Anyone upgrade from Ryzen 1700x to 3700x or 3800x? Terrible fps, please help

What do you mean by that? Only at the minimum? The CPU automatically boosts under load.

Hey there,

I did 4 tests:
Overclocking - Addons off/addons on, mythic+ Mechagon Junkyard
No overclocking at all - addons off/on, mythic+ mechagon Junkyard.

Just sitting afk at the entrance, with people next to me, with the settings in my OP - I sit at 55-64 frames.

In combat, I have several screenshots (which I can’t post links to here) for sub 45 fps.

Not the best words I have chosen, I meant it’s not overclocked. Sorry.

Might be something that is somehow forcing your frame rate to be lower?

Vertical sync is off?

under advanced in the menu, is the foreground FPS box ticked off and locked at something?

Please dude, I’ve done copious amounts of testing of the settings, if I went as far as to remove overclocking and addons you can be sure I checked the advanced tab.

Got to ask if it’s not specifically been stated.

There is no magic switch you can flip.
Believe it or not, your CPU is the bottleneck here.

You can post links using the ā€œpreformattedā€ option. As for FPS it’s quite normal for high CPU-action scene. To have some more FPS you would have to have a more efficient CPU (but still in edge case scenarios the FPS will drop).

Like Ryzen 5 3500X or i5-9400F (both 6-core) with Vega 64 get 105-115 FPS while in the Great Seal in Dazar’alor at 1080p mode 7. It drops to ~65 FPS while in mass-combat, or 55 FPS in Legion Dalaran, while having ~230 FPS in oldest zones. And that’s all 1% low FPS, not averages.

Hey dude, cheers for the reply.

On my current rig - with my addons on, I am currently sitting at around 86-90 frames in Great Seal. There’s maybe 20-30 players around me.

My biggest gripe is that, in raids, I get 80+ fps, very stable. Dungeons and Mythic+ are consistently tanking my FPS to its bare minimum each time.

Check with MSI Afterburner what’s your 1%/0.1% low FPS in both scenarios. Raids may have similar low FPS and higher average. Aside of that the FPS difference is the CPU - first gen Ryzen vs current ones.

I spoke to the guy that actually made the benchmark videos for WoW and Ryzen chips - he’s been very helpful.

He said it’s a combination of using Zen1 (specifically bad for WoW) and Corsair Vengeance Ram.

He outlined that the Ram I am using won’t see the same mega boosts going from 2133mhz -> 3200mhz. as I would if I had more supported ram for my board.

I’ve ordered Ballistix 16gb 3200mhz and a 3800x chip and will update people on the changes once I installed them.

That should be a noticeable improvement.

So you are going to replace 3200Mhz DDR4 with 3200Mhz DDR4, just from a different brand?
That literally makes no sense (if same CL of course).
If your RAM was running fine at 3200Mhz, the new RAM will not make a difference in performance.

The new CPU will though.
So what i recommend is that you replace the CPU first, check the FPS.
Then replace the RAM if you really must do so and check the FPS again.
I bet you will not see an improvement from the RAM.
Rather save that money and put it toward a new GPU.
