A lack of motivation regarding RP

It’s a snowball effect.

We will see if AD RP is still around at the end of this expansion. It may actually die this time.

people crying out about the death of wow/the death of rp always seemed a bit silly to me but at long last it finally looks like this might be it if blizzbo doesn’t improve

Just wait until Danuser demands that the line “No King rules forever.” gets removed for vague reasons.

Only if we admit defeat, gamer!

I mean personally for me, I’m running a campaign at the end of this month with at least 100 people signed up - and it would have been more, if a few people didn’t have clashing commitments! So there is still an audience around invested in playing pretend in this game, we just need to keep them together through the rough times ahead.

I understand that a lot of people are quitting right now, and it can be really demoralising when you log into the Valley of Honour at what should be “peak RP hours” only to find it totally deserted - but my hope is that, if those of us who are just too darn stubborn to quit press on, keep generating content, it’ll give folks something to stick around for. Or, if/when WOW does turn a corner, it’ll give any returning players something to come back to.

I know I’m just repeating what a lot of people have already said; but the best thing we can do now is keep churning away at our own stuff, and let the official storyline dangle for now. Hopefully, the next expansion will be better; but RP will only die out if we let it.

WoW is still by far the most active MMO-related RP scene I’ve seen, tbh.

People like Kaitilynn and plenty of others are grabbing the RP banners and making sure there’s always something to look forward to. If there is one thing that can keep roleplay going its those Needle-movers among roleplayers that keep taking initiative and arent afraid of hosting something out of the narrative norm.

Perhaps spacefaring was the wrong word lmao – inter-cosmic realm shifters then. Don’t worry, you guys are one of my favourite races! (Unless you were sad about the 500IQ 7th dimensional beings)

I think BFA played a lot into that, with faction spirit riled up to heights not seen in a long time.
My personal gripe with “neutral” rp is when you see the other factions races in your own factions settlements, especially capital cities.

For me it’s less about how -I- feel (like you, I essentially ignore SL as an expansion) and more about those around me.

I love my guild. I really feel like I have found my place, and I am fully committed.

But all around me, people are quitting. The lore shenanigans is too much for them, some others quit because they dislike the gameplay and RP alone is not enough to justify their sub.

And that is why my RP is starting to hurt too. I love what I got going on with the hardliners who stay but I miss so many people who quit.

I don’t think so. It’s not doing great maybe but there’s a lot of momentum to lose before things come to a halt entirely. Even if most of the realm quits there will be people around RPing still.

There is still RP holdouts on servers other than AD so no, I don’t think AD RP could ever truly die. It can diminish but there will always be at least some people to play with right until the day they close the server for good - be that in the near or the far future.

Like others said the best way to immerse yourself is to keep following your own stories. It can help to think about something your character wants to achieve. Even if they aren’t succesful it can be a lot of fun to try and work towards that and it will keep your mind off the dreadful slog that is the SL storyline.

I played a lot in BfA and despite the expansion being bad overall, it did have some enjoyable parts (except patch 8.3 and how N’Zoth was dealt with). But I found that BfA had an excellent atmosphere for RP. Two new great continents, the long awaited island(s) of Kul Tiras, Teldrassil getting war crimed, etc. etc. lead to some cool stuff and I loved building and writing my Dark Iron dwarf to all the chaotic stuff that happened during BfA.

Shadowlands however… while I OOCly played through the expansion in the first few months, the fun was over really quick. More pointless systems gated behind time and yet even more systems - all to be replaced and made utterly worthless the next expansion. Another insane grind. Completely new areas and villains which are more shallow and lame than the last few season of GoT. The lore has gone beyond abysmal and at some points I didn’t even feel like I was in WoW. Revendreth for example, while amazing, is essentially just scuffed Bloodborne. Mount farming has become pointless, there are so many reskins and most mounts are obtained via asinine means like camping a rare for 2 hours and hoping the 1% drop chance will drop for you. I thought BfA had it bad but seeing all the Shadowlands mounts kind of killed my will to do any collecting.

How do I RP in ANY of these Shadowlands zones with my Dwarf? Yeah, I don’t. Oribos has to be the lamest capital city in the history of WoW and I never would’ve thought that I’d be saying I would rather have Dalaran for the 3rd time.

Azeroth is left with a heap of outdated zones some going as far back to still having lore from 15 years ago. The capital city of my faction has lore from Classic, Cataclysm, WoD and BfA all crammed into one mountain.

It’s clear Blizza-… Activision doesn’t really care about this game anymore. Despite the fact that I’ve played the hell out of this game, and still love it dearly, and I was glad that I joined a big RP community… it’s just not worth it anymore. I’m hoping it will change in the future but so far it is looking like despair.

I could rant on forever about many things like the lack of character customization on certain races but whatever

Character customisation was such a betrayal. Like, what the hell, Blizzard? ‘This will be the expansion of character customisation’ and then they promptly tell us no, that was just the prepatch?

What they did was good but it feels like they were only half done. Some races got so much more than others and some got hardly anything.
