“I pledge my life to this oath to keep the secrets of Azeroth hidden within this island, and protect the world from its horrors. I pledge my life to protect and serve the order. I am an instrument which guards the horrors untold, and to keep my kin safe." – Baradin Wardens Oath
I played around with the Void Elves one myself, and had the idea of their void-like powers could be useful as wardens, and that they were a part of the old Alliance as High Elves (The Alliance of Lordaeron).
Massive improvement on the oath, doesn’t reek of copypasta anymore.
And fair enough on the void elves, they’d actually be good for some of the more lovecraftian inmates. Also, I just remembered the Wardens exist and you should probably add Night Elves to the list.
Much obliged! I have the commenters on the forum to thank for that, especially Dudflex.
About the Watchers (the name of the Night Elf wardens), how would they fit into the Baradin Wardens, when they got their own prison on the Broken Islands?
Last I checked their own prison got a bit… how you say, overrun and utterly trampled? Not sure how the restoration of that’s going. I was mostly just aiming on it not being a culturally unlikely thing for some nelves to settle for a life of babysitting inmates.
Minor suggestion: “I pledge this Oath to keep the secrets of Azeroth hidden within this island and to shield the world from its grasp. With my life I protect and serve the order expecting neither glory nor reward. My name shall not be praised or remembered. From this moment, I am the Warden that guards the horrors untold.”
I don’t know if that goes too far into ‘Batman’-territory, but it avoids some repetition and adds a little more ‘drama’. Perhaps a combination of whatever floats your boat with the theme in mind.
In an attempt to remain constructive and nice (even when I’m obviously going to fail that), you could probably add a line to the Oath concerning the founder of Baradin Wardens. Something along the lines of:
…I hereby swear to uphold the honor and glory of serving the Wardens of Duke Reginald Baradin, as had those before me…
https://web.archive.org/web/20130521220402/http://us.battle.net/wow/en/faction/baradins-wardens for reference on the source of this very lovecraftian bit of single line lore in the game about an old leader of the Baradin’s Wardens.
Pay no heed to those criticising for launching another guild. They don’t pay your sub so have no right to tell you what to do. as far as I’m concerned you can do whatever the hell you like.
Question, why, when you’ve copy pasted the history of Tol Barad into your post (which is fine, given you’ve stated the source), have you then gone back and added spelling mistakes to make it look like you wrote it (badly)?
There are several threads dedicated to pet peeves and “what’s wrong with X” — if you isn’t here to provide OP with constructive criticism, then I suggest you pay those threads a visit👍🏼
Edit: my phone didn’t want to do the reply thingie for some reason
but… he’s talking about OP’s post and something that’s weird about it. I think you’re the one that needs to go to the pet peeve thread to get something off your heart, friendo.
Why would the night elves not fit? Granted, I would think they’d instead join Maiev’s Wardens instead of the human copy, but what other reasons are there actually for a night elf to not join the Baradin Wardens? I’m confused, considering they were the first to actually do such a thing to imprison dangerous creatures/criminals/demons → Barrow Dens / Vault of the Wardens
I thought of it only being a “human” organization, but after thinking it over, and with help from the forums here, I see now that night elves could fit within the Baradin Wardens.
