[A-RP] The Charnel Knights - Geas of the Nathrezim

Wrapped up the first “moot” (basically a meeting with a fancy name slapped on it) today.
Overall I’d say it went pretty alright, we got the tenets hammered into our heads, what it means to be a knight of the Charnel, and so on.

Oh, and I (very intentionally) challenged Acharon to a duel, so if you wanna see me kick his behind live, you better join.

A loud cacophony of metal and magic broke the usual silence of Acherus balcony. After investigation, the Knights found that their private belongings in the citadel had been ransacked by peculiar magics. Through scrying, they managed to track down the Death Gate used by the culprit to escape.

The Gate led them to the wastes of Icecrown where the Charnel Knights found themselves scouring the high walls of the Citadel. More and more souls were drawn around them, incited by a pillar of dark magics seeking for the crack in the sky above. Calm at first, the souls quickly turned into a wall of wailing and lamentation, tearing at both souls and body of the Ebons.

Their escape led them to the source of the ritual : a shielded traitor Knight of Acherus who, enticed by the promise of power, sold himself to the forces beyond the veil. He sought to tribute those souls and the relics he stole from Baer to the darkened winged figures from the Shadowlands.

Waves of death lay awash upon the walls and many times the Knights barely escaped their death by falling. A deadly battle took place and magics beyond their understanding were unleashed. Knight Kiaphas found himself ensnared by chains wrought by the sworn Kyrians. Barely resisting the onslaught of Death, Harbinger Berwick finally managed to destroy the focus of the ritual right as it was about to succeed.

The victory was far from ringing and triumphant. Countless more souls had been poured into the darkened abyss within the sky and the Knights had been reminded of their own mortality far too much. A new question arose : why would the relics hoarded by the Fallen Crusader would interest the forces of Death so much ? The scholars of the orders will investigate.

The Knights gathered around in the crypt in the early hours of the evening, answering Sir Roderick’s call to convene. After holding hard for what felt like a decade, an unexpected company arrived in the stead of Roderick: A Forsaken informant.

Having worked with the old names in the retinue before, the bag of bones offered to part with the location of a sizeable host of the Scourge for the Knights to ambush in return of a favor. If the Knights were to obtain a certain artifact of power for this old wangler, the information would be theirs.

The scepter that the Forsaken was looking for was being held somewhere near Surwich, according to what he has shared with the Knights, so they took off posthaste to Blasted Lands in pursuit of the artifact pointblank. Upon their arrival, the Knights were welcomed by a handful of guardsman dispersed around the town. The men holding the bridge caused an unnecessary scene which was promptly defused by Knight Venderbright’s attempts, claiming that him and his retinue were envoys from Stormwind, arriving on a classified mission.

The most-ranking guardsman being a knucklehead Corporal, the Knights were allowed passage into the town. Things would have been going smoothly until the Knights discovered bloated remains of a Ghoul stuck under the bridge. With the outright rejection of the presence of said ghoul by the local guardsmen, the Knights came to the conclusion that they were bewitched and there was only one thing left to do. “Kill them all.”

The Knights swept into the town like a storm, cutting through the combatants, and some (You know who you are…) even through non-combatants alike. Upon the discovery of the corpse of a Cultist of the Damned at the outskirts of the town, the Knights’ worries were confirmed.

Odo Rivers, dubbed the Scourge Knight was able to decipher the note found by Venderbright that was written in Scourge runes which gave them a tiny clue on what was going on, shortly before raising the filth back up to extract further information.

With the guidance of the risen cultist, and also following the path of destruction that was left in their wake, the Knights caught the trail of whoever was responsible for the destruction of numerous ghouls and cultists tainted with Fel energy, which led them to the Altar of Storms.

On arrival, they were greeted by a young woman speaking in a tongue foreign to all by the Altar. Alerted to the Knights’ presence by Rivers’ brutish charge which left him bounced back what would be 20 feet away from the Altar, she demanded the reason they were here. “The Scepter.”

She was almost amused by the answer, returning the Scepter she was holding to the Knights truly nonchalantly before asking their leave. Yet this jest must’ve been insulting to some of the Knights, given yet another charge at the woman, at the cost of revealing her true form: a Dread Lord dubbed Antherodyr.

Knowing the fight was lost, after most of the knights were engulfed in Felfire and some in no capacity to defy the Dread Lord’s presence, Berwick opened up a portal in order to evacuate, which Antherodyr allowed, amused of the sight before the Nathrezim.

Once back in the Crypt, they were met with the old Forsaken that sent them there, waiting for his Scepter. After an exchange which could be hardly called friendly, both sides called their night somewhat satisfied, even after the (to some) humiliating retreat in the face of Great Evil.

What will the Scepter be used for? What was the Nathrezim seeking in the Blasted Lands? What was its relation to the Scepter? Will it be the last time they see of Antherodyr? All of these questions surely will be answered in time. But for now, The Charnel Knights has more Scourge to kill.

Once again our foolish upper-echelon leads us into certain death. I admit, that hurt… Good fighting!

Hello AD,

With the recent success and downright surprising launch we have experienced, The Charnel Knights will be considering new sign-ups once more. Our Dicemaster system is fully operational and customised, leaving us with a better capacity for catering events to a larger audience.

That said, we are still aiming for a limited, small enough roster count, as stated in a previous post. We will be looking for members that best suit the Chapter’s newly introduced Code and Tennets, as well as those who fit in with our existing member base.

Currently the Charnel Knights have around four storylines unfolding progressively as time goes on, with added room for impromptu events whenever possible. In short; we like to keep busy, and we like it that way.

If you are interested, please refer yourself to the thread’s introductory post for contact details or find us IC for some genuine ol’ confrontation Role-Play.

Thank you, and have a good one.

Within the glades of the Eastweald, the Scourgewalker Odo Rivers declared Death Challenge upon Joseph Atren, a reject of the Ebon Blade who found solace within the Scarlet Crusade. To cleanse the shame of the order, nothing but victory was expected from Rivers. The deadly dance was overseen by the other Charnel Knights, surrounding the spectacle like a rabid crowd.

Weapons clashed and unholy blood permeated the air, both belligerants seeking to exsanguinate and crush the skull of the foe. In the end, the Scourgewalker’s sword found its way into Atren’s neck. A swift strike of steel was all was required to sever head from body. Trophies were claimed : the fallen traitor blade for Rivers and Atren’s head as a tribute for the Argents of Heartglenn.

On their way back to the western glades of the Eastweald, the victorious Knights stumbled upon the remnants of the Scarlets. Were they coming to avenge their Fallen undead ? Most likely not. Nonetheless, they were more than content to deliver the Light Justice upon the unholy bodies. Surrounded and clearly outnumbered, the Knights were close to break before they escaped through a Death Gate. The Crimson banner claimed victory… For this day.

The Knights find themelves entangled with many intrigues that reach beyond their Scourge eradiction duty within the North. On one side, they are torn by the Scarlet threat they failed to quell within Stratholme. No doubt that the Crimson belligerents will seek retribution for the undead transgressions. On another side, their meager alliance with the livings has been compromised by the Lordamere Rangers. Indeed, the Charnel Knights found themselves threading on Drust magics, which drew the attention of the ragged collective and their Antiquarian friends. A powerful chalice lies at the center of the conflict.

All in all, there is no respite for the knightly cohort and no shortage of blood to sate.
Feel free to procure your own tribute to the cause through either duty or blood.

The membrane gripped, Rivers took all he could to focus on the gem attached: the souls screamed, begged and yelled for release as they began to be inflicted with wranging pains like none other. As Odo left his focus from the crystal, so too did the voices begin to hush; muddled now only by silence, and relief from wracking torture that Rivers had felt since he was bid to service.

That same torture he knew now was inflicted on the souls within his trinket.

The rest present with Rivers had been given this gift by Berwick, the device they all took up in promise of sating their hunger. Some, like Hugues, felt so attached to their killer instinct that they felt lost without it: others, like Venderbright, saw this temporary relief - a measly two weeks, painless, before having to take another life - as less than what was promised by the Charnel Harbinger.

Odo? The tactile Knight he was, only saw this device for what it was: a boon, delivering his mind from eternal affliction, to work at the height of his ability. He showed as much with one, final claim: that they were only coming closer to Godhood.

With his mind given reprieve, it had only got to work at inflating Rivers’ ego.

Enlisted with a force of livings faithful to the Alliance, the Charnel Knights work to escort a tome of dark magics to Blackrock Mountain, where it will hopefully be destroyed. Amongst their allies, the Dwarves of the League of Modimus, the Draenei of the Order of Oronar and the garrison of Stromgarde.

More than their sense of honour and duty, it is strife for battle that drives them to face the Crownbreaker forces led by the Executor of the Rotgarde and the Baron of the Grim Gest. No matter the outcome of the mission, the blood tithe will be paid.

Might, Guile, Ardor.
Any Knight of Acherus willing to follow those tennets is welcome in the brotherhood.

I, too, have thrown my lot with the Charnel Knights! The roleplay so far has been spectacular, and it has shown me a flavor of death knight roleplay I have never seen before. I heartily recommend giving the guild a chance if you are in doubt :eyes:.

Help us bring the fight to the Undead Scourge as well as those who yet seeks to prevent us from carrying out our unholy duty.

The Charnel Knights return to their crypt after escorting the dark tome of the Baron Blightreek to Blackrock Mountain. After a fierce battle alongside the livings, the vile artifact was tossed onto the belly of the mountain. Shamanistic rituals and void interference caused the lava to overflow, forcing every belligerent out of the mountain.

The undead, freed of their charge, thus return to their own quest for a cure to the Eternal Hunger and the eradication of Scourge Remnants. Their gaze fall upon Nazmir next…

The Hunger’s call had drawn some of the death knights to Dalson’s Farm: they had struck first, and blood was spilled. Soon enough, both Argent and Ebon reinforcements had arrived, as well as a few lowly Scourge encroaching from the fields, but even though they undeniably were the two parts’ common enemy, most were not sure who the true enemy was.

In the midst of the chaos, pain suddenly shot through Haile’s lower back as he sat atop his deathcharger with his back turned towards the southern thicket, a pain great enough to startle even a death knight. He groaned, and his deathcharger rode a little away at its master’s command in a half-hearted attempt to get out of range, or sight, of whoever his assailant was.

And as he determinedly tried to locate the attacker, he reached behind his back, to where the pain originated, and grabbed ahold of the arrow. He broke it and brought it closer to his eyes: a shadowy fog still clung to the black feathers. It was a black arrow. He now had a good idea of what kind of archer had shot him. He then pulled the rest of the arrow out.

Some of the others present had, meanwhile, managed to spot the dark ranger, and thanks to one of the Argent Crusade, she was impaled against a tree from a spear throw from afar. Before Haile could reach her with his deathcharger, the banshee led out a deafening wail, powerful enough to send the death knight flying off his undead horse.

He was quickly back on his feet however, but once he reached the dark ranger, she had already broken free of the spear and was now upon him. Her agility caught him off guard, and she managed to wound him yet again - it was, in the end, thanks to the efforts of Argel and his hammer that the banshee met her Final Death.

The conflict between both parties at Dalson’s Farm was far from resolved, but they eventually walked their separate ways. Haile was angry with himself for not having anticipated that there would still be dark rangers around the Plaguelands - the Blightcaller had, afterall, made his last stand not far from there. The attack had awakened a hunger for vengeance within him. When next the Hunger called on him, he now knew who he was going to hunt for first.

A few days after their Charnel Joust, the Knights confronted one of the many darker Valkyrs that flew within the sky of Icecrown ever since it shattered. On one of them, they found remnants of a broken mirror. Gazing into its reflection seemed to force the Knights to reminisce some figments of their pasts. Alas, the artifact broke quickly due to the damage it suffered in battle.

Nonetheless, it filled Sir Hugues with hope. The prospect of recovering his memory using the craftmanship from beyond the veil obsessed his mind. Day and night, he schemed to convince his brothers to follow him to the Shadowlands to help him rediscover who he really is. To take back what the Ebon Blade stole from him.
