlock in forever but I’m not now, because with soul link where it is it will be mandatory for any sort of PvP. Forever is going to be an SL/SL fest and even worse than tbc where the damage reduction is 20% . Not to mention in forever dots can crit and affliction has as bit better talents. It should be a capstone talent to stop it being a mandatory pick.
At the very least, soul link should be reduced from 30% damage reduction to 20%, as it was nerfed to in TBC.
Ye sure open world you can exploit some situations, even with a buddy. Im not worried personally for locks, I will lvl up as a duo with my bro.
Its for the health of the game , plus for locks. Sure you can pick another spec in pvp. But it can feel bad when it feels mandatory to be sl sl because its the superior pvp spec.
As for the pet aggro part, you have demonic brand so , its less of an issue I figure.
SL/SL and spirest will dominate pvp. lock is tanky and spriest just pumps insane dmg. Other classes might aswell not exsist, but it is what it is better get used to it
Well yes, for example we have locks with 50% reduced dmg taken in magic. So lets say we have 60lvl elemental shaman casting max rank chain lightning with curse of tongues up to a lock like 3.5s cast for 119-133 dmg normaly but with 50% reduction that 3.5s cast hits 60 dmg at lvl 60. I think my auto attack hits more at lvl 5
I get your example. Chain lightning is not what it was in classic though. They reduced its damage a lot and made it only function like an aoe. But ye, warlock always was a counter to ele shaman with the curse of tongues. Now it will be even crazier.
only caster that might win vs lock is spriest because they got passive healing and their dots and spells do almost normal vanilla base dmg when other casters got 50-70% nerfs to base dmg. So vs lock other caster should just alt f4 insta
with fear spam and drain life and felhunter dispel of the dots on the lock. I still think it would be really hard for shadow priest since he has mana issues.
Demonic Brand is great, don’t get me wrong.
But its really not enough to keep agro while dotting 3-5 mobs.
It does help though.
And depends a bit on how you do the rotation.
If you spam a few Searing Pains between DoTs then it will keep agro better for sure.
Might be ease to keep track of if you use weakaura or similar, but not everyone is using timers to know when those attacks happen.
Also, dunno if they changed it, but not all big cleaves where always on the same timers every time. Been a while, but I believe there are big moves that have a cd that does not always instantly get used when its over. Might be wrong though.
But that wasn’t the original point OP made either way.
OP said give a reason and I gave a few.
Ye I love demonic brand as well.. And it fits the fantasy of the demon centric build.
So while I do agree with you that in the scenario of multidoting and farming on your own in this particular way, you could use soul link. I don’t think this justifies it being that strong in making the lock that tanky. Or it being that accesible for the power it offers.
The only thing I agree with you on is trying to make Molten Skin a Destruction-only defensive, thus making it deeper and out of reach for other specs, but also stronger than what it is now. That would give Destruction locks a chance to bring incinerate in PvP.
