Gunslinger is closest I’d say. Just like hunter it has three DPS specs and has a DOT spec for old Survival vibes. Not mobile in the same way as a wow hunter, but you can roll around cover for faux mobility.
Commando has similar ranged DPS specs, but their resource system works differently as you regenerate your resource more slowly the less of it you have, whereas gunslinger has energy similar to a rogue. Sample both to 30 or so and see which you prefer. It doesn’t take a huge amount of time to hit 30 if you spam heroic weeklies (quests for “elite areas”, they can be soloed but you must be careful) and then progress your story when they’re all done.
I picked up SWTOR again recently after a huge break and even though I’m on FTP I’ve managed to hit level 35 and I’m only just out of Coruscant the second Republic zone thanks to these weeklies. They also give you great loot as well and keep you geared as you level!
Have fun! Getting into raiding at this point will be a slog, but if you just want solo story play until SL SWTOR is great if you haven’t done some class stories before, it’s what I’m doing!
You do have to play to 30-40 to get a feel for a class though as unlike WoW you won’t unlock your specs fullish core toolkit until around this range and it properly fills out at about level 58 in terms of having all your rotation skills.
Quick tip, if you’re approaching 20 and don’t have credits for a mount (10k) just queue a random warzone and play it through. You get loot boxes for participating and the loot is scaled to the bare bones max level. You won’t be able to use it but you can sell it for absurd credits. I got a double bladed lightsaber from my first one and sold it for a 23000 credits, totally cushions you money wise in the early game, ensuring you have enough to buy a mount, gear and also expand your inventory slots using credits.
Playing with 1 other person is also a lot of fun. I’ve replayed 6 of the 8 class stories with a friend. Both with a different class.
He never played it before, so I’m just going to tag along through the expansion stories.
It’s a real shame they made it almost impossible to play together since SoR. With seperate instances etc.
Agreed. I have no formal play partner but I’ve found an additional person when doing most weeklies, or running them in a chain, and it’s much quicker and fun.
I was surprised but how many other players I’ve come across tbh. I expected the game to be a desert. It’s not bustling by any stretch compared to WoW but I’ve run into a fair amount of players levelling, certainly enough to group to speed up heroic zones.
Powertech is meleerange tank class. Commandos mirror class is Mercenary.
Free-to-play model has lot of restrictions. I pay sub myself but if someone wants to be cheap out a bit, all they gotta do is purchase something worth of 5 euro to get preferred status, that has much less limitations.
I played for many years swtor all kind of class race and spec imho TS go bounty hunter mercenary arsenal spec huge single and aoe damage some flying and nuking aoe, a power who makes you immune to crowd control for like ten seconds you just blast anything and anyone with great fun and some disengage bounty hunter style that make you flying leap back a huge distance some crowd control stun like when they close in so many cool ability it would be a shame and the scenario of the great hunt and bounty hunter partner are realy cool especially Gault, you’ll know what i meant if you try.
Republic side take a commando you may have to watch your energy like gauge but unlike the sniper and one of the smugler spec you don’t have to roll and stick to an area element to deliver the carnage , the trooper/commando scenario is also kind of shady and it will make you see what the republic is truely made of and have some questionable choice and your CO is well you will see if you try it.
I plan to return when can completely finish our betrayal and join the other faction i especially await that on my fallen/dark Jedi, i won’t tell more for now.
SW:ToR with all of its flaws are still awesome
Worth a shot, that F2P isn’t an issue really, you could enjoy the game + there is that nifty “refer a friend” to give someone 7day of sub who used your ref link and tons of perks…
been playing for a long time, and if you want to play republic, the trooper and smuggler stories are the most fun, both jedi classes are a bit more boring imo.
Trooper is your typical “special forces” military story, while smuggler is more of a freelancer style.
Empire side, imperial agent has the best story, but bounty hunter is fun and being sith is always interesting.
Can’t answer if there is any other hunter like class in that game, I’m just playing trough all classes and completing the storylines because they are awesome. I’m at 2/8 completed, so I’m yet to find out about the other classes. It’s a really fun game to play when you don’t have anything to do in WoW-especially after weekly mount runs.
What I found really enjoyable, was the fact that you could play dark side republic or light side sith. I’ve leveled maybe 40 characters just to see the different options.
I’ve been playing SWTOR since launch. I recommend leveling the Imperial Agent with Sniper specialization (the other spec, Operative, is basically a Rogue). The story is really good and playing this class is fun.
The Republic version is the Smuggler - Gunslinger specialization, but the gameplay isn’t as much fun as playing the Sniper. The story on the other hand is hilarious.
