It would be easy to mute these sites if their community didn’t uphold witch hunting and orchestrated cancel culture.
From that point on is where it spans an uncomfortable amount of discussing subjects and morals. And that’s a can of worms I do not want to open nor have the brain capacity to tolerate.
Yea please no more innovations, at least for some time. You have low key one of the most interesting fictional universes, just take care of it for once and we’re good
Depends on the execution. Not sure if people trust blizz execution all that much. But we’ll see how Shadowlands go on. It’s the 1st expansion that should have all the necessary story elements in the game, and not thrown all over the other media.
People did not trust that blizz can deliver a high quality of execution when dealing with sensitve subjects. And they ended up being right, with the end result being what perceived as one of, if not the worst expansion.
Not sure there are stats. Some like the fantasy of horde being an underdog faction or something. Some like subversion that orcs are not 1-dimentionally evil (in Warcraft 3). Many people, many opinions.
Maybe we should promote alternative ideas to the devs? I’ve heard Ion supposedly reads the stuff sent to him. But rarely responds.
Story-tellers? Watch their history of Thrall panel, you’ll see some… things there.
I mean, at least some of them think that this is the right thing to tell such stories.
I do not use twitter much, but I did not see much cheering when it comes to stories of BfA on /r/wow and r/warcraftlore

if i was the creative director i’d most likely vote for a full rework of the lore it’s a terrible inconsistent mess they didn’t do them selves any favours by retcon’ing their lore books too
I don’t think that’s the issue for most people to be honest. The issue is that Blizzard is known to enforce extremes. They’d likely do a 180 on character’s personality by trying to make them “not always good”. They simply don’t seem to care about the long-term character development anymore. The character’s personality is always twisted to what the current narrative needs it to be. There’s no logic or continuity. But then again, continuity serves to enhance the story, not tie the hands of the creators, or something like that…
I feel like they just make and turn characters like that because it sells somehow.
Its for marketing purposes.
Brand name used to sell a lot of stuff just by itself. Diablo 3 and even reforged worked just fine commercially, because of the “blizzard” logo. I saw plently of people who are kind of gamers but play only blizz games.
However, that seems to be less and less effective. Otherwise blizz would still stick to the “wait and see” approach instead of paying at least some attention to the feedback. But it’s still limited and rather gnarly in execution.

Thing is.
It has been proven before time and time again that a successful brand does not need to sacrifice its content just to remain trending. Even now, we have entire products, literature and documentaries that are well regarded whilst being immersed in highly controversial topics today. If there weren’t any fame towards these things because of trend, they would have died out ages ago.
The fact that Blizzard has to reinvent their sense of creativity to appeal to these modern trends immediately details a connection between worlds in the worst way possible.
Fantasy in itself is a literal definition of disconnecting from reality. Or it should be. It is to the point that Fantasy is so disconnected from the affairs of real-life because it offers a new perspective where you would not be expected to be judged or dissonant because of what you want and like to see. Therefore it is confusing when we see this happen deeply in games rather than at maximum touching upon them, because it is trying to bridge the disconnection when it shouldn’t have been the case.
It’s not a fun time at all when the mystery and inspiration of the genre becomes more enamoured in the application of real-life issues simply because the prime objective of engaging in it is to get away from those said issues in the first place.
Their whole take on “outside forces and the universe” completely ruined everything.
Titans, Old Gods, Demons, all got ruined.
Most of the people that whine about the lore on Reddit or Twitter just complain about Sylvanas. That’s all.
When it comes to story there are discussions of some specific characters or events too. /r/wow is way more general, so it’s usually more meme-oriented with things like that.
More detailed stuff could be found on warcraftlore, but it also has it’s problems. I remember chatting with a person about Stasia Fallshadow, where would she be in the Shadowlands, how could she react if she sees Valeera who killed her, or how could Valeera react, etc.
And most people do not really care about a random comic character, but to me it was a lesson, that in a way no character or place is too small or not relevant, and who knows if for someone that spicific line or an atmosphere just made something / someone rather special. But I digress.
Complaining about Sylvanas happens, but the way that character was handled kind of makes it expected IMO.
Titans, Old Gods, Demons, all got ruined.
And here I have to agree. /sadface
