This type of thread seems to come up every day at this point. Blizzard should definitely put more value on privacy and limit third party stuff imo. If you wanna ghost someone, you also should be able to do that in a video game, because this is a safe space/comfort zone. Ignoring not being account-wide + stuff like check-pvp is really a no-go.
Being someone who has had a stalker IRL, not being able to use addons or third party websites for a video game is the LEAST of OPs concerns if she has a stalker.
OPT OUT OF THIRD PARTY SHARING!!
Handle the issues of the person stalking/harassing with help from the GMs and or the police if they know IRL personal stuff that could lead to them finding you in real life.
STOP CARING ABOUT WARCRAFT LOGS!!
It doesnât matter compared to being stalked and/or harassed.
But OP said she experiences it in-game, not IRL. In-game she should have tools to escape from him without losing anything. You can say itâs her last concern, but itâs silly that itâs even possible, on blizzardâs end.
Also, I feel sorry for you, that you had to go through this⌠I donât wanna imagine how it feels. I donât wanna dicuss this with you, if you had this experience IRL, and I will just leave it at that and wish you the best of luck in the future <3
She does but you seem to think they arenât good enough and want blizzard to wave a magic wand.
I mean I have another perfect solution, absolutely foolproof! but you, and OP, will hate it tooâŚ
Create a brand new account and start from scratch!! The stalker/harasser wonât have any info of your new account or the chars and wonât be able to find you.
Well, I think blizzard should work with 2-3 third party sites maximum, so we can be more selective in where we want to share info, and where not. Currently, there is just a toggle ^^ For example, if I play pvp on an alt, why does anyone need to know what my main is? why do I have to opt out from other services, just because some rogue sites can missuse my data, and to opt out, I need to give them more info by signing up on those with my blizzard account lol. Just seems lazy. Why does anyone have the power to stop you from using important tools, just because itâs a toggle? Why not have it by default, that we donât share anything, and we only share, if we sign up, until we decide to sign off.
The second part is purely my opinion and experience in the game, which is why it starts âPersonallyâ.
Nobody wants to be stalked or be targetted in this way. If it persists Iâd be tempted to report them.
Ah so everyone else should suffer as well even tho there are already ways to opt out of everyone of them.
Also hot news for you: A Stalker will stalk you even if blizzard were to implement the stuff youre proposing.
Swap shards. Have blizzard investigate for griefing. Get people to wipe the floor with them should they show up in a pvp zone again.
If you play pvp on an alt why do you care if someone figures out your main?
Say you play pvp on bob but pve on stuart why does it matter if people know both chars? They can manually track you via the armoury if they are determined enough anyway. Check pvp just takes out the leg work for you.
Blizzard just allows the sites access to their API which has ZERO personal data attached, nothing in it belongs to you. It is all Blizzards property to do with that they want.
You do not, never have and never will own Rootlocus and anything associated with Rootlocus or the account it is attached to.
Your personal data - address, email, phone number - are all kept private by blizzard, these sites do not get access to those. They only get stuff that is property of Blizzard.
So my advice, if you (or in this case OP) is getting stalked/harassed is to utilise the tools available and turn off third party site sharing. Report the harasser and get help from the GMs and consider involving the police if this goes outside of the game and the the harasser has personal details that lead to IRL issues.
Remember stalking (even online in a video game) is illegal in most countries and keeping safe is more of a priority than warcraft logs and getting accepting into some fussy min maxing guild!
But why is it suffering, if you just have to sign up manually vs having to toggle and then itâs freeplay with your data for everyone? O.o Trust me, with A.I. on the rise as an open-source thing, you will soon think similarly as me regarding being selective to provide data. OP also shows, that there are weirdos out there (Even in wow). Additionally, some of the third party stuff ruins some of blizzardâs game design decisions, if they become meta aswell, because it can control how people play the game (see warcraft logs). Blizzard should control these more, so they can design the game to harmonize with them.
Because you are also limiting our options just because of some beeps that should be punished. So you not only punish them (who will find ways to track you anyway if you dont touch them specifically) but also us who have done nothing wrong. Flawless logic.
I will not because i fully know what data i make public.
Me too, and now what? What if a trusted company has a data leak all of the sudden? We live in a very dangerous age imo regarding information. Itâs not as easy as you think sadly, but I wish it was. Nowadays itâs more important than ever to stay safe due to A.I. etc being on the rise. WoW is not really a big problem anyway, but still, we should have to be able to use raiderio for example without consenting to have other services get our player data. You may feel differently than me, but I come from more of a technological background, and I am very wary with those things, and so should everyone else be nowadays ^^
Regarding Opâs issue, the fact it works like that currently, gives other people simply control over how we play the game. This is the thing. The status quo has huge downsides.
I think blizzard is actually doing a really good job currently compared to other companies, but this one detail is an oversight.
So what? That can ALWAYS happen. If you dont want that then dont share your info with absolutely anybody in this world. Like what even is this argument? If such a leak happens then Blizzard has to deal with the legal consequences. Simple as.
It very much is. Youre turning a mouse into an elephant.
Its amusing how you assume youre above me in any shape or form. Try again in 50 years.
Iâm not at all bro, but times are changing rapidly, insane tech becomes more and more easily accessible, and you should simply stay safe out there my dude And blizzard needs to adapt too and provide better security always, but again, they are doing a good job in the end comparatively. Simply my ask is to have more control over my player data, if I wanna use stuff like raiderio. Thatâs not much to ask ^^
Yeah times change. So? Not putting all your info online is not a brand new concept. Neither are potential data leaks. And Blizzard doesnt need to provide better security as of now. The only way your irl info leaks is if they do have infact a data breach.
You already have that.
Yeah bro, I agree with you mostly, no point argueing. You seem to understand what I mean, but donât see it as much of an issue, which is fine. I also donât think itâs the end of the world, but these days, the AI stuff is really creepy just in general, and specifically regarding this thread, OP having to opt out from services like that is also not rly nice imo ^^ I think for many reasons including the ones I mentionned, and the bad experiences from OP, it could need some change, but ofc, itâs not that big of a deal in the end anyway. Wish you an amazing night dude, and letâs agree to disagree here, because you also had valid points
I dont mind opting out, and i will do so once i get home but the problem with people having all my characters in their friends list remains.
i really think instead of fighting semantics we can focus on the simple issue of WoW Friend List should ask the other person for permission before them successfully being added as a friend. Friendship is not onesided concept too.
all of your alts start with ale ppl dont even need check pvp to figure that out lmao
Do you know, if those character names change, if you buy a namechange? Quite expensive thoâŚ
im not gonna change my character names im not that desperate and its not that serious I mostly wanted to shine some light on a issue the design obviously has.
If someone already has your character on their friends list. Naming changing does nothing. Your still in that persons friends list now only with a new name.
If you really want to shake someone off. You have to either delete your character for long enough i think so your name drops off their friends list⌠Or faction change your character ^^â Argent dawn knows a thing or two about this. Weâve got kind of a stalking problem when it comes to this.
Disagree with someones rp or opinion over here and word spreads around. People go to long lengths to make your life miserable and freeze you and every character you have out of the rp community.
But people still find out who you are. By comparing your achievements and pet collections to any new character they suspect is you. Some people have even developed their own data bases and addons for just this purpose.
