Lol trademark? Had no idea. For what if I may ask?
It’s a limited company and cinema chain.
I’ll be damned. They have a good taste in names i guess
And soon it will also be a registered trade mark for a brand of swimwear.

As for the banning of the name, “Niggles”, it’s not the first time it’s happened and likely won’t be the last. Given how many times I’ve seen it happen over the years I’m surprised that the word hasn’t been added to Blizzard’s naughty list.
I can still use the name on some realms so it’s not added yet, I haven’t logged in on one though. I thought they were supposed to add a banned name to the list you can’t use as well.
best make your “night” names while you can. knight probably already blacklisted.
It’s a genuine word, so I don’t see why it’s bannable. You also can’t name your Character White or Black either.
I don’t enjoy them continuously restricting all these words because one person in a million may take them as offensive, when they’re just genuine words, that have absolutely no malice behind them.
You are talking about the game that ironically calls “black” mature language, like it’s a vulgar offense or something.
“Niggles” is really a case where people just go bonkers and Blizzard seems to decide based on a few people’s crazed perceptions. I mean, we’re not even talking about British cigarette buds here. So many words would be forbidden if we went by just some people’s weird mental associations.
I mean, can you call your character “Juicebox” or would that be considered antisemitic?
And when will the ‘colonizer club’ start demanding that Niger(ia) change their country’s name?
Why are people such boobs?
I assume someone has been looking at Urban Dictionary, the last 2 definitions on page 1 could be the reason why it got banned.
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=niggle
Using Urban dictionary for such would be cringy, since slang can pretty much co-opt everything for some edgy-vulgar teenager speech.
Generally, even, dictionaries often do not really define correct meaning of words - that’s the job of etymology - but merely document the popular use and development of language. This creates a false authority feedback because then an institution parrots ignorant use of language.
Just think of how the word “troll”, meaning someone deriving pleasure from pushing someone else’s buttons, turned into almost its complete opposite through intellectual laziness. Does the original meaning even have a representation anymore?
Development of language can be a good indicator of the development of a society, including marking its overall decay.

says the one named brownie
Excuse me, I see your character is slightly coloured and your name appears to be a way to circumvent a slur such as ‘brownie’ - consider yourself flagged.

And what’s the problem with that exactly? Do you blame non native speakers for thinking the name sounds racist because they don’t know an obscure word and instead associate it with the most similar word that they know?
Maybe you didn’t consider for a single second how non English speakers would react, or simply don’t care.
I suspect that it never will be since it’s not actually an offensive word. It’s just one people report and then GMs uphold the bans.
Language is changing all the time, so the original meaning of words and sentences often gets replaced.
Not to mention where those using it come from; I remember an article about Will Smith cd Big Willy Style: Obviously Will Smith meant something else with this but it changed meaning as the crossed the pond.
We can only try to understand the how and why, when some words gets changed.
I am still getting used to the way the word cringe is being used, it is everywhere and in context I wouldn’t have seen it before.
Yeah words change, in fact several words that are considered vulgar nowadays used to mean donkey, rooster, or simply a pet name for “Richard”.
People use it as a noun. I believe the proper term would be “cringeworthy”, but people don’t like long words.
Yep gms seem to have free reign throwing forced name changes at people.
I have had stupid but non offensive names before as well and got forced to change, like dhiarrhea wich is a proper medical term and some far more innocent names as well. Also i think the system automaticly doesnt allow certain words in names. I am not 100% sure and i cant check because i am not at home atm so i cant acces the game. But i thought some words like king are appearently not allowed in your name either and thus are blocked automaticly
