It’s a questchain in the Blasted Lands (Pre-Iron Horde invasion version)
Gotta find the bodyparts of a demon hunter, slap them back together, res him at the altar then help him dunk a Dreadlord by trapping him in said DH’s body.
We see him return in Legion, he’s the Order Hall research person for the Demon Hunters iirc
But resurrection itself, iirc in Exiles Reach it’s explain (at least for priests) that the spell when you learn it just calls upon the light to bring people back from the brink of death, since it says they’re STILL alive but literally knocking on deaths door and WILL die without immediate intervention.
I am not sure if the same applies for every other resurrection spell in game (Druid, Shaman, Pally etc)
And TRUE resurrection is a thing I think, but VASTLY more difficult to pull off and with a LOT more things that can go wrong (Not sure on this one but I’m always up for being corrected if that’s the case!)
Is there a law against resurrecting? I could imagine Death Knights rezzing the dead left and right against their will because they don’t require a lifetime devotion with the light, a bag of scented holy candles and gleefully chanting holy scriptures to do the job.
There’s a difference between resurrection and reanimation. Notably that Death Knights aren’t infamous for bringing the dead back to life, but rather the undead remains and a tormented soul to pilot it around. This is necromancy, and is generally reviled and frowned upon to say the least. The Kirin Tor have also outlawed it as I recall, but… I think the only ones taking Kirin Tor law seriously are the Kirin Tor themselves.
Bringing the dead back to actual life is generally considered a positive and impressive feat of power/faith/luck, and I don’t think there are any established rules to try and dissuade from such.
I will add that I know DKs have a battle rezz ingame and I have no idea how lore accurate that ability is. But if they can in fact bring the dead to true life, I don’t think anyone would consider that nearly as vile as their necromancy.
That battle ress is themed in a way that seems the DK actually summon the ghost of their ally to fight.
and if I am not mistaken, in older versions it turned the player into an actual ghoul with its own set of abilities for a short span of time.
Given how resurrection works has been a bit vague, I always gave my own spin to it. It’s probably headcanon, but here’s how I usually go about it.
I always assume that a resurrection can be done, but that it is taxing on both the one performing the rez, aswell as the one being resurrected, taking alot of energy. Hence why if Des does perform one ( he’s only done it once, so far) it leaves him out of comission for quite some time, even if he has some items ( libram and something else) to enhance his healing and mitigate the energy-loss.
This way, I can use it if necessary, but it doesn’t become a cheap resurrection slot-machine.
I’d say it’s somethig like … If you are dead for a short period of time it works like in the game. But if you are dead for any longer it takes a lot of skill.
