Can some one tell me who was offended by word "greenskin"?"

Probably, some of the text is changing green skin to green hide which doesn’t really change the meaning unless Blizz is going for some 500 IQ logic.

Pretty funny if GW starts kicking blizz now while they’re already in panic mode

It’d be like Warwick Davis kicking Andre the Giant really hard.

With a run up.

Stranger things happened actually…
Marvel decided to file a trademark on the term “zombie” itself in 1973, hoping to create more stories about the undead in the future and become the only place for readers to find stories about this particular type of the living dead.
Without the presence of an ongoing zombie series, Marvel lost the trademark in 1996, when a request to have it cancelled was approved. The term “zombie” was just too general of a term and Marvel’s approval for the trademark in the first place is a bit of a mystery.
One can imagine how hard it would’ve been to enforce.

It’d be like Warwick Davis kicking Andre the Giant after using one of the weakening potions from 5000 of the wow quests

Oh I know. But GW has already tried this approach in their Chapterhouse Studios court case, where they were asked to prove their copyrights. That court case was very Pyrrhic for GW, since they lost as many claims as they won.

And again with the Spots the Space Marine mess, which GW lost. It’s why they’ve gone so hard on rebranding everything in their own IP to actual copyrightable terms.

Greenskin isn’t one of those terms.

I don’t think it’s GW either BUT if there was ever a time then now would probably be the time to squeeze Blizzard for the easy to change minuscule things.

Yeah, I agree that it’s not always an “either or” thing and, you have to wonder “what is meant by STRONG?” because it can be mentally strong, physically strong, emotionally strong etc.

In the context of insanity, nothing can be irrational.

Fairly certain it’d be more of a PR suicide move by GW if they tried it. Given how long they’ve known about the Warcraft orcs being inspired by the Warhammer orks then they wouldn’t have much of a ground to stand on with a copyright claim of any sort.

The orc who works at the local post office here was clearly offended by green skins.

My animals never was offended they was angry when they bowl was empty efter they eat five times a day. I don’t remember that my fish and frog was ever offended.

Because it’s offensive against those who have green skin. But if I had green skin then being offended would be the least of my worries…

Also in fairness, GW wouldn’t have a leg to stand on at all.

  1. GW didn’t invent orcs.
  2. GW Orks are nothing like WoW Orcs. I mean the differences are astounding. I mean they look nothing alike, physically apart from being muscular and (mostly) Green skinned.
  3. GW are really not in a good place to try and take advantage of any Sexual Malfeasance related claims against Blizzard right now, their fanbase can be absolutely misogynist to a horrible degree. Their forums are…interesting places…
I actually saw that in microcosm when I happened to be in my local GW shop (I don’t actually play, but I do love some of the books). Two young lads, one of them had picked up a copy of ‘Valkia the Bloody’ and was enthusing about it to his mate “Yeah, it’s the same bloke who wrote ‘The Gildar Rift’, that was a wicked book, absolute carnage, but his characters are really believable, you’d never get a girl writing stuff like this, which is why Black Library don’t have women writers” I could see the poor shopkeeper biting his tongue, because ‘The customer is always right’ whereas I was under no such restriction. “Fun fact chaps, the Initial ‘S’ on the authors name actually stands for Sarah, she is most definitely female” “No it doesn’t” “No, it really does, I’ve known her twenty years or so now, she signed my copy of Gildar’s Rift last time we met in a muddy field in Wigan” “You’re telling me that the bloke who wrote this is a girl?” “I Wouldn’t say a ‘girl’, her son is about your age, the term is probably ‘woman’” Young lad puts back the book and starts looking at macho Space Marine models, at which point I pick up the book and take it to the counter The staff member goes, “Smooth move man, that’s the last copy we have in” “Oh I know, that’s what I came in to buy, but it is also true” "Oh yeah, I knew it was a woman writer, I just meant smooth to pull the “I Know her” card. “No, no, you misunderstand, I -do- know her, known her long before she started writing for you guys” “Oh…umm, if you’re in tomorrow, any chance I can give you my copies to get signed?” “Sure thing man, we only see each other about five times a year, but happy to oblige”. Cue one happy GW employee, and two neckbeard teenager’s whose dreams of masculinity have been challenged, and I have a book about a hideously terrifying warlord. Everyone won!

My mate Sarah found this hilarious, and on all reprints instead of saying S.P Cawkwell, the books now specifically say ‘Sarah’ .

But yeah, GW are in no place to take advantage of this current plight Blizzard face, until they clean their own house first.

Lastly. Riddle me this. Do these things sound similar. A Green Skinned muscular race, with a prognathous jaw in the males, who have a deep-seated Shamanic culture, live in harmony with the elements, but who are nonetheless warlike, with a sense of honour, and culture, who procreate in the same way as most mammalian creatures, with a male and female causing a baby, to be raised to adulthood.

And.

A race of creatures with heads so large their lower jaws hang over their upper chests, who are warlike, but have no culture as such, beyond worshipping two very vague Gods, and just hitting each other, who when they reach a conglomerate mass suddenly go on a rampage as a biological imperative without any real thought behind it, who are actually Eunuchs, because they reproduce via spores, so are really kind of…plant people…

I’d be interested to see how GW got that case to stand up in court, which I doubt they would be foolish enough to try…

WoW has tons of GW/Warhammer references in it, or things based off things directly in that universe. It’s likely, that GW/Warhammer teams reached out to Blizz if they wanted something changed and Blizz obliged as not to make a fuss over something easily changed that doesn’t particularly impact the ‘gameplay’ in the first place.

Are you serious?

Warcraft was originally supposed to be a Warhammer game.

Absolutely so. GW Orks look nothing like WoW Orcs. Unless you take ‘green skinned and muscled’ as looking alike. Trust me, if WoW Orcs looked like GW ones, they’d need a whole different graphic ‘skeleton’ .

Besides, there is still this mistaken apprehension that GW invented Orcs… They didn’t, and no, nor did Tolkien.

They’re basically sheltering so no signs of racism exist in any way-shape-or-form.

Instead of showing it in a fictional scenario and teaching you how bad it can get and how to deal with it.

It’s like the Jedi who expunged everything about the dark side, trying to make it not seem like it existed, when it finally resurfaced none had any idea how to deal with it, wiping out their cleansed society since it had no defenses against it.

Funny how that fiction actually teaches correctly.

Funny thing is that, the ORCs call the humans PIG SKINS
Seems like the blizzard failed to over look that…

Hey humans are pigs, even irl. I have seen lots of humans living in worst place than pigs.

Well, that’s discrimination or one would call that what you said racist.

Funny an in game racisms is a No-No ( especially, for non human race ) while irl it’s a pass…:joy::sweat_smile:
