Language and Social Settings

It’s always a good idea to go over your settings in-game when you first get started. Today, we’d like to suggest that players take a close look at these settings in particular.

If any of them are not defaulted to your preferred language, you can change them and log out and back in to improve your in-game experience.

Thank you!

Thats cool and all, but how about adressing issues with launch?

No I can’t, because I want to play in Chinese and play with English. Which I can’t do. So thanks

My game defaulted “Preferred Online Language” to French, and after changing to English I am layered completely alone! Tried relaunching the game and making a new character, and when I finally met another player, they had also changed to English and we’re stuck on an almost completely empty layer.

Please fix it so English is the default for Europe! Primarily because it is the default language, but it’s extremely disheartening to be locked to playing completely alone at launch, since there’s a 24h cooldown to change it!

Its failing many people DC fix pleas

Healthy bump as I head to bed. Please look into this!

Edit: Or at least temporarily reduce the cooldown until its fixed. Being forced to play in an empty world for 24h at launch sucks BAD

i did this, and everyone on my layer is speaking spanish?

Can you, please get rid of that 24h cooldown and make it a bit less “destructive” like 8 hours or something?

its a bug, selecting english will match you with spanish players on empty shards… avoid changing right now because you cant change back for 24h…

So THAT’S WHY all the bloody rulesets look empty! Jesus! It was jampacked in Teldrassil, as soon as I changed it from French to English (like, what the heck?!) every single ruleset is empty. Also, what ‘stable genius’ thought French is somehow a European default language/region?

Giving this another “DEFINITELY check” bump. I also had my default set to French for unknown reasons. Client English, Location Germany.

Yep. Bumping too. I was on the French speaking default too.

You can’t just select from French to English (for example)

you need to hit APPLY as well

or it will swap back.

Took me a while to realise there was an apply button because I was just searching in settings for “Language” and that doesn’t show the apply button.

I confirmed via General chat that all English-speaking people were defaulted to French language… I hope it’s fixed somehow, because we French-speaking ppl are now bundled in with everyone else and it’s quite bad for social interactions…

Yeah, i wouldn’t want to speak to frenchmen aswell.

We’d love to be able to select a voice in one language and the text in another, like for example: text in English and voice in Spanish.

I’ve downloaded the spanish voice pack from Battle-net but I cant use it ingame with my texts in English.

I’ve experienced an issue here

I’m from Austria, so my preferred language is German. I noticed that my in-game language preference was set to French, which hardly anyone speaks where I’m from. I changed it to German, but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference, even after restarting the game.

I still mostly encounter English-speaking players and rarely come across anyone speaking German.

Personally, I don’t mind communicating in English, but I’d definitely prefer to play with more German-speaking players, especially on an RP server. I imagine this could be an even bigger issue for players who aren’t comfortable speaking English.

Just wanted to share my experience in case it helps you track down the issue!

Edit for clarification: I hit apply, the preference was saved (still German after the restart of the game) but I still couldn’t see German speaking players.

It seems like the only reliable way to actually permanently fix this is either:

Change the Settings and Close the Game trough the Menu (Exit Game) so it saves

Or modify the config.ini within the wow folder.

Both work, but you need to close the game the correct way to overwrite this setting.

There’s a 99.9% chance that all Germans are on baguette locale

just came here to say it’s solved. Just logged in and the players around me chatting in my language. Thanks Blizzard, for such a quick fix.
