Can someone help me with the Highborne/High Elf lore?

When the War of the Ancients have ended, the Highborne were still addicted to Arcane, and they were abusing powers of Moon Wells, trying to make it another Well of Eternity, Malfurion and Tyrande wanted the Highborne to give up on their addiction, and believed practicing arcane would bring the Legion back to Azeroth once again. When these Highborne archaists were forced to leave the arcane, they made an arcane storm, which caused their exile, approximately 7,000 years ago.

As I said, learning about Arcane is not banned, just usage of it is.

As for warden’s finding out and etc, nonsense. Do not pay attention.

Yes, you sealed the Temple of Elune and then you proceeded to create a shield around your city and abandon us in the middle of the war.
The cowards who followed Elisande only cared about themselves, you shown that when you allied with the demons in legion and traded your own world just to save your miserable lives.

I don’t understand what you’re trying to say here, you cast a shield around your city too, even became warlocks and dabbled with demons and the fel, what do you mean by “very Highborne move”?

The Highborne’s abuse of arcane magic had led to the Burning Legion’s invasion and the shattering of ancient Kalimdor. Countless night elves had been killed by the demons. Thus, arcane magic was now a crime punishable by death.

The Wardens were assasins, jailors and bounty hunters. When loosed upon escaped criminals, wardens employ a number of supernatural powers that enable them to recapture their prey and mete out the night elves’ justice.
As I said above, arcane magic was now a crime punishable by death, those who would dare to dabble with it would be considered criminals, and would spend their eternity on the vaults or be killed.
Even today, the Wardens and their leader Maiev Shadowsong still hold grudges against the Highborne, for example, when the Shen’dralar returned to Night elf society in wotlk, Maiev ordered a series of murderers against them in Darnassus.

That was literally their job:
The mysterious wardens serve as the night elves special >POLICE< force in Kalimdor.
They are elite members of the Watchers, the jailors, and marshals of night elf society, and the highest rank that can be bestowed on a Watcher. Maiev Shadowsong was first to be given the rank of warden, which she later awarded to a select few who had proven their exceptional fighting abilities, tracking skills, and tenacity.

So, my character could’ve learned it for all those years, but not use it - or at least not be caught using it. Despite how good the wardens would be at exposing criminal activity, I’m sure some could’ve hidden it well enough? At least, I’d like to think that for my character. Another option could be, the character would flee the night elven society upon deciding to use the magic he’s learned and become a “lone sorcerer” of sort.

If you lived in a village like Astranaar/Auberdine, people could start to get suspicious of your activities, thoug, i think a lone sorcerer could work.
A lone Kaldorei mage, wandering ancient Kalimdor during the Long Vigil away from the prying eyes of his kin, delving into ancient ruins in seek of arcane knowledge and the legacy of his Highborne ancestors - sounds good to me.

I think that is why I said “typically”. Which means “in most cases”. There are of course exceptions to every rule, as you outlined.

Regardless, we are the true and rightful owners of this title.

Now begone to your forest lowborn commoner.

The “Highborne”, standing in the city of Dazar’alor, the seat of the Troll Empire, true Highborne subjugated the Trolls to their will - you take orders from them HAHA!
I see that the Shal’dorei love being lackeys to other races, first the Legion, now the Trolls and Orcs, do you have some kind of kink with serving monsters?

They are. They are the descendants of Highborne who were tired of being forbidden from using magic, leaving the night elven society and making their way to the Eastern Kingdoms, eventually finding the kingdom of Quel’thalas. Only these descendants became the high elves, transformed over time by the energies of the Sunwell they created using waters from the Well of Eternity.

From what I know, high elves do acknowledge their Highborne ancestry, however they also see themselves as a separate race. So if you want the ancient night elf empire thing going on, I wouldn’t really recommend this path.

Arcane magic requires learning and practice, so if those that raised your character weren’t capable of it, they couldn’t teach it. My highborne for instance had a father who taught him in secret while to the outside they made it look like there was no magic going on.
Another thing is that since Cataclysm, the Highborne who were in exile (those of Eldre’thalas for example) rejoined the society, so you can make that a part of your story too.

There is a night elf with the title in the night elven starting zone, more than a few if I remember correctly (just went over there yesterday)

I have a story in mind in how the night elf in question would’ve learned to use it

Night elf Highborne exist in lore.

And indeed the Highborne you met in Teldrassil are the ones from Dire Maul I was talking about earlier in this thread.

Their leader is Mordent Evenshade

I recommend reading his story on wowpedia. It also explains the story of the Highborne in Teldrassil

While this is true in the lore, i always felt like that point was just ridiculous. In reality, the opposite would happend. Night Elves should be the small and pale ones and Blood elves should be the taller elves with dark skin.

Unless pigments are specifically used for camoflage, it’s lost in low light enviorment. And purple most certainly does not blend in. Hell, purple is excellent at absorbing green light (and thus heating them up) reflected off the forest. Meaning any animals with heat/IR sensitivity (like snakes) would be able to spot them easier than if they were white as a ghost.

There is a reason there is almost no purple or violet animals. Predetor or prey.

Lore-wise, all of the elves of the Azeroth are similar to each other with the minor differences, I do not know what happened to them in game, as all of the elves in game have such differences that they look like day and night.

The Shal’dorei are there to enter the expeditions, not to obey the rules of the Zandalari trolls.

As I have told, The Shen’dralar have obeyed the rules of the lowborne, and accepted the terms and the conditions of the lowborne, that does not make a sense, you are not a highborne by obeying the rules of the lowborne.

True, that ones who are the ones who obeyed the rules and the culture of the lowborne.

Guess those demons in Nighthold weren’t lowborne then
Or where you just so afraid they would kill you that you dropped all your pride and snobbishness and became a lowly servant to the demons so they would spare you?
Later when you were in your most fragile and weakened state you called for the help of the “lowborne” to save you, pathetic.

We never called you, you have answered to call of the Nightfallen Rebellion, I was and still is Elisande’s loyalist.

So you were one of the cowards that traded your world to the Legion, i should have expected.
