WoW Forever EU PvP: can't create Horde after deleting all Alliance characters

Well I am faction locked now! All my guilds are Horde on PVP EU and I cant create an Charackter as it says I can’t have a both faction on a PvP Realm. How can I delete an unvisible character which does not even show up in the web interface or game to play Horde!?!? I can’t play the game!! Help! Please!

Hey Cherul,

If you don’t have any Alliance character at the moment, could you try switching rulesets, and then go back to the PvP ruleset please?

Hey Yryadorne<3,

no I have no chars on any realm, but my nick is taken and I can create alliance on pvp anywhere but no hordechar. I already tried to delete my cache and WTF folder and repaired the game. The is nowhere anyhow visible and blocks me in creating a horde char. Thanks for reaching out! I hope you can help. All my friends are leveling right now and I took a day off :frowning:

I have no characters left on EU PvP, but I still can’t create a Horde character.

What happened

  • During name reservation I created a few level 1 Alliance characters on the PvP ruleset.
  • Today I deleted all of them so I could join my friends on Horde.

Current state

  • My PvP character list is empty.
  • The restore button says “No deleted characters to restore on this realm.”
  • Creating any Horde character fails with:

You cannot have both a Horde and an Alliance character on the same PvP realm

What I’ve tried

  • Switching to another ruleset and back to PvP (as suggested by a Blizzard rep in this thread)
  • Restarting the game
  • Clearing the cache

Same error every time.

My support ticket only got a generic reply about undeleting characters and names, which doesn’t cover this. It looks like the server still counts my deleted Alliance characters against the account.

At least one other player on EU PvP has the exact same problem (Cherul, in the thread linked above). Could this be passed on as a bug? Happy to give any details that would help. Thanks!

Same problem here as Cherul: EU PvP, all my Alliance characters are deleted, the character list and restore list are both empty, and Horde creation still fails with “You cannot have both a Horde and an Alliance character on the same PvP realm”. Switching rulesets and back didn’t help.

Full details in my post: WoW Forever EU PvP: can’t create Horde after deleting all Alliance characters

No that’s not the case. It says " You can’t have characters of both factions on the same realm" but I don’t have any characters at all!

This already appeared right away at release. I logged with all my friends and it my namelocked char was invisibly blocking the char creation. The namelocked character I created during the reservation was and is not visible from the start, but as it was created as allianc during the reservation it blocks me now from creating Horde and it’s not possible to delete it as it is not visible on my charselectionframe

@Yryadorne thanks, but this isn’t the population lock. There are two different errors:

  • Population lock: “This faction is currently unavailable on this ruleset due to population imbalance.” Neither of us gets this one.
  • What we get: “You cannot have both a Horde and an Alliance character on the same PvP realm.” This is the one-faction-per-account rule, and both of us have zero characters on the account.

So the server still counts an Alliance character on our accounts that we can’t see or delete.

Update (14:30): the forum won’t let me post more replies in this topic, so adding this here.

  • I’ve been trying to create a Horde character on and off since around 05:00, so more than 9 hours.
  • Every single attempt gives “You cannot have both a Horde and an Alliance character on the same PvP realm”.
  • I have never once seen the population imbalance message.
  • Meanwhile, players on Discord have been reporting all day that they managed to create Horde characters on EU PvP when it opened up.

So it doesn’t look like I’m just hitting the lock.

Ok, let’s restart here and avoid derailing someone else’s post. :folded_hands:

Cherul, you currently have an Alliance character on the PvP ruleset. I do see that it was created recently however, and I imagine that you had the error message when you had no active character.

Falk, it may simply be an issue with the faction lock, but you’re getting the wrong error message because you recently had Alliance characters. We’ll look into it. Please do try again later, if you’re able to create a Horde character at some point, then it may confirm that it was because of the lock.

Yes , exactly. The Errormessage occured before I created this one. I recently created a new Alliance one in hope when i woudl delete it i d be able to create a Horde char but it doesnt work. Can you somehow check whether there is my Nameblocked char anywhere and delete it? Name was Cherul Lefeu. Thank you so much for taking the time!

We’re not able to restore or delete characters in WoW Forever, I’m afraid. The character restoration system works, but only for characters Lv10 or above.

You’re probably getting the wrong error message, and so the Alliance characters that you created and deleted recently don’t really affect the real issue, which is the automatic and temporary lock on Horde characters.

is there a side where i can watch out for those fraction locks ? cause i reserved a name and i dont want to lose it cause i cant create a character in time

Yeah there seems to be another issue after character deletion that blocks you from creating a character of the opposite faction on the same server, despite not having any characters left on the server, a seperate issue from the faction lock. Please fix :folded_hands:

So what am i supposed to do now? If it was the wrong error message ( like Horde is not available due to balance) i should ve been able to create a char already - which was not the case. I was one of the first to login in at realease. All my friends after me were able to create a horde char. So it must be a glitch in the server where my namelocked charackter still is a dead file i am not able to see in the charselection screen. I mean my namelocked charackters name is also taken so the char somehow still exists on the server - which blocks me from creating a Horde char.

More evidence: at 15:33 today, players on the WoW Forever Discord reported that Horde creation on EU PvP had just opened. I tried straight away and kept retrying for several minutes after that.

  • Every attempt: “You cannot have both a Horde and an Alliance character on the same PvP realm”
  • Still never the population imbalance message

So even while Horde was open for others, my account was blocked by the both-factions rule, not the population lock.

Thank you, Falk.

The lock for faction imbalance can change pretty quickly. We’ve tried recreating the issue and got mixed results (we were able to create Horde characters, and then hit the lock within a few minutes), but we did eventually reproduce the issue you’ve described at some point.

I would encourage you to try again regardless, and hopefully the game lets you create a character at some point.

That being said, we’re still investigating this issue to see what the exact problem is. We’ll update you when we know more. :folded_hands:

Really appreciate it Yryadorne, you’re a legend, and great to hear you managed to reproduce it.

I’ll keep trying the same way I’ve tried for the past 10 hours and will post here if I manage to create a character.

so bascially we are locked until next week from playing ? is the vibe i am getting from this message. what about you? still never expected a GM that cares for us. awesome GM . Add so we can inform each other if anyone of us finds a solution, please . Kingsfall#21781

I assume its a migration problem. When servers went live our charackters were not transfered properly and our client cant fetch the data - but the server got them . Maybe for our charackters specifically you (Blizz) need to reload the databatch manually

Quick update: still blocked.

Since my last post I’ve made about 1,000 more attempts, and every one gave the same “You cannot have both a Horde and an Alliance character on the same PvP realm” error. In that time, several people on the WoW Forever Discord reported creating Horde characters on the EU PvP realm.

In case it helps the investigation, the client log (_forever_\Logs\Connection.log) shows the server sending the same response for every attempt:

Character create response received result="(enum)29"

That’s 1,417 attempts between 14:21 and 16:01 alone, all result 29 and never a different one.

Long shot question, but nothing to lose at this point… while this is being looked into, could we start on the PvP RP realm and get a free character transfer to the PvP realm once it’s fixed?

We’d love to start playing rather than wait, but we don’t want to end up stuck on a different realm from our friends.

Thanks again for all the help, it’s really weird how there’s not more people reporting this issue.

Edit: two new things that might help:

  1. Around 17:39, Kingsfall’s deleted name-reservation character suddenly reappeared in his character list. He deleted it again, and the error changed to the normal faction balance message. So it looks like characters deleted before or around launch can still exist on the server and cause this block. Mine still hasn’t reappeared.

  2. My client’s local data still has the IDs of the three name-reservation characters I deleted this morning around 05:06. All three were on realm 6856 (the pre-launch realm), while the PvP ruleset now connects to realm 6948:

  • Player-6856-00163904
  • Player-6856-00144D2A
  • Player-6856-001408B2 (the oldest, created 27 Oct)

If one of these still exists on your side, that’s probably what’s blocking me, like Kingsfall’s character.

Update: I found a workaround! I created a new Alliance character on the PvP realm and deleted it again. After that, the “You cannot have both a Horde and an Alliance character” error was gone and I now get the normal faction balance message instead.

My client log confirms it: every attempt before returned result 29, while the new Alliance character returned 24 (created). So deleting characters from before launch seems to leave the account flagged as Alliance on the realm, and creating and deleting a fresh character clears it.

Hopefully this helps anyone else stuck with the same issue.

I’m experiencing a similar issue on EU PvP. I deleted my Alliance Rogue to switch to Horde, but I’m still unable to create a Horde character.

I’ve already tried creating and deleting a fresh Alliance character, switching rulesets, and restarting the client. Unfortunately, none of these resolved it.

I inspected my client logs and found:

  • All 8 character-list responses returned zero active characters.

  • 21 failed character creation attempts, returning codes 48 and 63 (9 and 12 respectively).

  • No 29 responses, unlike the original report.

  • My EU PvP realm ID is 6950, whereas the original report mentions 6948.

  • Client version: 1.60.1 (build 70399).

I don’t know what response codes 48 and 63 represent, but perhaps these details can help identify whether this is the same underlying issue.

Edit:

One additional detail: My deleted Alliance Rogue was above level 10 and still appears in the Character Restoration interface. Could restorable characters be incorrectly counted toward the PvP faction restriction? My active character list is empty, but I’m still blocked from creating Horde characters.
