Can GCD (Global Cooldowns) be removed already?

100% this. Different example from Destiny 1 and 2. Every time you load into a different zone or acitvity you get kicked out of your character menus to prevent loss of items and such from your inventory and quest tab.

Such thinks are just necessary to keep the game running, no matter if annoying or not.

Could you imagine not having a GCD?
How many times would you be able to smash non CD abilities?
The game would completely break down. The servers would buckle imediatly.

It’s not possible to have this kind of game without GCD or animation lock. It’s too much load for the servers to handle that many inputs at once. Not to mention it would completely break the balance of the game.
There are people who can press things many times in one second. It would be insanity. 1 shots all over, insane lag and crashing servers.
I almost wish we could have it for a day just so you could see the nonsense this suggestion is.

Energy classes aren’t really GCD-locked. Their lockout comes from energy regen. If you use every GCD you’ll come to the point where you have to wait for energy.

On Feral (not sure if on rogue as well) it even goes that far that even if you could use your Ferocious Bite, you should wait for more energy to do more damage.

if gcd gets removed then people will likely turn their entire rotation into a single macro

These posts are getting funnier by the day. First people call for removing all damage spells from healers (because screw holy paladins and mistweaver monks I guess) and now people forget that haste is a thing you can stack.

I’m starting to understand why blizzard doesn’t listen to their player base.

I would like to see some “realism” and have abilities of different schools off shared gcd. Like instant fire/ice/arcane spells should trigger gcd for their respectful spells so you could cast fireblast frostnova and blink within 0.1 sec of each other. Think of it being left or right hand gestures or snapping your fingers. Channeled skills however require casting a spell so you can’t cast anything else between channeling other schools.

Same with warriors, you should be able to do left hand attacks be it weapon melee, and shield related skills like slam should be off hand attacks triggering their “other hand” gcd.
Unless it’s a whirlwind cleave that makes your char spin 360, making all skills go on cd.

Hunters forexample should be able to use disengage and speed buffs off gcd, since those use only their mouth to shout and legs to run, while the hands are firing your gun.
Pet kill command should also belong in a “mouth spell” school since you simply command your pet to attack a target, logically. Unless it’s some improved version where your pet is smart enough to recognise your hand gestures, in which case you could use kill command or other pets own abilities while being silenced.

This kinda logical design would be very cool. I clapped.

This is sort of how GCD’s function in FF14. But in return they have a longer GCD.

Happens sometimes for me.

Not at all. The GCD is on your side, or even worse starts when the server receives your message, so if you did not receive an event as quickly as another player with smaller latency, and/or simply were slower to react, the GCD is YOURS and starts when YOU press the button (or when the server has received your previous message).

Imagine the server generates an event, “Mob begins casting” at time T.

Player A has 100ms latency. Player A sees the message at T+100. presses “kick” and the server receives and registers the kick at T+200.

Player B has 200ms latency, sees the message at T+200, presses “kick” and the server receives the kick at T+400, but of course it is already 200ms too late.

Then another mob “begins casting” at T+300.

Player A receives the event at T+400, but he is in GCD from the “kick” he did at T+100, so he has to wait to kick again at T+100+1000 = T+1100 (GCD = 1000)… Presses kick and the server receives his kick at T+1200.

Player B receives the same event at T+500, and has to wait for HIS GCD to end at T+200+1000 = T+1200. Presses “kick” and his kick arrives at the server at T+1400, which 200ms later than Player A.

The GCD does not solve the latency issues. The GCD simply stops the server from being flooded, by almost guaranteeing a maximum number of messages per second to be processed. If you ever had to program a client/server system, messages/sec is probably the number one determinant for feasibility and sizing.

The GCD also prevents multi-spell macros.

coz

Look at games with no GCD and you will notice that almost every ability except basic auto attack is on several seconds cooldown. Besides GCDless instant spammable abilities won’t save player with the lack of game knowledge who is always getting into bad tactical position to begin with.

So many classes struggle with a game design which requires spamming 10 keybinds at once so absolutely not. It would just be a “who can press all their keys the fastest” competition and that’s really an awful idea. If anything GCD should be vastly longer

That wouldn’t work because of Warmode.

it’s a big issue for wow especially for melee classes . you need to play another mmo ona high level to understand why wow feels slower. when you just play wow it feels fine but if you mix it then playing a melee class in wow just feels slow af. other games have gcd too maybe there’s another way to fix it
