it would most likley just end up being around a 1.5 min kinda like Flourish just as an example and having cooldowns that actually does something dosnt mean we should have terrible healing outside of it and currently we have weak cooldowns and weak baseline abilitys.
With that shadow/holy form on a 1.5 min we would have that + Rapture + Barrier making our lives a lot better in 5 man content having an actuall strong cooldown to respond with during the high healing checks in high end raiding and key pushing.
There’s absolutly nothing hard about this when every other healing spec has relevant cooldowns like flourish/convoke, Ascendence, Hpala wings, Rewind and the list goes on and on and these specs still ends up having a lot of relevant throughput outside of these strong CD’s. While disc sits with rapture that currently cant handle a single mechanic in keys when you try to push because its just so weak.
And then we get hardstuck at a certain key lvl while pushing because there are 0 Cd’s that are strong enough to handle the healing checks. And ontop of that M+ is not a consistent throughput gamemode in majority of scenarios it is cooldowns carrying the hard healing checks except for the 1 boss time in vortex and Halls.
This is sadly very true and TE buffing Halo and the dot and Dark rep is basically the few things the talent is good for and even then the buff is not very relevant. When you enter your scov window and actually need healing you ignore it almost completly. And currently discs struggle in keys is not having healing while TE is overall more of a dmg increase and not a healing increase.
Like I mentioned earlier, we need healing too frequently in m+ to put a big chunk of our power into a big cd. Atm we have decent (not great) healing every 30 sec. If we put scov into a 1,5 min cd, we’d have to redesign/greatly buff rapture, barrier and maybe sfiend - or give such a massive buff to healing elsewhere that it would be way over the top when you actually have cds. Maybe disc needs buffs of such magnitude in raids, but they dont in m+.
Each to their own. I love the disc design atm and think the only thing thats really needed for m+ is a flat increase to atonement healing. And for raids they could simply utilize (buff) the talents that actually serve the purpose you’re describing, such as lights wrath+wrath unleashed, and evang. There’s no need to mess up the rest of the toolkit when you have the exact talents you want readily available, just needing some changes and tweaking.
If it was so bad then people wouldnt play it in m+. Its hard to estimate how the usefulness is distributed between dmg and healing, but even if it only helped for dmg (which is very very far from the case), why would that be an issue? Even in scov window you’ll be able to buff at the very least 2 big penances, and assuming you dont have to spend your time spothealing and refreshing atonements, you have plenty of time to buff mind blasts as well.
Oh I do play holy. Holy is fine, but that’s not the point of this topic.
Disc is by far the most convoluted spec in the entire game, especially being both a healer and damage dealer combined. In another thread someone asked what specc they never were gonna play and most people said disc because it feels bad.
Isn’t that the topic of this thread?
Disc is atm the least played healer in the game.
Disc started out as a damage preventer, instead of hard casting. In wrath this was a bit boring but it was a very eficient way to heal. In the current game they can expand upon this so much. Mastery could come into play like it did with Hpala a few expansion back, or simple extend/improve absorption effects.
Disc is certainly bloated rn with schism and scov doing the same thing, light’s wrath being trash and atonement taking long to apply, but you can’t just say “remove atonement” and expect things to get better when it’s been the spec’s identity since Legion. People play disc because they like the idea of doing more than just mindlessly pressing healing buttons. We enjoy more complicated gameplay. It’s not for everyone nor it should be for everyone.
Blizzard is afraid of disc balancing since there’ve been situations like spirit shell in the past, this is exactly why they gave us dps buff and reduced atonement healing when they should have just given dps buff only. Also, their LB treatment shows how incompetent disc developers are.
Issue is beyond numbers at this point. Spec is simply unrewardingly complex. Well, i wouldnt say complex really as a disc main but ramp prep overall takes way waaay too long. My ideas would be:
-Scov schism merged and off the gcd as everybody asks for.
-Rapture revamp with choice node: 5 buffed shields on a single cast vs 8 regular shields on a single cast(m+ vs raid)
-Radiance choice node to hit 8 people at reduced output or 5 people at increased output (m+ vs raid)
-Turn all the 2nd row from the bottom talents, DA, HD, Expiation etc, into 1 point nodes.
-Turn up the LW and Mindbender/IT numbers so they become a 3rd ramp option besides Rapture and Evang.
These would halve the ramp prep sequence and possibly make us able to ramp every 30sec instead of every 45s and still leave slightly better outside ramp healing.
Beyond that they can play with sins of the many and overall atonement transfer ratio to balance out m+ vs raid throughput.
it isnt very hard to estimate the value as we have wowanalyzer tools for that. And yes ppl are using it in M+ because lets be real here nothing els at the bottom even remotly competes? Our capstones are very lacking in power compared to every single healing spec in the game
