Title. You did the same crap with seasons of discovery. There is nothing “classic” about overcrowding layers. In classic people could choose to play in lower population servers, here you’re forcing everyone to play a new version of wow that is just Whack-a-Mole. There is nothing fun about this, and it ruins any kind of immersion on top of it. Not to mention this crap completely ruins the point of layers which is FOR THIS EXACT SITUATION NOT TO HAPPEN.
You don’t need to do this cheap trick of “look how many players we have!!”. holy crap stop with this cheap gimmick, it’s ridiculous
Otherwise yeah, amazing job! you managed to piss people off on the first few minutes of logging in on a fresh character for no reason at all, i mean who doesn’t love having to wait to kill level 1 wolves!
EDIT:
Conclusion:
If you set things up in a way that you NEED to have 2-4s spawns then this isn’t Classic/Vanilla no matter if you put a plus or “forever” at the end.
I found no issues, logged in within 10 minutes of launch, and was surprised. It was busy, sure, but not overly so; I managed to quest through the first few levels without issue and didn’t feel rushed by it all. I levelled three toons through the first levels in different starting zones, all the same.
And this is precisely why I’m waiting an entire month before playing.
But what else can people expect when logging in to a super-hyped new game on launch day? Of course it’s going to be ridiculous.
I did launch the game early this morning, around 5:00am just to ensure it ran OK and I could create a character. Shadowglen was absolutely ram packed, even on the RP ruleset, and people were actually queuing to kill the Young Nightsabers and Young Thistleboars. Looked like there were at least a hundred people standing around if not more.
New graphics look nice though, and I could get everything up to Ultra without any drop in framerate.
Hopefully by mid-December things should have settled down a bit. Until then I’m staying on nice, quiet Classic Era.
The problem is it does not have to be ridiculous. it is ridiculous by DESIGN. They could EASILY set the maximum layer population to half or 25%. The layer tech is EXACTLY made to resolve this issue. They CHOSE to have players be overcrowded, ruining the gameplay for a “launch experience”.
This does not seem to work, at least in the starter area. I even set it to “European Portuguese” did nothing. And it’s also ridiculous they launched with the default being French
Some areas are hugely overpopulated others are dead even though /who shows 50+ people in the area.
Half way through beta and they had it pretty much perfect then towards the end they altered something and this is the mess that occured. They obviously havn’t manged to fix it.
Tbh if they made the layers tiny while right at the start in the spawn point would of felt better. But as soon as your past it it’d of felt awful.
Running around brill, I had no issues no over crowding was getting mobs fine. And that’s because the large quantities of quests & larger areas mean people spread out massively.
The first 4 quests were harder to get some but I don’t rly get why your looking for a classic+ experience if your trying to delete a major factor which created classic
Tagging mobs was easy just stand on a spawn and make a macro to attack auto and target the mobs. I had zero problems. I did however have a problem when i got to level 4ish that i hardly seen anyone again the worlds were dead. Stormwind had 4 people in it at 4am this morning
I had pretty much the same experience until later.
Starting area was mad (expected) then out into Tirisfal and it was just nice, busy but not overly so, same in Brill busy but no too crowded.
Then i went towards Undercity and came back and i was in a dead layer, it felt horrible, nobody there and so quiet. It was around 2.30 am so i thought sod it and logged off.
When you get put into a dead layer it’s just not nice and the game feels dead.
Ah yes having to macro to hit things when there’s no reason for places to be overcrowded in the first place.
Because this game, specially classic, was never made for these respawn times nor for having these many people in one spot. They don’t do it in retail (where they properly setup layer sizes and you dont see this) and they didn’t do it in classic.. how you ask? By having separate servers, that people could pick.
Imagine defending having the game in this absurd state with mobs respawning every 1-2s so you can have a pointless amount of people around you and hurt the immersion (FOR NO REASON) with the ground littered with mobs
It has yet another glaring problem with the mobs constantly respawning inside caves, where this is absolutely not supposed to happen and forces you to keep moving all the time, and god forbid you happen to be in an “unpopular” cave, you’re out of luck, just can’t do it.
This is garbage, it’s embarassing they launched the game in this state.
They know about it, they’ve acknowledged it on the US forums.
This is not the same problem, what you’re describing is a layer sync problem, the problem of moving players around. The problem I’m point to is the setting they have put in place for the amount of players they want in a layer. This EASILY fixable, and is the EXACT same issue that was present in seasons of discovery.
