He was sued (and settled with cash) in 2005.
He was publicly accused in 2006.
I don’t think the Cosby Suite is reference to being a sexual predator and gloating about such. But if you’re claiming that nobody knew anything until 2014 (and widely until 2018) then you’re simply wrong.
I’d also like to point out how the investigation aligns perfectly with the way Dave talked to Alex in the group chat.
“During a company event (an annual convention called Blizz Con [sic]) Afrasiabi would hit on female employees, telling him [sic] he wanted to marry them, attempting to kiss them, and putting his arms around them,”
That was my point really. I swear if he lived long enough for the concert to go ahead people would have attacked people that wrote “off to the Micheal Jackson concert!” online back in 2009. Everyone is acting like private investigaters right now and attacking random Blizzard employees when we don’t know the full story yet.
Grab the pitchforks at the end when we get all the information imo. People looking through every single photo/comment made by Blizzard employees like they’re some sort of autority figure. This threads information is a good example of what happens.
Think how bad you will feel if you attack one of the people who didn’t take part in any of the things that went down? You will get your chance later when the court stuff is done.
did you know? it’s easy to say things in hindsight. maybe they did know, maybe they didn’t. to me it’s a reach to assume they did. i think everyone’s a bit on edge from finding out about all this and people are jumping to conclusions.
perhaps i’m a bit on edge myself and misinterpreted your message as well. i apologise if so. i still meant what i wrote though. i’m trying to calm down and take a step back with all this upsetting news.
It’s because some people want someone to be guilty. If someone looks for things with a thin toothed comb they are wanting the drama and gossip from it imo. (I don’t mean anyone in this thread) Leave it to the experts.
I don’t blame the OP for this though. It’s easy to pick up on someones misplaced outrage and think it means like they interpreted. Let’s find out the truth, not overblow random jokes/pictures that don’t make sense. Every single thing a Blizzard higher up has said is being judged like they are Ted Bundy or something. We don’t even fully know if they are the guilty ones or not.
It is a fact they have run the company so poorly though but I don’t think that requires random pitchforks without the courts handling it first.
hopefully the investigation will result in some real change for the company. i’m assuming some heads will roll. and who knows, perhaps some fresh faces could bring some much needed new passion and ideas to the team.
I don’t know if i’m more disappointed by how gross this is or how incredibly bad they were at hiding it. If you’re gonna do incredibly reprehensible crap, why post it to facebook?
In some ways i’m glad that they did, because it’ll hasten their demise, but still. Yikes.
Because people in the future misunderstand the meaning of the message years later? Which signs are pointing at what has happened here. Read the posts in the thread. I say yet again it’s easy to have hindsight about something.
Read the posts… I’m saying this was before they knew Bill Cosby was a sex offender. The dates of Bill Cosby being found guilty of the crimes is after they did the stuff on FB.
Actually the first Bill Cosby allegation was in 2005, but the case that put him away and freed him was a couple of years ago. I am suprised they did not have Epstein or Weinstein Suites at Blizzard either.
An Allegation that didn’t come to anything isn’t enough to get pitchforks out for people joking about Bill Cosby. I bet most people don’t even remember or know about the 2005 case. They wheren’t even joking about that stuff anyway. As I said this is 100% a case of people jumping the gun because of the current scandal.
No way to know for sure why they had the portrait of Bill Cosby… Personally i think this was some inside joke at Blizzard that obviously we are not meant to know.
Per the lawsuit
“Afrasiabi was so known to engage in harassment of females that his suite was nicknamed the “Cosby Suite” after alleged ra**** Bill Cosby.”
I mean are we to believe they were referencing Bill Cosby for his sweaters? I just cant see that myself…
That being said we will eventually find out what it meant i am sure and the main thing is that the staff are now going to be looked after like they should have always been and this toxic and abusive environment is ended.
There are now investigations going on and we can hope and pray that anyone still working for Blizzard is fired for misconduct. This is what i hope for.
People should always be treated with respect period.
Well no its in the report that there was a “cosby suite” so either the person who reported the allegation is wrong about the dates in the report or the incident happened toward the end of Afasbi’s tenure at Blizzard.
It’s true it could have turned into that after but the Tweet etc that’s enraging people on Twitter doesn’t point that way.
I wouldn’t go as far as saying an allegation is wrong but the pictures and mentioning of it people are finding on the internet don’t add up with the dates. They could have turned it into the thing people think after Cosby sex crimes were better known.
I’m tired and my writing probably sucks. I hope this makes sense.
I’ll quote “Looking back, I am embarrassed at the nickname of that room, given all that we know now. At the time in 2013, It was nothing more than a silly reference to an old flea-market potrait. I wasn’t even aware of Cosbys reputation until after I left Blizzard and the allegation became more well-known, and I certainly would not have tweeted about the suite if I thought it was something terrible at the time” -Ghostcrawler
As I said, It adds up.
I didn’t know about Cosby being accussed of anything like that at the time either. Until way after 2013.
I’ll also quote “Blizzard
“An employee brought these 2013 events to our attention in June 2020,” a spokesperson for Activision Blizzard told Kotaku when asked about the “Cosby Suite” images and allegations against Afrasiabi. “We immediately conducted our own investigation and took corrective action. At the time of the report, we had already conducted a separate investigation of Alex Afrasiabi and terminated him for his misconduct in his treatment of other employees.”
This is someone thinking it’s bad in 2020, Not 2013. They thought about it from a 2020 mind set , aka hindsight?
If you read the report the reasoning behind the Crosby picture was that the rug in the hotel room had a particular resemblance to the jumpers that Crosby used to wear on his show.
It was a joke, this might shock you but most guys don’t act like Christian puritans when they hang out together and joke about that kind of stuff when drinking and getting ready to go to a party, yes even the guys you know. I’m not sure why the left has gone full circle back to religious puritanism.
