I’m still of the conspiratorial mind that Dragonflight is an exercise in seeing how little effort Blizzard can get away with, whilst still maintaining their core audience.
Reduce expenses, maximize profits.
Because if Dragonflight is meant to emphasize the big 3 – Dungeons, Raids, Arenas – then Blizzard should have devoted extra resources to make them the best they’ve ever been.
Especially considering that Blizzard have clearly devoted less resources to everything else.
Yet looking at those big 3 – Dungeons, Raids, Arenas – then they all appear as if Blizzard have also devoted less resources there.
You get 8 Dungeons.
But only 3 have new interior layout. The Azure Vault. Halls of Infusion. Neltharus.
The remaining 4 utilize existing zone layout like Scenarios in Mists of Pandaria did. Ruby Life Pools. Brackenhide Hollow. The Nokhud Offensive. Algeth’ar Academy.
And then Uldaman is a retouch of its original layout.
So you get 8 new Dungeons, but not really. It’s more like 3½.
So yeah, 8 scuffed dungeons is clearly too little when Dungeons are supposed to be one of the main attractions of the expansion.
There’s a new Mega Dungeon for summer during Season 2, which will then probably be split into two and become part of the Mythic+ Dungeon rotation in Season 3 by the end of the year.
But as I said, I think the strategy is to get the most out of the least possible.
So the plan is probably to start off with the fewest amount of Dungeons, use a Mega Dungeon design as a way to later split one Dungeon into two, and then lengthen the replay value of Mythic+ by rotating old Dungeons into the Season mix.
Blizzard are rationing their resources.
