Founded in Spring 2015, Footman is one of Argent Dawn’s oldest surviving military guilds with a long and tattered history of participation in some of the realm’s fiercest conflicts of the past four years. Taking pride in their focus on the laymen, peasants, craftsmen and tradesmen drafted into the Army between 622 and 626KC the guild’s roleplay draws complexity from its simplicity: the humblest of men from the simplest of backgrounds piled together in an alien environment, held together only by the discipline borne of rigorous training and their love of one another. The bonds forged in battle by those who stand no chance against the heroes and horrors of Azeroth give Footman its flavour as the twisting story of an ensemble cast; in the four years of its activity Footman has told the story of seven different infantry companies with ten different commanding officers. Over one hundred and fifty different characters have taken the oath and bled for their Kingdom in that time, of which more than sixty have become casualties, twenty-nine of those killed in action.
As well as its pride in the simplicity of its characters breeding relatability in the development of their emotions, Footman also takes care to provide the most authentic representation of military roleplay possible. Through its winding story the guild has attempted many different mixes of varying periods of history, settling eventually on a careful blend of High Medieval, Ancient Roman and modern military doctrine. Though the research pool for the guild’s roleplay is vast and owes its depth to a half-dozen dedicated staff, the military aspect takes the back seat to the blossoming stories told by its muddied and downtrodden rank-and-file.
2nd (Northshire) Regiment of Foot
The 2nd (or Northshire) Regiment is Footman’s parent unit, representing a large formation of roughly 5,300 infantry soldiers divided into six battalions of nine companies. The most recent three iterations of Footman have claimed lineage from this unit; Allerian Company from 4th Battalion, Bolvar Company from 4th Battalion and Dragon Company from 1st Battalion.
The regiment marks Footman’s highest echelon of authority; although the soldiers take orders and oath from the King it is always the regimental colonel that provides them with orders, kit, pay and direction. While this colonel is a player character (and one of the guild’s oldest surviving members) the character performs an NPC role to provide context for the guild’s roleplay.
Below the regiment, the battalion commander, company commander, company sergeant major, company quartermaster sergeant and platoon commander are represented by player characters for the purpose of texture and detail in certain areas of roleplay. When treating with the unit for purposes of administration or co-operation, it is most likely a player will interact with the company commander.
2nd Platoon, Dragon Company is the playable unit: Footman has always been a platoon-size outfit and this is unlikely to change. The platoon is commanded by a lieutenant, though this role functions similarly as a playable NPC role. It is our experience that the proper representation of commissioned officers does not allow the player behind them to properly enjoy guild roleplay, so the guild master rank and highest playable character role is capped at the platoon sergeant.
Below the sergeant, the unit can vary in size between two and thirty soldiers.

Schedule, RP Style & Recruitment Guidelines
Footman’s style is and always will be humble. We are not looking for heroes, magicians, talented Light-wielders, half-elves, mountain kings, runemasters, assassins, deadeyes or anything beyond the scope of simple civilian characters. That is not to say these concepts do not belong in Warcraft - the setting is indeed high-fantasy - but for our roleplay they simply do not work. The type of roleplay we enjoy and have enjoyed for the past years is the gritty and very real relationship matrix developed by simple characters thrust into war against horrors they cannot imagine, forcing them to cling to each other and their training. It is as a unit that Footman survives, for any number of enemies in the World of Warcraft could slaughter them individually. We are not looking for heroes; the sort of player who wants to save an entire platoon single-handedly.
Footman recruits human warriors and paladins only to represent the classic Warcraft 3 sword-and-board footman. You must be above level 90 to join, and own the full Stormwind transmog set from the Garrison Bunker.

Warrant Officer (class 1) - Regimental sergeant major, 2nd (Northshire) Regiment of Foot.
Colonel - Regimental commander, 2nd (Northshire) Regiment of Foot.New characters may join the guild as either a Recruit or a Private depending on the character’s background, though if you claim your character to have military experience it is fully expected that you are able to demonstrate this with knowledge. The Footman rank represents the true core of the guild, as we have experienced many short-term bursts of motivation from new members and rely only upon the tested troops sitting at the heart of our guild whose slow burn of dedication has lasted months, if not years in many cases.
