A fair peace after BFA

Nice post Maglór, congratulations, for keeping it polite and with a high amount of replies as well.

Before I address your post, I have a couple of ideas that undermine any “fair” peace treaty:

• From what I have read on forums, what has been lost by the Alliance to the Horde, during Cataclism expansion was never given back, after SoO in MoP. Am i right ?
  If that’s the case, I believe while the Forsakend and Night Elves will have their capitals back, the same situation of Cataclism will prevail.
  Alliance gets to keep the High Moral ground, the Horde gets to keep military gains.
  Varians was the badass we know and he didn’t dismantle the Horde.
  Anduin is softer, there’s no reason to not belive, he will make concessions as his father did and probably more.
• I call this theory “The seeds of Hatred”.
  When I think, when did BfA realy started: It was the moment Varian and Vol’Jin fell at the Broken Shore.
  Remember the agreement of non agression was, only held because both respected the agreement in WoD, that was not the case when Sylvanas became Warchief in Legion.
  What was lost by the alliance in BfA will be a reminder of why they are having a new theoretically conflict in 2022.

Will have a new expansion where we band together to fight a greater menace in 2020 as in 2016 with Legion, and:

I will be hanged for this by my Horde colleagues…
Here it goes I believe Anduin will be fair so anything he and the new leader of the Horde decides is fine by me.
Just end this conflict, which I grew sick of evey day.

Unfortunatelly there’s the other part of player base that wants peace.
Will probably have a expansion similar to legion and only after that war again.
After all the setting, needs to be rebuild, before everyone destroys everything again.
I mean look at the only thing our character knows what to do: destroy and kill.

And since this is my personal and subjective worst case scenario I am leaning towards Option number 1. Never ending war until someone runs out of people and resources. And that was my 2 cents-

It’s ActivisionBlizzard who determines how many soldiers/resourses each faction has.
I believe if they wanted: Horde and Alliance would always come out with resources all the time, from some “magical source”.
Look at how much was lost in Legion in the offensive against Gul’Dan, by Varian and Vol’Jin, yet here we are again with thousands of soldiers, and the Kul Tirans and the Zandalari are there to suplies with more resourses.

And if the Alliance doesn’t get the justice of actually winning then it’ll never happen. If every Alliance victory comes off as hollow at best then it will undermine the peace between both factions, both story wise and player wise

And this is why will have another war expansion. Everything will be set as a detonator after BfA ends.

A peace that doesn’t disband one or both factions makes no sense to me whatsoever. The Alliance shouldn’t trust the Horde to keep any peace, since they repeatedly blew chances to do so, and the Horde doesn’t trust the Alliance to keep the peace, whether they should or not.

So any territory changing hand should be something the peoples that are involved should talk about themselves, or at least agree about who should judge this dispute. Without the military backing of their own world-spanning military block.

As long as the factions are still around, I don’t want peace. Just go back to a slow-moving conflict with no important wins and losses, for the next 10 years or so. Or go the “mutually assured destruction”-route and make it a cold war, with proxy wars all around.

Something I’ve identified is that the last expansion tends to have very little exposure in the current expansion.

Mists of Pandaria was almost entirely irrelevant to Warlords of Draenor. Not a Pandaren in sight, not a single reference to that old Horde-Alliance war, hardly a monk around at all. Then suddenly, around Legion, we start getting a bunch of references to the expansion, reminders that it exists again and even chances to visit Pandaria again.
Warlords of Draenor was absolutely not spoken of, when it comes to Legion. It was a reason for Gul’dan to be back and that was it. Not a peep about orcs from another dimension at all. Then with Battle for Azeroth, suddenly it’s no longer taboo to mention the expansion and in fact, we get an entire allied race based off of the expansion, to the chagrin of a lot of people.
As for Legion, well. What evidence do we have that Azeroth was wracked with a horrible demonic invasion only a year ago, in the setting? None at all, aside from a sword sticking out of Silithus, and that’s only relevant because of what it’s doing to the planet right now. The ramifications of the Legion expansion are horribly absent from Battle for Azeroth, but I’ll bet we’ll get a look back at them in the next expansion.

So this leads me to believe that in the next expansion, Battle for Azeroth will be absolutely ignored and its existence shunned, only for the expansion to pop its head back up again in the expansion after that. Perhaps tensions left over from the Blood War will boil over again, perhaps there will be a brief moment of Zandalari or Kul Tiran relevancy again, who knows.

All I can say is that Blizzard seems to hate mentioning the last expansion in the current expansion.

BfA will have continuity, not the peace talks, but what was left unchecked in the conflict and this will be the reason for a new war expansion in 2022 or 2024.
Probably will also have: players moaning about World of “Peacecraft” in 2020 as they did in Legion in 2016-2018.
So no.
I do not belive the faction war is over, not even by a mile.

Blizzard dismantling both factions as a mechanic is probably healthier for the story-telling in the long run tbh.

I would call it a fouls dream, but I am entitled to dream.
