The problem I want to fix is that it takes ages to find people to queue with in arena.
What I propose is the following: the ability for people to queue solo and add combination of classes and spec one would be willing to play with (maybe one can add up to 5 different setups). The system will be similar to the queue system for heroic dungeons and put one with people of similar rating. One can also imagine a rating bonus for wins / deduciton for losses when using that system (similar to XP boost in pug) as it is harder to play with pugs than premades.
I played a lot of rated arenas myself (peaked at 2k4 in TBC): I know that one must have other similarly rated friends to be able to queue and that the process of building an arena buddies friendlist is very time consumming. As I am coming back, I know almost nobody and my gametime is limited. I am certain I am not the only one in my situation.
Also, this solves the problem of bad matchmaking from its root. Indeed, by bringing more people in arenas, matching teams with similar rating will be more likely (see issue Arena Matchmaking System - #9)
Please comment and let me know if there are any weak spot in this suggestion and what you would do to improve this idea! That would be amazing if we could make things better.
It’s a great idea, but you will never get people on the forums to agree with you due to survivorship bias.
There is no inherent problem with the matchmaking system of arena.
The only issue is that in the pre-patch (when there is no active season) is everyone/lots of people are permanently stuck in a “placement games” state.
This state causes, for your first 10 games, the MMR system to match you against vastly different opponents to try and get you as close as possible to your real MMR within the 10 games.
So as you can imagine having a lot of players being permanently stuck in this state is… bad.
Or an 1v1 arena. Not saying it should be just like a duel but it would be fun if they could find a way to make it intresting maybe with random events(like a fog that makes you only see in like a 5ft range, or a blizzard that slows you by 30% or a laser randemly shoots somewhere on the map etc) or something just to make it harder to pick a meta class that can beat anything easily.
If you want Solo que be serious and fun for one then every Class and spec needs to be designed and tested properly. It will never happen with modern Blizzard cluelessness.
The teams are not completely random. The player who would queue must provide a selection of comps he wants to play: of course, the more he gives, the shorter his queue will get.

Good comment
However, note that pre-expansion release is the best time to make that point, as a lot of PvPers are returning. Leading to the survivor biais to be at its minimum for some time
