If I was a Thalassian elf, I would never support a city named after the person that attacked my Kingdom (Orgrim Doomhammer) Hint: Ogrimmar.
They refused sucking magic out of animals and refused the use of fel, which made them leave, or exiled in terms of that one group of High elves in eastern plague-lands.
Yes I know they are the same race, never stated otherwise. The conflict they have with each other is strictly politics, and a few cultural differences (use of mounts, etc)
If Alleria and Vereesa (who had majority of their family killed by Orcs) allied with the Horde, they would infact become traitors to their family.
Gotta be fair here, the Blood Elves were given little choice. They were seemingly negotiating with Alliance, as they hosted the alleged envoy of Ironforge Prospector Anvilward, only to then find out that he was a spy and was working with other Night Elven spies and alleged saboteurs.
Sylvanas and the forsaken helped them maintain control of the Ghostlands, repelling both Night Elven invaders and scourge remnants, and Sylvanas advocated for the Horde.
Easy to see why things ended up as they did.
Only the Quel’Lithien High Elves were really exiled for refusing sucking magic from living beings, the usage of fel was not really a thing (EDIT: to the extend that most people seem to believe) nor has it ever been stated as being a bother anywhere in game or in other litterature.
Atleast you know there is a difference between the Quel’Lithien High Elves who were exiled, and then the High Elves in Quel’Danil and the Silver Covenant, both of which never returned home after their homeland was destroyed, to help save/protect their people.
If that is not the peak of betrayal, then I don’t know what is.
And Vereesa has the audacity to say that Quel’thalas is her home too.
That the High Elves have with the Blood Elves*
The Blood Elves are largely just defending themselves.
Instead they ally with the ones that in part were responsible for driving their royalty to madness.
They are clearly able to seperate people from different generations, I think most in the Horde deserve the same chance. Most of the orcs did not participate in the first or second war, the Darkspear trolls did not participate in it, the tauren did not.
The forsaken and Sylvanas were themselves slaves of the Lich King.
As far as Sylvanas is concerned, everyone is nothing.
OOoh look at the lil guy he is so ADORABLE!, can i keep him? Ooh look he’s trying to stab me with his little toothpick! awww, You want a cookie?
who’s a good boy!
Agree. Belf are actually remarkably chill about other elves, including those that kicked them out (Nelf) or split from them (Helf). The vitriol is usually coming from the other groups towards the belf, than the other way around.
Despite life dealing them a rough hand courtesy of having a shockingly crap leader in Kael’thas, it seems the Belf are pretty happy with where they’ve ended up, who they are now and have no real desire to “settle scores” with old rivals or their ancestors, at least not as far as the game shows us. Players inject a lot of the malice they feel for races into belf which simply isn’t there.
Belf largely fight nelf and helf simply because they’re alliance. They have a problem with the alliance principally because the Horde does, but also because they consider the Alliance as antagonising them when they were at their weakest. This does not mean they have a particular problem with the races therein (maybe except humans) and certainly not those of their estranged kin (Helf and nelf).
Were the nelf and helf not part of the alliance, I imagine the belf would leave them alone and not bother them at all. Why would they? Their kingdom is vastly more powerful than the helf population and so long as the nelf stick to Kalimdor they post no major threat to Silvermoon so why would they go to the expense? They wouldn’t.
To an extend. Lor’themar and Rommath does feel some animosity towards Vereesa and the Silver Covenant, but not to the extend where they seek to kill them, rather, they’d prefer not to kill them at all.
In Lor’themars case one could argue that this comes from a place of betrayal, because the Silver Covenant High Elves basically hid themselves in Dalaran, they did not return with Kael’thas to the ruined Quel’thalas to help their people.
In Rommaths it likely comes from the fact that they allied themselves with the Kirin’tor, which still had leaders who, while not directly involved with the event that nearly killed Kael’thas as well as Rommath himself, but turned a blind eye to the whole incident even if it happened in their very own ruined city. And I honestly trust Rommath, knowing the inner workings of the Kirin’tor, he was a part of it afterall.
The animosity seems to be specifically towards the Silver Covenant, as Lor’themar actually expressed regret and sorrow when he were meeting with the Quel’Lithien High Elves. Afterall, those High Elves actually participated in the retaking of Eversong Woods from the scourge remnants, and they were exiled.
The War was a big one which killed 90% of their people. If the silver covenant (or the high elves of Dalaran) choose not to help, it’s their decision. It was a big war and they probably would have died. Vereesa was pregnant with Twins too.
Her home is gone, her family is gone, who does she have left beside her children?
And let’s not act like the Silver covenant never cared about Quel’thelas. They actually came to help defend it from the Amani during cataclysm, but Lor’themar was furious and wanted them out. Hulduron on the other hand, invited them to help.
As for Quel’lithien Lodge majority of them turned to wretched after one of the Rangers found an item of seductive energy. However there are at least 3 or more survivors, one of them was spotted in Pandaria.
