It is good for dead realms. They have suffered for years now.
I’m indifferent to the change myself but I’m not one to try and make gold. Seems to be the time to cash in on herb/ore etc is the start of expansions when everyone needs materials.
I have found DF to be a complete drain of my gold though on the whole. In the past just playing the game kept me in gold, this expansion I’ve just from haemorrhaged gold and struggle to keep at the same level. It just goes down.
Forget herbing/mining, I would say even forget professions all together. Unless you have maxed out profession - you will have a bad time. For example alchemy - Phial of tepid versatility - materials to make a single craft cost 170-180g (makes 2 Phials), and 3star one cost 45g in AH. You need to max-out profession to make at least some profit out of it (multicraft/resourses).
I like enchanting, since I can just DE my epics for 300-600gold (which I get a lot from m+, it covers a lot of expenses).
Though most of my gold comes from doing call to arms tank/healer for random normal/heroic dungeon. Bag contains 900g+1to4 runes (1700g each), dungeon takes 10mins to run with a geared character. A single run can give you 7500g if you get 4 runes (just fish when they pop-up and queue as tank/healer).
If you have alts - dragon riding quests will give you more gold. 500g for a single race, so you do 6 races 2 times a week on one alt - that’s 6000 gold for 12 races. Not a lot, but enough to cover expenses for repairs/flasks.
I think that is because a lot of people dropped their professions for gathering ones, as they found the new system overcomplicated. If a lot of players do that on a number of servers you suddenly find yourself in a lot of supply, and not much demand. People finding work orders confusing and convoluted also makes things worse, as there are less wanting to interract with it.
A day before the release of the raid tier I farmed around 2k glowspores on my alt, and I have seen many others do the same. On raid release day this caused the supply to go up from 600k on the market to 3 million, and it crashed the prices because a lot of others were banking on the prices going up as demand will be high.
If Blizzard tackled the multiboxing and bot problem the devaluing of materials wouldn’t be so harsh, but in the meantime we have to rely on other sources of gold making through the auction house like crafting which can maintain value depending on the cost of the materials and some times it can be flipped by buying cheap, crafting and selling for profit, we just have to improve crafting and offer other products other than just the over devalued materials.
I for example craft pets or ammo and get some gold through that.
I think making it EU wide is better than clumping more dying realms together. This is a long term fix, as opposed to connecting realms is usually just a short term fix. It’s not stopped populations migrating to the big realms. Those connected realms often still end up on low populations overall. So they need to remove some of the down sides of being on a less populated realm.
I do world quests on 5 toons a week. Each toon on Wednesdays gets about 9k + dragon races at 500g/purse and on Saturdays they get about 4-6k + dragon races at 500g/purse.
