Arenas with cosmetic rewards would be the best.
It’s really simple, all you need are cosmetic rewards and then arenas are a great idea.

even if i would like it, cuz arena was the main reason why i played wow.
but because of the “classic core” gameplay wise, it wouldnt make sense to have rated arena here
the comp will be very one sided alone rogue preperation is too powerful in classic for example
and if u nerf/ buff some classes only because of arena it would cause even more balance issues, and we will end up in a “tbc” designe
Just add a 1v1 open world arena event instead where you get coins that you can use for Ab/Wsg rep
The peak of WoW’s popularity was WotLK.
Get your facts straight
Or the beginning of the end.
Depends on how you look at it I guess.
It was its Downfall.
Yes, nothing speaks downfall like 12 or 13 million active subscriptions.
Peak of WoW was ~10 milions which was going down with release of Fall of Lich King patch.
You know you can just google it and find out that you’re wrong, yes? No need to try to push some fake number to try to prove a point.
Check google for “highest number of active subscriptions wow” and the result shows up. 12 million. 2010. WotLK.
This attitude is so strange and freakish.
If you don’t have to play it, why not? These zoomers won’t care about parsing on dragons anymore if you add arena ratings? That’s just such a strange and peculiar way to relate to video games…
I personally would never play a single game of SoD arena, but if there is people who want to I don’t see why you can’t abide them… Even just Dueling tournaments have garnered seemingly massive audiences on streaming classic.
Anyway, no matter how bad it would be, nothing they could possibly add would be worse than the state of BGs phase 1 which they even defended.
Also “it’s blatantly unbalanced”; in actuality most computer games are, even turn-based symmetrical boardgames like Chess has the white problem afaik. And TBC was also unbalanced as hell, there were people getting 3k rating just queuing 2 rogues but you see literally nobody actually cared and still found ways to have fun queuing arenas.
But this is just an opinion, I personally would disagree, like they added arenas in TBC when Rogues get Shadowstep and Cloak of Shadows and they are OP in vanilla? But still the fact is we will never know because there are no arenas in the game. Also it’s indeed a part of the gameplay of these types of games to argue and figure out what is truly OP and what is not.
Relax, they were pretty clear that arenas won’t be a part of Sod .
I am all for it. Wont be balanced and it was never been balanced in any wow itteration. I dont understand why someone who dont like arena and wont play is against it. As long as it have own gear that is better for pvp, but worse for pve and as long as pve gear is better for pve and worse than the pvp one for pvp its all good . U dont like u dont play, simple. Its kinda complicated and to work for vanilla they really have to balance many abilities to work differently in pvp or you risk to make pve worse if balance for both combined and if u dont balance at all we have 4 classes in there lol.
No matter what they do it will never be perfect, but they have a lot of work to do if this is going to be a thing.
I agree with you, it was always unbalnced and it was that way even when they tried realy hard to balance it for years.
Adding arena to SOD will force the deves to balance around arena just like they did sence TBC.
It will be another thing that people will cry about and another thing that the devs will take in account when balancing.
They will fail that job and take out the fun alot of abilities on the way outside arenas.
After 20 years we all know where the devs strength and weakness. Arena is on the weak part.
The only way i can see it work in SOD without runing the fun of new abilities is if its only for fun with Zero rewards, no mount no nothing pure ownage of other players.
TLdr: you know who you working with and you know how it will be implemented and the mess it will create.
I doubt that you’ve been playing for more than 5. If you had, you wouldn’t say what you just said there.
Also, achieving balance is nowhere near what we have now. Adding arenas wouldn’t add that much to that existing issue. Classes are overly unbalanced atm, and adding arenas wouldn’t make them “super hyper” unbalanced, the difference wouldn’t be noticeable, considering how unbalanced they already are.
And you think people wouldn’t complain, if this was the case? Then CLEARLY you haven’t been playing for that long.
I been playing for long enough to know that arenas will rune the fun in PVE.
If they will add arenas, devs will balance around it. We all have seen what happens when balance around it.
It takes all the fun from PVE and BGs.
There is no balance now but if arenas will be add there will be no fun inbthe new abilities.
Yeah, and try to get flying mounts too. Try to attract more retail players so they can be a nuisance to some of the classic older players, giving us a chance to get rid of the classic player base. Because we need more retail people, so they can be difficult with other players. We also need the social aspect to disappear because that is what the retail players want. They need to make it as close to retail as possible so they can feel at home.
While we’re at it, why not make it so you can’t do party premades in BLOODISH STV? Many who don’t have a group play solo, and it’s always challenging to go against premade parties. Let’s also introduce maps from retail, and can we get hunters with two pets? Give warriors and paladins nerfs too; they are too powerful. And since we’re already there, can you make Shadow Priests a lot stronger and also buff druids, please
Yes, and you’ll see that peak of active subs was in mid Wotlk and started to falling down. You’re just Wrathbaby and cant understand that Wotlk was garbage.
I too was a Wrathbaby, but after playing the TBC classic and being able to compare it to the Wotlk classic, I left Wotlk due to how poor the expansion is compared to its predecessor.
yeah, but they didnt had a 30 sec sap, and double blind
Would be cool. Only issue is i have never seen wow that much unbalanced. And i played since BC. The real one not the classic thing.
Arena would just force everyone to go fotm even more than now. Elitism is (imo) a massive issue with SoD, arena would just make it even worse.
That is a community problem, there is nothing blizzard can do against it. They cant force players to play a specific way.
