[A-RP] The <Lionheart> - Undermine's Loaded Gun

Abyssal Sands is concluded!

The Lionheart arrived in time to repel the silithid swarm from the walls of Orsis, before settling in for a days-long siege. Throughout the siege, the allied forces were further reinforced by adventurers, a regiment from Stormwind and anubisath awakened by the tol’vir.

With the silithid repelled from Uldum, the Lionheart struck out into Ahn’Qiraj proper to deal with their leader, a qiraji prophet calling himself the new Emperor. Within the dead city, they were met by the Horde warband that was first to arrive to aid the tol’vir, their corpses puppeted by the forces of the Void in mockery of their defiance.

After putting the warband to rest, the Lionheart finally found the Emperor attempting some sort of ritual to call out to the Great Dark Beyond for a new patron. However, they were able to disrupt the ritual and then kill the Emperor-without-an-empire.

They made sure to recover the bodies of the fallen Horde soldiers before departing the ruined city, and they are to be returned to Orgrimmar for a proper send-off as a gesture of detente and respect for their sacrifice.

The Lionheart have slain a Dark Rider in Duskwood, recovering an artifact that once belonged to Medivh in the process.

It was not without difficulty however, the artifact conjured echoes of the past, projecting illusions and conjurations like paintings that proved to be real enough to damage and hurt.

The Lionheart were subject to a worgen attack at the height of the troubles in Duskwood, then a vicious battle between orcs and humans during the First War, and finally beheld the events that led to the death of the father of their leader. Their attempt to stop the death being shown to them resulted in the artifact painting a vision of a future that didn’t come to pass, showing children that live today killed at the hands of Lady Katrana Prestor - Onyxia.

Despite the spiritual damage inflicted on some of the Lionheart by this, they persevered and overcame their foe, though with the Dark Rider killed instead of captured, it will inevitably return again.

Is recruitment still open? Would there be room for a Dracthyr Warder (warrior) with aspirations of heroism?

Yes, recruitment is still open! If you have any questions, feel free to add me on Discord: foxesz

We slew the skardyn in a great battle that started in the Isle of Dorn and brought us tumbling down all the way into Azj-Kahet! There were some close calls, but teamwork and perseverance saw us through it - even when the Void sought to convince us to not break its ‘heart’.

The Lionheart have successfully defeated a Nightmare-empowered Harpy Queen. Combining Warden Dawnshade’s own magic with that of the Arcane, they were able to sneak passed the Horde border guards and into the Barrens and ventured to the Dry Hills. Using a branch of the World Tree imbued with some of Archdruid Stormrage’s power, they summoned a mighty tornado to ground the Harpy Queen and disperse her attacking flock. Though the Queen was able to damage the branch in the fight and allow her flock to attack again, the arrival of a Horde warband gave the Lionheart the opening needed to bring her close to death and allow the Warden to imprison her, the lesser harpies killed or scattered by the Horde.

The encounter with the warband ended amicably, with the Lionheart’s previous actions in Uldum and Ahn’Qiraj garnering them respect from the warband’s leader, Kamagosh, who was introduced to Valis. He declared them dealing with the Harpy Queen forgave their trespass in Horde lands, though he urged them to depart quickly after signalling a wish to meet again on neutral ground.

Upon their return to Hyjal, before the other Wardens arrived, Dawnshade - her first name revealed to be Khryseis by Valis - confided in the Lionheart that it was impossible that the Harpy Queen did not have inside help to escape the jail, and declared her intent to investigate. She may call upon the Lionheart again in future for assistance.

Threads of Fate

Against all odds, they prevailed...

The Lionheart gathered in Stormwind’s mage tower for their deployment to the Dragon Isles, where they met with an old ally of Valis - the blue dragon, Xanagos. He informed them of new time anomalies that had been appearing throughout Thaldraszus. They agreed to investigate them, and found out that some were linked to the same apocalyptic future from which the message in a bottle came. The first anomaly brought them into a vault at that time, where only shattered belongings of its survivors remained - and the mention of a Watcher named Penthos.

After a ‘brief’ stint of being trapped in a time bubble at Gelikyr Post, they were freed by the Timewalker Learthas and Sonadormi, who confirmed that some of the anomalies out there had a particular signature - their own. They also met Erakaan of the Tyr’s Guard who called upon their aid at Tyrhold where another, larger anomaly had occurred. During Tyr’s wanderings of the Isles, they could use all the help and they agreed once more to aid.

At Tyrhold, the anomalies they encountered took a different shape. With them meeting Rikart Helmesfall, a former member of the Lionheart, from the alternate future. He’d been scarred by the battle for his dying world and shared that they’d sent Penthos over, though there was no sign of him. Their reunion was brief, however, as they descended down the hold and were ambushed by a Void-scarred Fiend who slew the worgen and escaped afterwards. Once they’d reached the bottom, they met with their Penthos who’d been busy with catching other anomalies that’d manifested as globes of sand. With no sign of the Fiend and many more anomalies around, he asked for their help and offered them refuge at Tyrhold for the time being.

The anomalies manifested in different ways to different people, with some meeting alternate versions of past loved ones, and others having to chase the orbs as they playfully led them across the grounds of Tyrhold. Afterwards, they regrouped and investigated a nearby Vault where one of Penthos’ devices that helped him maintain security was attacked. They found a tattered Argent Crusade tabard and broken fishing pole, before they came under attack by Void-corrupted refti guardians, no doubt victims of the Fiend.

The following day, Penthos had the damaged device repaired and tracking down its attacker just outside Tyrhold. It sensed two anomalies there, with the first ambushing them in a Light-blessed minefield and revealing himself to be Kalrite Roach of the alternate future. He apologised for the hurt he’d caused and together they teamed up against the Fiend who sought to kill him, but failed to do so and was forced to retreat. Upon their return at Tyrhold, ‘Roach’ gave his farewells before passing peacefully in his sleep.

Penthos, urged by the Lionheart to investigate any unauthorised access to titan facilities, informed them a few days later of an intruder in the Vault of the Incarnates. It was likely that the alternate Penthos would be there, so they ventured to its entrance only to find the door locked tight and a battle raging on before it between Tallat, another alternate member of the Lionheart, and the Fiend. Despite a gruesome battle between the Void-scarred hunter and the Lionheart, they came out victorious at the cost of Tallat’s life in a heroic self-sacrifice. The door, however, remained shut and Penthos arrived some time later in order to override its defences.

The final stretch of their journey in the Dragon Isles was within the Vault of the Incarnates itself. The Lionheart had the backing of its allies in Penthos, the Tyr’s Guard, as well as Xanagos and, later on, Learthas and Sonadormi. The emptiness of the Vault was disturbing and the Void’s influence could be felt with every step they took. A barrier of Void, shifting across two timelines, barred their path and the only way to break it was by ridding the Vault of its last few time anomalies.

Learthas, Sonadormi, and Xanagos would take one side of the Vault while the Lionheart took the other. There, they met an injured Learthas, the one responsible for all the anomalies, who guided them towards the last two with a plea to break them so his Sonadormi could break free. The first anomaly was a giant statue of some unknown, twisted creature, reaching up towards a starless sky and protected by former members of the Lionheart who were twisted by the shadow.
The second was Valis himself in the draconic form granted to him by his artefact, though he was kept suspended in the air and reached desperately towards twin purple stars in the sky above. After each anomaly was broken or killed, they found a fatally-injured Sonadormi who was brought back from the brink by the healers throwing everything they had at her. She confessed that she and Learthas were responsible for bringing Penthos over, together with the other Lionheart’s volunteers.

Then, came the final confrontation with the assistance from a surprising corner: Konrad Everby, the last survivor of the alternate Lionheart. The guild had settled on trying to cleanse the corrupted Penthos - known as the Witness of Fate - or kill him, if all efforts to cleanse him failed.

They battled for a long time, bringing their all to bear against the twisted Watcher…and, despite all the odds being stacked against them, succeeded in cleansing him of the Void that had burrowed deep inside of him. It was a bittersweet moment, and both he and Konrad were sent back to their doomed timeline together with the other Learthas and Sonadormi. How the future will shape up for them, is a story only they will ever know…

…But the Lionheart was victorious and now must lick their wounds and deal with the aftermath of the confrontation.

The Lionheart have answered a call to aid from the Shado-Pan, which took them to the Isle of Thunder, where a Mogu Warlord had entered the palace and began to loot and explore it’s depths. This triggered a response from the Shado-Pan, and they attempted to oust him but were repelled with two casualties.

Those called to assist arrived at the Violet Rise, largely abandoned except for the remaining tower, an arcane golem and the Kirin Tor sigil braziers scattered around the former outpost. They were briefed by Cao Tang, a member of the Shado-Pan who was wounded by the mogu they would be hunting. Cao warned them that the warlord may have already completed what he came here to do, given the Shado-Pan’s failure to apprehend him.

Upon departing the Violet Rise, the group beheld a series of lightning bolts launching into the swamps around them, originating from a swirling mass of darker clouds hanging above the isle. These lightning bolts reanimated the remains of Zandalari trolls scattered throughout the area, and though there were many of them they proved little obstacle to the Lionheart as they made their way towards the palace. Even a reanimated devilsaur did not give them much pause.

Upon their approach to the grand staircase, two Lightning Revenants manifested from the same dark cloud to attempt to waylay them, and though they proved more of a danger than the undead trolls, they were defeated as the link connecting them was severed, though the Lionheart’s attending warlock was prevented from draining the soul of one of them, and it seemingly returned to the clouds it had originated from.

The Lionheart encountered the mogu warlord next, a construct made of amethyst, lacking an arm and only possessing one remaining eye. He was attending to a Pandaren bell suspended between two lightning pylons, and was not forthcoming as to his goals. He invited the Lionheart to strike first, and battle began.

The warlord was a formidable fighter, using a monk-like way of fighting as well as lightning - with his missing arm being replaced by lightning that could morph into different weapons. The bell itself also proved to be dangerous, emitting lightning bolts in response to being attacked. However, a combined effort eventually resulted in the warlord being put on the backfoot, and the bell destroyed. Upon doing so, it emitted a shockwave that sent people flying, however, those that weren’t were able to attack the warlord as he attempted to retreat, and he ended up falling down the stairs behind him, his badly damaged form shattering in the tumble.

Once again an attempt was made to seize his soul before it could escape into the clouds like the Revenants and other undead had, but a far stronger force wrested it away and the soul was able to escape - into the crystal of a Scourge Necropolis that lowered itself from the swirling clouds it had been hidden in. After it’s reveal, it left, flying away from the Isle of Thunder wreathed in that same protective storm cloud.

None-the-less, the mogu was confirmed deceased, and the Lionheart met Cao Tang back at the courtyard they had fought in. Those knowledgeable in the subject were quick to identify the bell as being similar to the Divine Bell that the Warchief Garrosh had attempted to claim during the war on Pandaria, and though it was only a replica the implications of it being taken were unsettling - fortunately, it was destroyed and this was prevented.

Cao Tang was also greatly disturbed by the presence of a Scourge Necropolis in Pandaria, even if it had departed, he swore the Shado-Pan would assist in dealing with it wherever it appeared next, and commended the Lionheart for their victory and thanked them for their assistance.

The Lionheart then returned to the Violet Rise, and departed the Isle of Thunder.

Smuggling in the Sound

The Lionheart has arrived in Tiragarde Sound last night to investigate rumours of new weapons finding their way into Freehold.

They’re currently situated at Kennings Lodge and have found evidence of two Kul Tiran soldiers who were killed - and dissolved into ash - in the pass just south of their position. Now, they await news of a military unit from Stormwind who are on route to investigate these same weapons.

We’re looking forward to a short but sweet event series with the Hounds of Wrynn; what will they discover? :eyes:

A sincere thank you from the Hounds of Wrynn to Lionheart for a short but intense cooperative campaign, everyone has thoroughly enjoyed themselves through the blood, the gore and the moral dilemmas.

Know that out there is a unit of human delinquents who would gladly play the role of cannonfodder for you again.

In his typical fashion, Valis has returned to Stormwind and immediately started to call for the commander who passed the orders to D-Company of the 82nd Regiment for their deployment to Tiragarde Sound to be stripped of their rank and all honours for actively endangering the lives of soldiers by issuing unrealistic orders, with no possibility of interpretation or allowing adaptation to changing circumstances, that if not for the Lionheart’s intervention would have likely resulted in deaths or at the very least mass casualties.

Said orders, explicitly calling for the execution of prisoners in flagrant violation of the Alliance’s and Stormwind Army’s code of conduct, were also unlawful, immoral and an affront to the Light, the King and the people. Any orders of such nature undermine the kingdom and all it stands for, dishonouring all that came before and all that will come after. They cannot be allowed to be issued again by anyone who does not see or experience the consequences of such orders themselves from the safety and comfort of Stormwind Keep.

These orders sullied what otherwise should have been a great victory. Black Blood, both in weaponised form and more volatile storage, has been excised from Freehold and the crew who smuggled them killed almost to a man. Following that, the truce the pirates had established with Kul Tiras can be allowed to continue as they fully disavowed and even aided in the downfall of the rogue crew of the ogre Captain Foulbelly. Valis is complimentary of the skills and dedication of D-Company, he only laments that they are being wasted and degraded by a coward of a commander.

But why did Valis reform the Lionheart, anyway?

The Lionheart find time for some rest and recovery after a hectic few weeks, with their adventures taking them from Lordaeron investigating a fallen star and the Scarlets who claimed it, back to Khaz Algar to hunt a mad mage responsible for murders in Stormwind, on to Kalimdor to foil goblin black blood experimentation and smuggling, and then to Stromgarde to help combat the extremists of the Red Dawn.

They go from victory to victory, continuing to work together in the face of personal struggles and hardships for the good of the Alliance and of Azeroth.

Undermine's Loaded Gun

The Lionheart is off on another one of our major campaigns — this time, they will travel to Undermine itself!

Jazrik, a former Venture Co. pilot the Lionheart saved in Khaz Algar at the end of last year, has sought out the guild with new information that’d interest them. Some former Gallywix loyalists seek to make a new, big deal by selling leftover Black Blood weaponry to… the nerubians! The very same faction they fought back in Khaz Algar, led by Magistrate Akkrit’al, in fact.

They’ve agreed to go after them and stop the deal before the weapons can end up in the nerubians’ hands, and planned to work together with Jazrik’s new boss: Donny ‘Don’ Ballystix.

In the campaign’s first act, they travelled to Gutterville to pick up the tickets for their ride to Undermine, but one of the boss’ daughters, Shay, left for Sanity’s Rest before the Lionheart arrived. Once there, they found that many miners who used to work in the Writhing Fields remain ill from contact with the Blood they harvested. Shay and her father want to cure them, but they needed the right data first.

And so the Lionheart agreed to help and retrieve the data after her shredder with research equipment went missing in the Writhing Fields. Unfortunately, the battle didn’t go quite as planned and they only managed to retrieve a very damaged black box. Whether it’ll be enough remains to be seen…

Can confirm this is typical Lionheart behaviour - Valis and his sister are murdering tyrants funded by old money to oppress good goblinfolk
