[DK-Events] Scourge of the Violet Hold - Event 2: Saturday, May 10th!

‘Death Knight’ Discord server link: https://discord.gg/xMe6vXrA

EVENT 2
Dates: Saturday, May 10th
Time: 20:00 ST (server time)
Expected Duration: Around 2 hours.
Location: The Ringing Deeps
Faction: Alliance / Horde

Many of the prisoners once bound within the arcane cells of the Violet Hold perished in Dalaran’s destruction, but not all. Now, agents of the Kirin Tor are beginning to learn of potential sightings of Scourge fugitives throughout the lands of Khaz Algar as well as evidence of their handiwork:

Arathi have been found cold and lifeless, their bodies drained of blood. Stormriders speak of a monstrous Deepflayer, larger and more terrifying than any seen before, escaping into the Ringing Deeps. And along the trade routes of Khaz Algar, caravans and travelers have fallen prey to continuous attacks by a single Crypt Lord - its chitin, survivors whisper, covered in permafrost…

With their ranks diminished, the Kirin Tor cannot face these threats alone. In response, Violet Warden Magnolius calls upon the Knights of the Ebon Blade and their expertise in dealing with Scourge to aid in the hunt for Arthas’ former lieutenants before Khaz Algar becomes another Scourge nest. The Ebon Blade, and Azeroth as a whole, cannot afford yet another front in the war against the rampant Scourge.

The Death Knight Haile Soulruin urges his brethren to rally on the Isle of Dorn and crush this threat swiftly, so they may turn their full strength back to the horrors stirring in Northrend.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been feeling inspired to host Death Knight events again lately, so I’m hoping this sparks some interest! The goal is to have fun, create some cool roleplay together and meet new people!

We have already had our first event! The date for the second event will be on Saturday, May 10th.

If you’re interested, please let me know below!

What are the events going to be like?

While nothing is set in stone, each event will follow a general storyline with meaningful player choices that influence the direction and ultimate outcome.

Throughout these events, our Death Knights will:

  • Confront the Scourge on a new frontline - and play a decisive role in bringing it to an end.
  • Use intelligence from the Kirin Tor and Ebon Blade, using records from the Scourgewar to outmaneuver our foes.
  • Withstand Beledar’s Light: While the Void is no ally to the Ebon Blade, the absence of Light is. Should the Beledar fall to darkness during the event, it will empower us, adding a cool twist to the battles. (Since Beledar shifts at 10 ST and events will start at somewere between 8 - 9 ST, this transition will most definitely happen!)

And much more!

Right now, I’m planning a mix of standalone events as well as a larger multi-part storyline featuring multiple Scourge adversaries at once. If things go well and people enjoy it, Northrend could be our next destination!

Who Can Join?

  • All Death Knights affiliated with the Ebon Blade are welcome, whether you’re neutral or faction-aligned.
  • New and veteran Death Knight roleplayers alike! Never tried Death Knight RP before? This is a great chance to jump in!
  • Cross-faction RP is possible! We can form cross-faction raid groups, and the Elixir of Tongues (available on the Auction House) will help bypass the language barrier.

Max Attendees: 10 (subject to change)

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, let me know below!

Depending on the amount of interest, I will likely be making a Discord channel. More information on that to follow. But do not hesitate to whisper me in-game on Soulruin anytime! You can also add my battletag: Val#22186.

Thanks for reading, and Suffer Well!

Just a small correction so you can adjust the events if needed:
Beledar’s timer remains static, not being influenced by switch to daylight saving time. Which means that, as of this week with us travelling one hour into the future, its shift during prime RP time happens at 10 server time rather than 9.

Daylight saving time strikes again. You’re right, thank you very much!

This sounds like something I am definitively interested in!

And I can tentavily say yes to joining this event as Bloodtree!

Sick name.

Are you even a Death Knight if you don’t have a sick name?

I am really interested, however, I am already busy irl there, so I will at least wish you to have fun. Maybe I will join some future event.

Ok, this sounds pretty sick.

If there’s still space, I’d like to sign up my forsaken DK, Rotbourne!

Note: During these events, I’ll be taking some creative liberties in areas of the lore where Blizzard hasn’t provided clear answers (as far as I know. If I’m mistaken, please feel free to correct me!)

Does Beledar’s Light hurt undead?
As far as I’m aware, this hasn’t been confirmed. The Kobyss, being Void-based, are harmed by it, but we don’t know if that also applies to undead. For the sake of flavorful RP, I’m going to assume that yes, Beledar’s Light can harm undead. However, the intensity and effect should be left up to each player’s discretion.

Did Scourge prisoners sense the Helm of Domination’s destruction?
Do they know the Lich King is gone? Once again, we don’t have a clear answer. I vaguely recall Death Knights and the undead in the Ebon Hold sensing the event in the short story We Ride Forth, but whether that extends to imprisoned Scourge (like those in the Violet Hold) is uncertain. For all we know, Bolvar may have completely abandoned them (as was implied by Anub’esset in Legion upon his death) before the Helm was shattered.

So, for the purposes of these events: some Scourge fugitives will be aware that the Lich King is dead, while others may remain in the dark and seek to regain his favor.

Once the events are over, you are more than welcome to disregard any of the assumptions I have made entirely. The goal isn’t to force headcanons on anyone - it is simply to create the best and coolest experience possible for everyone involved!

In the dark days of the Scourgewar, the creature known as Stonewing the Necropolis became a cursed legend whispered in the frostbitten tales of Taunka and Tuskarr tribes alike. A towering, monstrous gargoyle made from crystallized, necrotic stone and the darkest of magics. Its bloodcurdling shriek shattered the wills of mortals, and its wings, like the walls of Naxxramas, blotted out the sky itself.

Only through a grim alliance between the Death Knights of Acherus and the wizards of the Kirin Tor was the creature’s reign of destruction across the Frozen Wastes finally brought to an end. Beyond its endless hunger for life, the Ebon Blade uncovered something fouler at its core and offered the Kirin Tor their findings. With this knowledge, the two orders lured it into a trap, capturing the monstrosity and sealing it away within the Violet Hold.

Now, Violet Warden Magnolius suspects the Deepflayer-creature the Stormriders of Dornogal claim to have pursued into the Ringing Deeps, is none other than Stonewing – having managed to survive Dalaran’s destruction.

Though the secret intel from the Ebon Blade that once caged the Necropolis may again be used to their advantage, no prison lies ready this time. And should they find themselves face-to-face with Stonewing… there is no telling who will emerge the victor and who will have to greet True Death.

In this thread, I will be introducing some of the Scourge fugitives we will be facing in no particular order. Meet Stonewing the Necropolis.

There are still 5 spots left for the first event!

In exactly 1 week from today, we Death Knights will gather at the ruins of Dalaran, upon the Isle of Dorn, where we will begin our hunt for Arthas’ former lieutenants!

If you’re an Arathi, Earthen or even a Kirin Tor roleplayer and would be interested in potential interactions, either before or after the main events, please don’t hesitate to reach out! I’d love the opportunity for our characters to cross paths.

I’ve made a Discord server for the event. For now, it’s just called ‘Death Knight’.

While its primary intent is to be a place for event-attendees to meet up and chat, anyone who is remotely interested in following the events, or simply wants to talk about all-things-Death Knight, are more than welcome to join!

If things work out, it would be really cool to see the channel become a Death Knight hub for the server.

I will be taking a few more creative liberties during the course of these events. I suppose they can work as teasers for what is to come! They are as follows:

Did the Kirin Tor imprison captives in the Violet Hold for study?
AFAIK it’s unconfirmed. Judging by some relatively weak TBC creatures from the first Violet Hold dungeon, it’s likely. For these events, I am going to assume they did, but will be keeping it vague.
Can Death Knights / powerful Scourge raise Nerubians of Azj-Kahet as undead?
Once again, we don’t know. Here I feel like it would be too big of a thing to assume, seeing as it took a lot of power for even the Lich King to do so with the Nerubians of Northrend. So we will play it safe and assume no.

Bear in mind:

Tomorrow, Death lands on the Tranquil Strand! There are still 5 spots left!

Join the Discord server if you want to follow the progress of the events, talk about all-things Death Knight or if you have any questions!

Suffer Well!

Septuple-posting! Tonight is the night and it’s not too late to sign up!

Introducing tonight’s Scourge fugitive: Marrowblister.

Marrowblister, a rumored creation of Professor Putricide himself, once spread pestilence like wildfire across the war-torn, icy wastes of Northrend. This heaving mass of ruptured flesh, bloated organs, and noxious gas was one of the vilest creations ever birthed by the Scourge. During the Scourgewar, the monster’s mere presence was enough to wither trees, turn rivers putrid and drown battalions in sickness. The Kirin Tor could not destroy it. They could only contain it, and so they imprisoned the creature within the Violet Hold in a stasis cell never meant to be opened again.

And then Dalaran fell.

Marrowblister crawled free from the violet ruins, lurching out onto the open plains of Dorn. Wounded, but “alive”. With every oozing step, it defiled the land - clouding the skies in plague vapors and seeding the soil with rot.

Only in its weakened state was the abomination finally felled - struck down from the sky by Baelgrim’s Stormriders in a swift, thunderous assault.

But death has not claimed it. Not truly.

Its putrid, swollen corpse lies still where it fell, half-sunken into the rotting soil. Barely deteriorating, as though waiting…

But that’s not all…

The Violet Warden brings grim tidings.

Lately, hooded figures have been spotted skulking among the ruins of Dalaran on the Tranquil Strand. They move in silence beneath the broken, violet spires - scavenging in search of dark and forbidden relics buried beneath the rubble. Artifacts once sealed away by the Kirin Tor for good reason.

The Cult of the Damned has come to Khaz Algar.

But Violet Warden Magnolius does not believe they are only here for artifacts. He fears they seek contact with the Violet Hold’s former prisoners, and this must not come to pass.

Magnolius has summoned the Knights of the Ebon Blade to the ruins of Dalaran, that they might begin their hunt by destroying the death cultists before their rot spreads further into the lands of Khaz Algar.

Event 1: Through Rot and Ruin begins at 20:00 server time. There are still spots left, so even if you have not signed up yet, you are more than welcome to show up spontaneously if you have time on your hands! It’s going to be a blast.

See you on the Tranquil Strand!

Last night was an absolute blast!

Summary of Event 1: Through Rot and Ruin.
At the ruins of Dalaran, the Violet Warden, meant to meet the Ebon Blade, was nowhere to be found. While searching the shattered, violet spires for signs of him and the cult, a lone hooded figure was spotted and pursued. Cornered, the cultist shattered a relic - unleashing a towering, black wraith to cover his escape. The spirit was swiftly devoured by the runeblade of Sedrick Walton, and the hunt pressed eastward after the cultist.

Out on the plains, the cultists were found in a ritual circle around the fallen corpse of a grotesque Flesh Beast: Marrowblister. Through dark incantations, they poured unholy energy into its rotting form, dragging it back from the brink of True Death. As the abomination rose, the cultists scattered and fled.

Thanks to Sedrick’s cunning, the Ebon Blade used the terrain against the creature, bringing it crashing down. Already wounded from earlier battles with the Stormriders, Marrowblister was finally destroyed. Seemingly, this time for good.

The trail led south to Freywold, a village on edge. There, the Earthen spoke of masked figures, Arathi in stature, heading for the nearby mountain tower. Within Dhar Durgaz, the Death Knights found the cultists mid-ritual - draining the very soul from the missing Violet Warden. The attackers were swiftly slain, the Warden freed… though his spirit had been frayed by the ordeal.

Among the cultists’ belongings, a blood-scrawled message was uncovered by Johnny Rotbourne. It spoke of a dark master communing from below - in a cavern where cursed Light still burns. There, he intends to raise an army of the dead from a colony of half-elves. Two other cultist groups, plaguebringers among them, have already descended to join him. The resurrection of Marrowblister was meant to distract the surface.

The Ebon Blade resolved to hunt down the remaining cultists and their mysterious master - likely another Scourge fugitive of the Violet Hold. But the Warden issued a warning: the Ringing Deeps, which lie on the path to Hallowfall, are currently besieged by a terror of stone and shadow - an immense gargoyle, the largest the Violet Warden has ever seen.

Stonewing the Necropolis must fall.

Next up: The Ringing Deeps!

I don’t have a date for the next event yet but it will likely take place in two weeks’ time. I will make sure to announce it as soon as I know!

Thanks to everyone who attended the first event! There are more to come!

Event 2, which will feature Stonewing the Necropolis, will be on May 10th instead of on the 1st as I originally wrote. This change should give a few more folks the chance to attend and be part of the action.

Will you be among them? If you want a way for your Death Knight to be introduced to the Worldsoul Saga early on, this is also the perfect opportunity to do so - seeing as it is highly likely we will encounter more than just Scourge down in the depths…

“I see him… death itself… in black armor…”

“You left us to rot, Arthas!”

“For Khaz Modan!”

“Tell Baelgun… we should’ve turned back…”

During the war against the Lich King, champions of the Argent Crusade unearthed something dark and nightmarish deep beneath the ice. In the ruins of the Nerubians’ ancient empire, they discovered a massive construct of bones, shadow and sorrow. Its voice - or rather, voices… unmistakably dwarven.

Through the tormented cries constantly spilling from the creature, the crusaders were able to piece together the haunting truth: these were lost souls of Muradin’s expedition - dwarves who had followed Baelgun into Azjol-Nerub to survive after Arthas had abandoned them to pursue his cursed path. In the depths of the spider kingdom, they had met their agonizing end at the hands of the Scourge, slaughtered by undead Nerubians and their king, Anub’arak, under the cold gaze of Arthas himself.

Their souls were since claimed by Scourge necromancers, transformed into a shadowy amalgamation and then bound within a prison of bone – a construct cursed to forever relive the last, waking moments of each soul within.

Bound by powerful, dark magic, the amalgamation was beyond the crusaders’ power to destroy. Alas, they were nonetheless determined to grant the dwarves peace, and so they turned to the Kirin Tor for aid.

The Kirin Tor brought the amalgamation of tormented, dwarven souls to the Violet Hold, hoping that containment would yield time to study it and perhaps, one day, free the souls from their torment - if not by the crusade’s hands, then by their own. But weeks turned to months, and months became years. In the end, the creature was largely left forgotten behind the Violet Hold’s enchanted barriers.

Now, the Violet Warden recounts the tale of his capture:

He had followed the Cult of the Damned from the ruins of Dalaran and found them escorting the forgotten amalgamation toward one of the ancient, Earthen lifts. He attempted to intervene but was overpowered. He suspects the cultists may still be in the Ringing Deeps if they haven’t made it to Hallowfall already, where, as per the blood-stained parchment the Death Knights found, their dark master awaits their arrival…

Introducing another Scourge fugitive: The Amalgamation of Souls.

Interesting things are in the works! If you’ve ever wanted to dip your toes into Death Knight RP - this is an opportune moment!
