Chauffeur Chopper needs to go

I don’t think even a roleplayer would have their immersion broken by someone using a mechano-hog while leveling…

you are correct!

Somebody above just said, “if you don’t want your immersion broken, move to an Rp realm”

a) please don’t and b) we use those mounts here too, nobody cares while levelling.

Maybe realise that atm there are a lot of them because of the experience bonus.
I hate being bunched up with that many people, doesn’t matter if they go VROOOM but I also recognize that this activity isn’t common.

If it bothers you that much, play after the 20th of April.

People on RP realm cares when it’s during an event and if a Group comes in driving around people roleplaying on purpose. Otherwise? #NoPoopsToGive

Exactly.

I agree with all of that.

I can understand the immersion issue, but how many characters stay below level 20 and/or continue to use it past level 20, I would not think many. I would suspect that at the moment there are a lot of new characters considering the exp buff and it has got a bit overwhelming for some.

Maybe in WoW, but check out the SWG NGE, they didn’t remove items but they removed just about every class in the game. Why ? Because apparently they weren’t Star Warsy or Iconic.

As for the Chauffer thingy, yes it does ruin immersion for some, as does a number of other thing. This, however is an MMO and the devs have made an effort to make some things more convenient for the many of us levelling alts (most likely a lot more than there are ‘new’ players). Some things are necessary to be compromised for gameplay reasins and I see this as one of them.

I think that’s still a bit different.

Like, WoW classes and specs have gone through pretty drastic changes, but removing something that people have earned as a reward, for such a petty reason no less, is stretching it quite a bit, in terms of what one would realistically expect devs to do/alter/remove.

Design shifts happen, for better or for worse, but just taking stuff away isn’t so much design shift as it is removing for it’s own sake, which I think is the unprecedented part.

With the removal of classes they also removed the ability to use a whole load of stuff, in particular mounts, combat companions and pets, effectively removing them from the game, they removed BIS items for Jedi by removing the mobs that dropped that particular item.

You made a generalised unqualified statement which was wrong and I pointed out an example that contradicted it. It’s no good trying to counter argue it by moving the goalposts and saying you meant something different, you should have said that in the first place.

As for the Immersion thing, we have game that has spaceships with beam weapons, Star Trek type teleporter devices, aircraft carriers and much more. So a chauffer driven motorbike can’t really be seen as immersion breaking in light of all that other stuff.

Also The SWG NGE wasn’t a ‘design shift’, SOE tried to force a totally new game on to the playerbase.

That would make it more akin to what’s being suggested here, I agree.

That not so much, sources for things have been getting removed since Vanilla.

I didn’t move the goalposts? I clarified/elaborated what I meant.

That is still, in essence, a design shift. Overly drastic, poorly made one, but a shift nonetheless.

edit: Actually I’ll backpedal a bit on my first sentence, I still don’t think it’s strictly comparable, reminds me more of when WoW removed old character/NPC/mount models and what have you.
Kinda like collateral damage in trying to ‘progress’ the game.

Not having this mount ruins my immersion, see, it works both ways.

What a weird mindset.

You doing competitive leveling or something? :joy:

Also: Haha. Chopper goes vrooom.

No thanks.
Put on some music or whatever in the background problem solved.
This would be the most ridiculous reason to quit a game that i heard of in a long while.

Or was it emulsion…

It really doesn’t need to go anywhere. WoW isn’t a high fantasy game, it’s a bit of everything for everyone. Seriousness just isn’t something WoW was ever meant to do, atmosphere-wise or story-wise. If it did, they’d have paid attention to their own lore and stayed faithful to it over the years.

But WoW isn’t Lord of the Rings, and it isn’t Dungeons & Dragons. It’s also not any of those long-running high fantasy book series that respects their own history. WoW is a cartoony game that’s meant to cater to everyone, have a bit of everything but not be too focused on anything.

WoW never has been and was never meant to be purely magic and fantasy. It’s also sci-fi with half of an idea of steampunk thrown in there. This has ALWAYS been the case. Choppers, shredders, quirky races that love explosives have always been here and been lore-appropriate.

What I’m getting at is this: Claiming that THIS particular chopper is “immersion-breaking” in a fantasy sci-fi game, you’re just kidding yourself. Or you’re looking for something to complain about. There’s been rideable choppers in-game since WotLK, and things like mechanical birds since Vanilla. Space travel through portals AND ships has been canon since TBC (Draenei arrived on Azeroth in a literal space ship) and we’ve participated in space flight ourselves in Legion (Argus).

Like it or not, engineering and the various contraptions it brings is, has been and probably always will be a part of WoW. It’s no use complaining about one chopper being “immersion-breaking” when we have literal helicopters and shredders that are all perfectly canon.

Actual immersion-breaking requires something that isn’t canon. Imagined immersion-breaking is people like you and me being unable to suspend a bit of disbelief. MMORPGS aren’t ever going to be perfectly immersive, so there’s always a bit of work required on our part to forgive the “flaws” such as other people having fun their way.

I hate the chopper noise so I removed it with an addon. A high level player can still come and fly around on their shredder to collect herbs and then what? If other players bother you so much, just apply RP rules: pretend they don’t exist.
