Concerns about Mount Acquisition Process

They work for me, or at least they used to. Personally, I think they’ve recently started adding too many mounts and made too many of them too easy to collect. If anything, the new system makes the problem worse - rather than having a smaller collection of mounts, some of which were hard or time-consuming to achieve, we now have a never-ending supply of new mounts where the overwhelming majority of them have us constantly playing low-effort content to collect. The Trading Post is an example - I plan to let my sub lapse at the end of Feb and stay unsubbed until pre-patch for v11. I’ll miss 4 or 5 Trading Posts worth of tender, plus any Trading Post monthly completion mounts. I’ll probably never catch up as there’s always stuff I want to spend my tender on each month, so for me they’ll pretty much be gone for good - I already cannot keep up with the Trading Post mount supply. At least with AFK mounts you can farm them whenever.

Get rid of all the recolors and reskins…
Unique mounts only.

Let’s bring my sour sarcastic self out the wardrobe for a moment.

WoW is a casino. Dices everywhere. Took you long enough.

With a lot of old stuff, the challenge is not in the encounter but winning the lottery.
Except it’s not lottery but pixels.

They want me to type this:

Instead of allowing people to earn buy cosmetics in the shop, they casually restrict them behind the sub. In return, winners can feel exclusive.

I have actually won the lottery. I have oracle skills, unlike you. I know numbers.
(I also lie sometimes.)

Out of curiosity, what mount is in question?

would you prefer 100 arena wins or mythic boss kill for mount?

I omitted the specific mount to underscore the broader issue. Regardless of the achievement, I believe the AFK gameplay shouldn’t be a design choice. However, for your curiosity, the mount is Rusty Mechanocrawler, and no, I wouldn’t settle for the ugly orange color variation of the mount. Please note that the focus here is on the principle, not the specific mount.

I’m not a game designer, but surely there could be a more engaging method than 266 hours of AFK gameplay. Whether it’s arena wins or mythic boss kills, the key is finding a balance that’s challenging yet active. Let’s encourage the devs to explore alternatives for a better gaming experience.

I understand how you feel,i myself missing only 2 drop mounts.
I had around 2800x for green infernal (got it days before they made it 1%).
But i doubt they change anything about it other than maybe increase droprate which you can still be extremely unlucky with 1%

And be fully geared in a week? Yeah no thanks what’s the point in playing then

Huh? How do you come to that conclusion? Only thing this would do is equal between all players how much time it takes to get a certain item. You’d still need to farm the currency, but at least you know exactly beforehand how long / how many runs that will take.

You’re describing the crafting system, between the catalyst and that I’d like there to still be at least some variety in what players are wearing.

Nope. Dungeon/Raid items can’t be crafted and the mats are bought and not aquired through group gameplay.

The mats are crests.

To a small amount (baseline mats are gold), which you also get for rep/q line and still, main argument is those are not the same items that drop in dungeons, you can’t craft all your BIS gear.

If I farm my BIS trinket, I want to know exactly how many hours / dungeon runs this will take and not be dependant on luck or be unlucky and have my time wasted by RNG.

its cosmetic optional mounts. it doesnt require any effort and has low drop chance.

or its cosmetic optional mounts. that requires effort. has good drop chance

Thank you all for sharing your insights and opinions on my post. I’m disappointed that the issue didn’t raise more red flags within the community, as it appears many are compliant with what seem to be rather exploitative RNG systems in the game.

After around 300 attempts and numerous hours invested, I made the difficult decision to delete an army of alts across multiple realms and ultimately quit the game. It’s crucial to note that my departure isn’t solely due to not obtaining the mount; rather, it’s a recognition of the unhealthy relationship fostered by such gameplay mechanics.

I appreciate the time we’ve spent together in Azeroth, but, for the sake of my well-being, it’s time to move on. May your adventures in World of Warcraft be filled with joy and excitement. Farewell.

I do think the drop rate on these things could be a bit better, something like 5% wouldn’t be crazy. That would make it an average of every 20 kills so there’s be people with 50 kills and players with 1 kill.

If you are anything like me, you’ll be back
However this cathartic / theatrical display is good, it helps with accountability to self and others. Whenever you play, choose something you enjoy, something that delivers fun, over chasing carrots.

If you desire to grow in the games, then certainly trying new ones is a way, but also playing alts through story or joining the classic seasons. There is plenty of low hanging fruit growth there, without any obsession.

One thing I’d like to add, from a video I watched years ago. The end game is a literal expression to describe that you’ve achieved all there is. Some games blur the finish line and try to stretch the last part, to give players who want to keep fiddling (instead of restarting a new character or game) something to chase. Slightly better item levels, more gold, more pets… So it’s tough, and up to you to recognize and realise, that you’ve actually crossed that line. Of course with WoW it evolved and then it mostly replaced “the game”, trying to keep the MOBAesque part accessible.
