Consequences of Overplaying… 💥

I like to collect the tears from the lamentation of the women for my morning coffee. Its more metal.

Simply get a job, have other hobbies,

This is not what happens at all because people are getting rewarded but less and that triggers their addiction and causes them to be angry.
It’s the same mechanism as with getting less caffeine, sugar, alcohol, etc.

That’s only part of the issue.

It’s such a far fetched comparison, people are unhappy because the content isn’t dropping gear, it has nothing to do with addiction. I don’t get a happy good feeling when gear drops. Most of the time it’s not even what I’m after. It’s so futile trying to gear.

This is like diagnosing someone who is nervous for their first day at work in a new job with an anxiety disorder. Instead of just accepting it’s first day nerves that the bulk of the human race gets.

I used to be really addicted back at TBC and cata times. So much i went to work with few hours of sleep and fell asleep at work. It ended up getting me pretty sick physically and i quit the game and said id never come back. Well i came back at bfa. Nowdays i just do my dailies and log out. Later i might run 1-2 mythics or raid for 2 hours. I feel like there isnt as much to do as there used to be or …im just old most likely the second option :stuck_out_tongue:
Also coffee is life! I cant stand tea i gag just tasting it :frowning:

That’s the main reason I oppose the existence of the weekly vault. It is delayed reward, an extrinsic reason to come back to the game. Many games have such “return” systems. You ever played a mobile game, quit it and got a message “log in to receive your reward”? Yeah

What you think happens to you is quite irrelevant in the face of the scientific facts regarding the mechanism which leads to the addiction.

Any form of reward (in general) stimulates the brain to release neurotransmitters and hormones like dopamine or serotonin which make you feel good even if you are not conscious of it happening. Over time person gets addicted to a certain level of those substances in the brain and seeks more stimulation. When people can’t get the same level of stimulation their brain chemistry changes and they become dissatisfied, grumpy, annoyed, angry, etc.

Anyone can get addicted to an in-game reward and seeking excuses to rationalize that “need” to get more reward is the first sight of addiction.

Vault is also built on fear marketing because if you do not get back into the game you will miss the reward and if you don’t play enough you will miss the opportunity to get something really good.

Really crappy system.

Hot chocolate or mint tea, depending which is available

I dunno what that is.
I’ve never seen it sold in Romania.

It’s coffee with the reason you drink coffee removed.

No caffeine in it.

well, the problem is that because of the pandemic i can’t really go outside my house for a long time and i can’t meet friends most of the time. so we play wow together.

The grind is extreme. Hit the wall recently after to much focus on minmaxing, keeping atleast one character top geared, grinding the maw for sockets, what not.

Completely burnt out. last thing i wanna do is log into the game. this week only logging in to scheduled raids.

and soon, 9.1, starting over. Seriously thinking about retiring after this season and raidtier.

Nothing you have presented is scientific fact. However we have many armchair experts on the forums who fancy themselves to be amazing experts in fields they know nothing of.

Kinda rich coming from someone who was telling people what addiction is or isn’t while not knowing the fundamental biological mechanisms which create addiction.

If you could prove that what I said isn’t a fact you would do it but you didn’t because you can’t and that’s why you choose to be defensive, dismissive, and throwing around vague accusations to discredit someone.

Role of neurotransmitters and hormones in addiction if pretty much common knowledge and there is plenty of Science papers written about it so go educate yourself :man_shrugging:

Your logic, person has glass of wine = they are an alcoholic. My logic, person has glass of wine, they just enjoy having a glass of wine.

There are addicitions in life. That does not mean EVERYTHING is an addiction. Including something as simple as loot. It’s an extreme case where this becomes an addiction and people have to get a fix.

Addictions are terrible and mostly destroy people’s lives.

There are two forms of addiction:

  1. Playing a lot because it’s just a plain fun place to hang out with friends
  2. Playing a lot because you can’t seem to get it out of your mind.

The second one is bad, the first one is fine. Make sure you identify which one you belong to.

Also, shame on you, Blizzard, for making the game more about the first one than it has any right to be. Take all your stupid dailies for rep and mission tables and stick them up where the sun don’t shine. Kthxbai.

Except, it’s not my logic because I never said that simply wanting a reward makes someone an addict.

What I said is that wanting more rewards and making excuses to get more rewards when you already are being rewarded -which is what happens in wow after Legion/BfA loot shower- is an indication that someone might be addicted to receiving rewards in-game.

Addiction is a very complex illness which affects even simpliest things in persons life and often people don’t realize that they have it. Talking about it in some general terms or throwing around blanket statements like you do that explain nothing and prove nothing is a tell-tale sign of people being ignorant about the subject.
