Ofc, its most likely gonna be poorly balanced, just like rbg always was.
In my initial reply to Naka I tried to explain why I think it might be more balanced than rbgs usually have been. The rbg recipe has mostly boiled down to: bring classes that are good for teamfights, like boomy, lock, dk, warr - and then have rogues deal with defending and taking nodes. Boomy having both insane team fight dmg and stealth+cc made it a nobrainer to bring at least 1 and preferably 2-3 in every comp. Some specs could be good in some bgs, like rets fitting well in close quarter melee zerg fights like SSM, but overall the good rbg specs have remained at the top for the entire history of rbg.
The shift from 10 to 8 players makes it so the benefit of doing crazy spread dmg (lock, boomy, sp etc) is slightly lower. And the benefit of being good in 1v1 fights should be slightly higher. This means rogue will probably still be the best class for it, but maybe not by such a long shot as before. Mage, ww, feral etc (specs who did good 1v1, but not the best in team fights) might do well.
Its obv impossible to tell at this point. Maybe the 4 set cap will benefit rogues too much. We’ll see.
yeah but… i have 1 setup that is hard to do, and pays of greatly when u pull it off, u have db ring for 1vx, or nova icewall and shimmer, but some stuff will just fail u, there is counterplay to this from the warrior, dfrom the dh and so on, even if they don’t have trinkets x) so hitting everything right only to be failed by something minor, and when i cap it, losing it to a instant cc is kinda lame
Yes I do think this is a testing ground to check if some settings are enjoyed by the community & potential addition/rework in the future (I would guess next expansion).
The reset cap is from my pov a really good addition, which reverse the stall effect of capping 3 bases in AB/Gorge. If you loose the first fight, it doesn’t mean that you can sit still for the rest of the game which was (and I guess still is) the norm in RBG.
However, the fast mount & 4 sec caps is not a good idea if you put everything all together. It’s too much & bring too much disparity between the classes.
1 point though, I’m not sure about EoC. I played one with 2 base only & I see it’s mentioned rated EoC. Was this setup already in place before?
The reduction to 8 + the fact that you need to move 1-2 guys frequently to recap would force a comp change for sure. But at the end of the day, if RBG stays as is with premade groups, changing the mode by adding/modifying few factors will be overshadowed by the over optimization of the players. Could be a good mode for Solo Queue though as you can’t plan the comp you will be in.
Deepwind Gorge redesign was changed into being worse in RBGs in my opinion - the current version is just way too large. AB/Eye (RBG version) is fine imo.
I preferred old style Gorge, with carts. It gave an extra dimension to the game that is otherwise just AB in sheeps clothing. Only issue with the carts was the imbalance in tanks and healers meant one side was always going to win over the other. Shame though, I still found it more fun than the current version.
