Before Loreology deleted his twitter because of all the doxing, he ruled that the Twilight Highlands was originally known as Northeron, named after the mountain range. The Wildhammers didn’t name their land in honour of the Twilight’s Hammer.

Why something is called the way it is called nowadays hardly matters. It’s been called that way for an in-game decade. That may not seem long through the lense of lore and history, but it’s quite long in terms of personal experience. I’m guessing rumours would pertain to how things are called, not how they used to be called.
