much like many people already mention, best mount is the one that matches your mog / lore / RP

I have no wish to spend an obscene amount of gold, or real money, just to get a mount…

I have it, and it’s def my main one for undeads and/or DKs.
Merciless gladiators netherwing is probably the most cool mount in the game.
Felsaber obviously, the greatest gift from the greatest character.
Also quite fond of the Priestess’ Moonsaber.
None of those are good looking mounts.
Grand Griffon, the regular one without armor.
Invincible is, was and will be the best till Blizzard will allow players to turn into fruit bats

It is just the most overrated mount ever.
Both must go hand in hand ! Mog around mount or pick mount based on mog !

What patriotism? The fact that I’m on the Alliance side is only because there is no other choice in the game.
It is even more clear when I go to the char creation screen, I see this:

I really like the mechagnome racial mount. Too bad can’t use it as a hordie

The rarest is ofc the spectral tiger as it is pretty much unobtainable.
The best on the other hand depends on what you like and what goes well with your char. For me its something like this:
Warrior - Any “Prestigious” or “Vicious” mount.
Paladin - The paladin Class mount and/or Tyrael’s Charger.
Death Knight - Rivendare’s Charger and/or the ICC Achi bonedragon.
Shaman - The shaman Class mount!
Hunter - Any beast mount that matches your pet =)
Demon Hunter: Felsaber and/or any other felgreen mount.
Druid (If you use mounts on them) - Fey Dragon or Emerald Drake.
Rogue - Ratstallion and/or their class mount.
Monk - Shado-Pan Tigers and/or any Cloud Serpent.
Priest - Voidtalon, Raven Lord or Class Mount.
Mage - Any mount that matches your specc =)
Warlock - Any of their own summoned steeds!
For a mechagnome Model W - Mechaspider on ground, rustbolt resistor/ AU 21X for flying.
Smoldering Emberwrym, Dark Irons with heritage mog.
It’s all about textures and a fitting theme
