They did at least put the old Scarlet Monastery and Scholomance back in though…
Yes so many cool zones removed. We have classic but it’s not the same
Yes, I would want to have the option at Chromie to go back in time to vanilla days inside retail and also they need to bring back what they had removed in Cata. Worst expansion ever.
Edit: Classic WoW will never truly capture the essence of vanilla. I refuse to play it because it doesn’t integrate with retail. Vanilla WoW was originally part of the retail experience, not a separate game. We’re missing out on the full experience that existed back then. If TBC and WoTLK can be played through Chromie time, there’s no reason why vanilla can’t be included as well.
While true, it would be awesome to play through the old quest lines and stuff.
I don’t hate Cata content. But the issue is that every story became about the cataclysm, instead of their own contained stories. Which was interesting.
But it’d be a huge undertaking for blizzard to re-add everything to the game. So it’s extremely unlikely to happen. Vanilla servers exist, they want you to play them instead.
Edit: And I know Vanilla isn’t a great substitute for being able to do in retail. I hate Vanilla, clunky gameplay, no Xmog… err… actually, no Xmog is my biggest gripe. XD
There is also a secondary problem connected to this (which has actually been mentioned in passing by devs).
A lot of stuff has happened since the cataclysm (lore-wise), and its a bit weird to have a lot of these zones still be all “cataclysmic”.
The vanilla zones had bit more of a timeless feel to them.
What about TBC and WoTLK - aren’t they considered timeless? Yet, they’re included in Chromie Time. Also, if they were to add vanilla to Chromie Time, it wouldn’t connect to Cataclysm at all. The cataclysmic events and the lore changes that followed would be completely absent.
I think you misunderstand me, i mean that having the vanilla zones availiable in Chromie time would be good, exactly because they are less dependent on players knowing the whole story of Azeroth
Yes, I misunderstood you. Vanilla was the foundation of everything, so including it in Chromie Time would be ideal for newcomers joining the game now and even later. It would provide a clear starting point, showing how everything has evolved to the present day.
Also… there isnt a big war going on at that point in time
True that
No from me. Classic zones are Cata zones now and that can be played both through Hromie and outside of it.
I would really like this. I couldn’t play WoW as a kid because it was too expensive according to my parents, who send me off to a cheaper $5 point and click MMO… I’d love to catch up on classic stories and unlock the transmogs for my collection.
It’s not like I’m strongly opposed, but it seems like a waste of resources at this point due to mainly 2 reasons:
-
Leveling to the current expansion is a small part of gameplay, most things happen in the max level range.
-
There’s classic wow for those who want to look at the old world.
I don’t know how much effort it would take to implement the old zones into the current retail version, bring them up to speed, implement scaling, balance them around the current state of the game, adapt the rewards and whatever else there’d be to do but I strongly suspect it’s just too much work for something that, frankly, doesn’t add much to the game.
In hindsight, it could have been possible but possibly it was not attempted because the tech that enabled switching between phases of zones with Zidormi appeared in BFA, 8 years after Cata. So they could have given players the option, through Chromie this time, to chose for all of EK and Kalimdor if a player would like to be in its Classic, its Cataclysm or its BFA version.
Maybe there would exist another technical limitation with flying not being able to be… enabled in Classic version. I also don’t know how much development time it would take to incorporate that in retail now, having to check every single quest if it works, and if it would be “worth” the development cost for that.
-=Prepost Edit=-
It seems many of us shared the same idea
Classic levelling is gone because the classic levelling zones have completely changed.
So, no.
I think it adds to the charm of Classic Vanilla to see that world pre cata state.
However, I detest Classic gameplay so it’s not for me
WoW Classic exists. You should try it.
Classic servers are actually Retail servers, but using the data from the original expansion. They just migrate that data to the format used today. That mean’s theer wouldn’t be any issue with implementing in Classic a feature from expansions after that (and by the way, it was introduced in MOP. The first Zidormi was for Theramore). There has been other systems implemented in Classic that doesn’t correspond to the Classic expansions, so that isn’t an issue.
They can just implement a buff when in those phases that disallow players from flying. That already exists in Retail.
I don’t think they do this, even for Classic. Given that Classic is actually Retail with Classic migrated data that means Classic quests data is already migrated to Retail. So works, it should works. Another thing is that those zones lack some modern features like the quest helper or maps for outdoor caves, and those things must be developed to be included. But there is no reason to believe that most of the zones and quests won’t work in Retail as they work in Classic versions.
Some work could be required to have both version at the same time in the realm. That doesn’t exists. But they can make separate shards for Classic version and Cataclysm version and use different data from both shards. That is how Pandaria Remix worked. That is also how Classic, Classic Hardcore and SoD work too.
I think that after Pandaria Remix, most work that they would need to have different Retail versions is already done. At least to make a Remix version having separate characters for both versions.
Probably additional work, but I don’t think to much, could be required to have multiple versions for the same characters. But I would love them to do this so we can have some sort of Timewalking Shard. Imagine that during Timewalking you could travel to shards in wich the world is exactly as it was in the original expansion, instead of just 5 dungeons and 1 Raid.
