When will this end. I feel bad for those who lost their jobs. I have you get better opportunity elsewhere in the future.

Worst part of it all is that at the same time the greedy pig at the top gets more obscenely wealthy with stupidly large bonus.

Sympathy for those people but…

WoW doesn’t have e-sport potential
WoW doesn’t want to spend in community manager

Those people are easy cut off in overall cost reduction so what MBA admins people gonna do ???

Greed is a disgusting thing.

It’s not like more people are playing more games while stuck at home during extended lockdown periods.

We can only hope they start laying off from the top.

That only happens when the company is no worth to investors and the company is closed down. But even in those cases the CEO gets obscenely large severance pay and rest get nothing or anything they can steal before the last day on the job.

Blizzard: them moneyzzz are flowing guys, we have so many projects ongoing!
Also Blizzard: Covid is tough and we have too many employees :frowning:

:woman_facepalming:

If a market falls away because of “reasons” its damn common sense you wouldn’t keep the people working there.

Sure, Bobby earns too much. Doesn’t mean that this wasn’t the right decision though.

Yes well said, however the market did not fall away and even after the subscriber dip after the initial spike since the launch of Shadowlands. Blizzard is still in the top 5 income grossing games world-wide.

Saving costs by cutting the work force who’s overall salary pales in comparison to the large sum bonus of $200m for that greedy jackass… absolute logic in that.

Sounds more like transferring their salary into his pocket… and not saving costs…

workforce that could have been trained and re-employed in other positions, instead of being kicked to the streets.

Sadly this is what most big companies do:
when talking with the investors they brag about their success, and incredible growth above every expectation.
when talking with employees, they whine that everything is expensive and the market is harsh and they have to lay off people, or have to cut bonuses.

It’s the same in every field.

The esports scene did kind of fall into a gap. That the game overall did well is another story.

It’s a bit like airline companies, cut down the flights by 99%, ofc you don’t need most stewards and pilots then. Same here, big events became a simple stream - don’t need the whole shabang to organize that.

We live in a boring dystopia. Tax the rich. F* them.

So this means we’re going to get even less content in the future. 8.3 was the warning sign when they just recycled a bunch of old zones.

I don’t know what this has to do with development since it was e-sport staff that got laid off?

Unless you count AWC as content?

This is the future we’re heading for.
Are people not aware of the obvious implications of new technology?

If you’re young either go into social fields (nursing, care, waiting, entertainment) or technology. Everything else will be phased out in this life time.

Yeah they always like to claim that none of the layoffs had anything to do with game development. That’s called press release.

Ah yes, clearly you know best. Don’t forget to lock the bunker so the deep state can’t reach you!
