Yepp, similar issue today. The app gives the connection timed out message.

That said, would you mind double checking via your device store for any pending update and - if present - apply it?
If not, please try also a full uninstall/re install, as in some cases the process was enough to remove the timeouts.
Already removed/installed it 3 times, still the same connection problem after character selection. Was working fine until yesterday
There’s an update now, just installed it and can get back in.

Right so the update doesn’t show in the updates list. You have to go on the app page and select update from there.
After applying the update on this manner it works.
