Isn’t it just a matter of presetting the ecpression? The 6.0 redo, allowed them to fix any expresion tehy wanted.
The retrofit was done then… it should be easy to give expression sliders. You just have to go through each face one by one and determine whaat each expression you can choose looks like, then also have the person able to change that expression when logged in by a /emote
Age slidersi s pretty much the same thing, they’d have to go through each face, and either add age lines or remove them (on the old faces)… Id on’t htink retrofitting is needed there.
Body sliders is what I’m not sure, the gear fitting thing is what others are highlighting is the worklaod, but it’s worth it, surely theyd o that for every new race shape out there, but hta’ts not the biggest job.
Or at least I don’t know if it is. It seemed creating new rigs for Kul’tiran was a far bigger job than doing amor for say Nightborne who were just skinny night elves and I would have to believe the same is for doing Amani/Drakkari type trolls.
I assume Zandlaari trolls use the night elf gear, apart form the robe legs.?
The re-rigging in 6.0 allows them to do a lot more, I’m just not sure what, cos I don’t fully understand it.
Make WoW moddable and within the span of 1 week if not less you’ll get ALL these and more.
While I wish WoW would be moddable, I know the limitations exist so people don’t exploit stuff.
But saying it’s difficult to add this makes no sense, and if you want to go but we don’t want clipping/issues route I will simply point you to the already existing EXTREME clipping/silly issues existing in WoW.
No it isn’t, if a game isn’t designed to have these sliders putting them in is easy for the visual side but everything else isn’t and can cause major problems. It’s not just visual.
They were redoing character models from scratch with it. So it was easier to do that becasue they could already design the models with this in mind. Sliders for expression are doable but would add another layer of calculations for animations. And you need to create system to do that, UI to do that.
Age sliders need more work, either introduce more bones to wrinkle your character(could be very bad for performance). They could also make second set of old face textures and give slider to regulate level of blending young and old. The problem would be that there are already faces with various age look.
Body sliders, old armor is mostly painted on so it fits on any body but on bigger ones might stretch akwardly. All robes, pants, boots and gloves from up to Pandaria were built in the character models. Shoulder pads and belt buckles have just one or two models and they are scaled up or down for various races. Helmets have to be designed for every head. With Nightborne, they have haed the same size as Night Elves so they didn’t have to make new ones.
With newer armors it’s more complicated because they make a lot of custom geosets as a collection and they have to make a version fitting every unique body. This system pretty much prevents body sliders.
Idk if it is difficult to do or not.
Always liked that many armour and weapons look unique but that is prob peak of my enjoyment in designing my character - transmog is the better system since it was implemented and it does not really go so in-depth.
Worlds all filled with stuff all shapes and sizes . What you listed are key mechanics I expect from any good modern RPG today. Wow has been making progress here gradually, I suppose this has been good anyway compared to other 15+yr RPGs I know and content they add.
They striking a balance for introducing all content and pretty successfully for a long time. I think it can happen. Wonder myself how much time/money it takes as I always hoped for these kind of improvements also.
Must be more to it but I never heard from official source, maybe it heavily conflicts and would require “engine overhaul/ tech stuff/specific expertise” I don’t know but my best guess is that alot of staff/player over the years that suggest this. Other, this is something they can always improve overtime, maybe the stable choice.
