Argent Archives bugging out?

This has always been a major selling point of AA for me, rather than something like a realm wiki or (like you said) a blog, and I’m glad that’s going to remain the focus.

Myeah, the Archives are one of the great RP assets we have as a realm, and I think a lot of people take it for granted until such instances where it is not operational (I.E. right now), especially considering it is a volunteer effort.

I think some people would get behind some sort of lowkey funding, but if you do that, I advice against “donate x, get y” as benefits. That’ll perpetuate a spiral towards someone’s character’s personal website or blog, as you referenced.

We largely agree (any suggestions of offering a subscription based “Ad-Free” AA were said in jest, I promise…). If any money was involved it would most likely be entirely charitable - but again, it’s an ongoing discussion at this time, and in its early stages.

AA is great and amazing and I’m grateful for the staff who run it. A shame it’s so buggy at times and hopefully a fix can be found!

It’s honestly a testiment of dedication that the AA is still around in 2020. Cheers to the volunteers for keeping the old girl breathing. :metal:

I absolutely love Argent Archives as a site, as I know many people do, despite some of the inconvenient parts. It’s a pillar of ADs community and I’d love to support it more than just in words; so it’s really good to hear from you admins that it’ll keep going <3
much love

Thanks for the update friend, I noticed some issues with it recently and I wondered if it was my internet browser’s fault or something.

I’m glad to see this thread made and even better to hear from the staff themselves  as someone who likes to browse it oftenly I suspected there was a bit of trouble going on. Hopefully it’s not been from malicious sources.

I was just discussing the matter of charitable donations with someone the other day, that given the instability period where we both tried to browse it and update our profiles we remembered it was strictly volunteer-based and no donation page was available AFAIK.

If there is a donation page… :eyes: please link. I think a good portion of the community would not be opposed such a thing, but quite the contrary be more than willing to donate to such a cause.

I love the Argen Archives… it provides the RP community with lots of content since many many years and I pains my heart to see it like this. I really hope you can fix it! Like Ventheas said, if there is a donation page, let us know!

I can point you to a great many Enjins where people offered to fund the provided service which instead just quietly died out because no one ultimately did.

That was more so targetted at AA and helping with it, the last time it was brought up.

Of course if I had known of the others or anything else come up, I’d have seen what I could of done to help.

I wouldn’t want AA to be reliant on external donations – those wells are notorious for drying up.

No one’s saying it should be, but it could be an optional thing if people want. Right now there is no channel for the people that want.

And right now it also is operational without being reliant on external donations.

The other reason we’re wary of any money changing hands. Right now the AA is entirely funded by one incredibly generous person, and has been for some time. It’s incredibly unlikely the AA can be run for less than it currently is, and almost guaranteed to go the other way. It’s not prohibitively expensive at the moment, but the brief look we did have at some more robust hosting solutions would more than quadruple that cost. If the only way that can be done is by relying on public support, there’s quite a risk!

A good example of this:

Consider the enormous audience a site like this has, compared to the very limited scope the AA has.

They currently have 3 Patreons.

Now that’s probably not the full story of their funding. I know there was a kickstarter or two in the past (they seem to average around 10% of their targeted goals, these being anywhere between £1500 and £4000). But it does give you some idea of what we’re looking at.

How much does it cost to host on enjin? I know SWTOR and ESO have dedicated RP forums/archives for this sort of thing

Enjin are s**t IMO. I’d personally build a website from the ground up made bespoke for Argent Archives… but I do understand that takes time and money.

I still check in every day. (When I can) And most my friends use it too. Couldn’t imagine life without it!

I am also among the massive nerds who loves reading AA every day – often multiple times.

Only multiple times?
