From conjuring firestorms during the Troll Wars to mentoring apprentices beneath the violet spires of Dalaran, and finally to his blood-drenched demise at the Roof of the World alongside his fellow Sunfury - Vith’ethir lived a long and storied life. But for many of these children of Quel’thalas, death was not the end.
The Scourge, ever hungering for powerful servants, raised the fallen from their icy graves as San’layn – undead elves with dark powers and vampiric attributes. These Darkfallen soon inherited the roles once held by the Nathrezim: strategists and and overseers within the Lich King’s court.
Vith’ethir was counted among them - and feared above most. Among the Scourge and his enemies, he eventually became known as the Baron of Night, though few who spoke the name lived long enough to explain its meaning.
During the war in Northrend, Vith’ethir used his talents to infiltrate the Kirin Tor, donning mortal guises to sow chaos from within Dalaran – where he himself had once held arcane lectures. Eventually unmasked, he was imprisoned in the Violet Hold, his name erased from the annals of the order he once served…
In time, more of his Darkfallen kin joined him in captivity – his brothers: Thal’theron, the Thorned Tongue and Velthrik, the Shadow Duke, among them. Though once commanders of legions of undead, the three spent their captivity not in silence, but in constant bickering, taunting, and shouting across the enchanted barriers of their cells. The Violet Warden himself remarked that it was like listening to quarreling children…
When Dalaran fell, they were all presumed lost and destroyed beneath the rubble.
But weeks ago, an Arathi worker turned up dead in the heart of Mereldar - completely drained of blood. While the Order of Night was the first to be blamed, the Violet Warden had his own suspicions. He journeyed to Mereldar himself and immediately recognized the handiwork of the San’layn.
And it was through the Ebon Blade’s efforts - deep within the Ringing Deeps, as a dying, Darkfallen cultist breathed his last - that a name was revealed to them: Vith’ethir, Baron of Night.
Though initially feared to have infiltrated the Arathi, the truth was far stranger. Agents of the Kirin Tor located him at the heart of a Kobyss war-camp near Lorel’s Crossing - worshipped as some sort of dark god by the Deepsea creatures.
Now, the Violet Warden calls upon the Ebon Blade once more: ride for Hallowfall, strike down the Baron of Night and lay waste to his followers, before his schemes spell further doom for the Arathi.
We journey to Hallowfall exactly one week from today! Let me know if you wish to sign up! There are still plenty of spots left (we are 5/10 so far!)
