Naah, doesn’t really scan, Asians had their own types of Faerie Folk, classic ‘Elves’ as we think of them are from Germanic/Celtic/Norse/Briton mythology.
This said, Blizzard have given Kaldorei some Korean elements, right down to being fond of Kimchee as food, and Blood/High Elf architecture is pretty much Persian.
Quite a popular request. We know Grand Magister Rommath has black tattoos on his arm, and Kael’thas (for it is he) on the original box set of the TBC expansion has runic tattoos around his eye sockets, so they definitely seem to be a Magister thing. Farstrider Rangers however, seem to be mad keen on their facepaint, such as the WC2 Elven Ranger unit, and Alleria (Whose style is Thalassian, not exclusively ‘High Elf’, as she left Azeroth before the Blood Elves even were a ‘thing’ )
It’s probably a bit soon for them to have picked up cultural traits from each other, though we do see Nightborne tourists wandering Silvermoon in game, and obviously the newfound romance between Lor’themar and Thalyssra shows that Nightborne and Sin’dorei don’t regard each other as ‘weird’ or excessively ‘Other’.
Agreed… However Blood Elves already do now have the option of actually black hair, as opposed to the previous dark purple-ish version they had.
Ehhh, depends. I mean obviously the concept of a ‘monk’ was present in western civilisation before we had even made contact with the Orient, but I’m assuming you mean the specific concept of an unarmed fighter who uses fists and kicks, which we did not have in the West. But that’s purely because of how ‘martial arts’ developed in the Orient, because of the strict laws on who could carry weapons, which were never really a -thing- in the West. I mean that is what ‘Karate’ means in Japanese. “Empty hand” because peasants were forbidden from carrying weapons, whereas in the West, even Johnny Farmer would have a scythe or a billhook. Also, Just saying, the Scarlets had Monks long before we -re-discovered Pandaria.
Yes and no. Night Elves got some really nice stuff. The Blood Elf stuff was pretty much shunted off to the Void Elves as well, so when it comes to unique customisation, they didn’t actually get that much stuff of their own. In fact both Blood Elves and Draenei were pretty stiffed when it came to unique stuff. But then that’s the story of the TBC races and zones since forever, always the Bridesmaid, never the Bride.
To be fair, a lot of people actually want them to look more like the ‘Wild’ Elves of legend, rather than ‘Pretty’ Legolas clones. I want Brigante to look more like the Tuatha de Danaan, not like a bargain basement Galadriel.
Ahh, you too are a person of culture I see.
That’s what I see Blood Elves as…like Cernunnos, the Wild Hunt, Tuatha de Danaan, Aos Sidhe, Twlwyth Teg and suchlike…Actually, no, the Nightborne are more like the Twlwyth Teg…
With the new changes in 9.1.5 Yes, yes they have. Blood Elves need some lovin’.
Just sayin’, the Blood Elves -are- the scions of the Aristocracy… I mean there -is- that Novella “Blood of the Highborne” all about them
Hmmmm…I think the Allied races (Maybe not the Nightborne and Mechagnomes) are pretty much ahead of the game in terms of attention paid to their models since their inception, in comparison to some of the core races since their inception.
Humans got stiffed, Draenei utterly got murdered and buried under some carpet in Finsbury park and Blood Elves was just weird. “Here, have Dark Skin” “Cool” “Have some more Dark Skin” “That’s the same” “No, it’s subtly darker” “Have Black hair” “Cool!” “Have a Pixie Cut for females” “Thats actually cool, that’s what style my Warlock is meant to have, awesome” “Have three beards” "Woo!, " "Now, and you’ll love this…“Have Blind Eyes” “What?” “Yeah, have no eyes” “Can we not?” “Alright, have -one- eye blind” “riiiight…” “Now, Blue Eyes!” “Yay!” “And, and you’ll love this, have cyan eyes!” “That’s still blue…” “Ah but, have -really blue eyes-!” “That’s still Blue…is this chewing into these promised customisations?”
“No, because, how about -these- peepers?” “That’s bluey-green, seriously, is this the customisation we’re getting?”
“But wait, there’s more…, you can have the darker skin -and- blue eyes!”
“That’s kinda…normal Blizz…I mean that isn’t customisation, is it? That’s normal”
“But look at these!”
“Yeah, blue eyes,”
“But they’re a different type of blue, you see!”
“They’re really not”
“Ahh, but they have a different number next to the selection option!”
“Yeah…that doesn’t actually make them any different, does it?”
“Ahh, but it does, don’t you see?”
“No, because at this point I am wishing I had taken the no eyes option…”
“It’s different, because they are blue eyes!”
“Yeah, we get that, look, can we cut to the chase here, are we actually getting any of the customisations people were really keen on and gave suggestions for?”
“YES! You’re getting Blue eyes!”
“No, no, stop, seriously, how about any of the stuff that people wanted?”
“Well, there is some body jewelry”
"Really?
“Yes, I mean, you won’t see it, because it is under your armour”
“What’s the bloody point then?”
“Ah, but you’ll know it is there, also, you get blue ey-”
“Oh for Gods sake…”
So yeah, would be nice if Blizzard actually came good on the number of customisations they promised (and failed) to deliver…
