Do we all just have Dawn or Song in our IC surnames?

My elf is slightly different in that regard.. character name is also her last name. The reason being that, with her family tree dating way back until ancient kaldorei times, not once did her ancestors change their family name to a more appropriate sun-themed one, in remembrance of their ancient heritage. She herself isn't a fan of it, though.
My paladin's last name is Silverlight.

*shrugs*
It's not that much better for night elves. My character's surname is Wintermist; you'd think it avoids more typical night elf surname roots (such as leaf, moon, song, wind, and strike), but I still ran into two characters with the same surname, who were not related to my character or each other.

And once during an event in Ashenvale, I ended up in a team consisting of a Wintermist (me), a Winterflow, and a Wintersbite. We nicknamed it "Team Winter".
I'm an Embershade, thank you very much.
While we're at it... This is a new character, I'm looking for a good sin'dorei surname for her. Suggestions welcome and appreciated.
Well, well, well. Joke's on you, Valistrophe's got "Spellsinger."

I've got you. https://imgur.com/a/6mqTpf7
Thanks Val. :P
Just stop having a last name. Easy.
I have night elf characters with the last names Wintermoon, Whispersong and Mistrunner, as well as a void elf with the last name Sunsinger. Furthermore I have dwarves with the last names Hammerforge, Mountaindirge and Featherbraid (guess the different clans!).

I embrace the cliche.
Valerunner represent.

I don't mind it. It's like how most Vietnamese people have Nguyen and most Welsh people have Jones, Smith or Thomas.
I wish I'd have picked a different surname for Yue than "Sagepaw", but I'm stuck with it now. Too many word-paws out there, but there's also some wholesome simplicity in having a generic name, I'll admit.

Yeah this guy gets it.
I much prefer the more Tolkein sounding elvish surnames like Lor'themar has but it's not something I regularly see amongst belf rpers.
I went with Dawnreaver
....

Marlight isn't a problem?

I gave my nightborne the surname Erendiz, which I chose because it's Turkish for Jupiter and Nightborne have the whole astronomy thing.

I can never hear the name of Charlize Theron, without wondering if somehow, somewhere, our universes bled over. I mean come on, I can't be the only one who thought that?

We all need to get really a bit more creative with our elf/paladin surnames on Horde side. We all have dawn, song, fall, light, or sun in our names or some combination therein. I'm not innocent of this (Dawntree here), but we all need to stop using the same 4 name generators for this....

That's the canon, basically. If blizzard is being unimaginative, think up a better name.

I myself am an offender, having been a Song, Blade, Fire and Glade. Options are limited. Especially when we lack examples of "proper" elf names in their respective dialects but for a few npcs. This is especially troublesome for blood elves as Thalassian is one of the most developed languages in the game.

Like Theron*

But pretty much. I like giving them the (first) name of a notable ancestor, making the surname more meaningful (Velaron, Theryel, as surnames). I see the two-word surname as something more akin to an unofficial title stemming from a notable quality/deed (isn't it?). In my headcanon, it doesn't replace the original name.

What friends have done/do is use untranslated Thalassian/Darnassian words in rough combination for a better/more immersive elven effect.
