Do you let FOMO control you?

I’m usually impatient with updates and will log out and back in the forum to hurry it along if the armory is working :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

Not everyone plays or thinks the same way that you do.

I think it’s a funny topic.

I play the game a lot, whether there is FOMO or not I’m on this game most days. So needless to say I collect most things. But do I collect them because they are fomo or do I collect them because it’s just something fun to collect in the game.

I have done things that I don’t enjoy ofc. Plunderstorm comes to mind but I literally just played it for two days, then it was done and I went back to Retail. However there are lots of activities I’ve found huge fun and have happily collected things too.

So according to Niv :kissing_heart: I’m a solid 9.5/10 but I would probably put it more at 5/10. I wouldn’t sub to the game for a specific reward if I’m on a break. There are rewards I don’t have from short term events because I couldn’t be bothered to mass farm them. Other things I’ve gone hell for leather like when the love rocket prior to the change in drop system.

With the trading post it’s impossible to buy everything so you just kind of pick at bits you want and rely on stuff coming back around again.

As I said I main Guardian Druid. I don’t use mounts.

M+ is what I spend most of my time doing and I don’t care about the rewards because it’s a mount I won’t use. I don’t think the portals are a good reward.

I usually use my own key and just fly to the dungeon and wait for someone else to show up and summon the lazyheads.

I think there are a lot of psychological nuances to it.

But engagement is probably where it all begins.
The more you engage with a system, the more likely you will also develop an interest for it.
And WoW has many systems.
Mounts. Pets. Achievements. Transmogs. Toys. Titles. Professions. And so on.
And they are all designed to grow on you over time. No one becomes a hardcore collector from one day to the other. It tends to happen incrementally over time, because engagement transforms to interest. And the game keeps giving you more mounts and pets and achievements all the time, so you constantly engage with the systems, and then slowly also develop more interest for them.

And once the interest is there it’s really just a matter of Blizzard hitting the proverbial jackpot and designing that particular mount you think looks absolutely awesome and amazing.

You’ll of course want it then, and if there’s a FOMO component to it, then the motivation to get it is only stronger.

In order to transcend beyond FOMO, one would have to not engage with any of WoW’s systems or show no interest for them at all. Few players fit that bill.

And as I said, you don’t need to prove yourself to me. You know best what you do, and you’re awesome. :+1:

Calling me a saint was enough. Awesome is pushing it.

FOMO used to bother me, but from ages 25 to 27, my perspective changed, especially with games like Destiny that overcharge while underdelivering.

I’m fed up with companies exploiting gambling and social pressures. I’d support government bans on these practices in Europe. I don’t care about developers’ justifications; they’re as culpable as executives. When such games fail and jobs are lost due to poor decisions, I feel no sympathy.

I said it was a bit too saint-like to me, and yes, the awesome is pushing it, because I don’t believe it. But I don’t really have an axe to grind, although I do note you have a nice collection of promotional items and store bought things. So 0/10? C’mon. That’s not honest self-reflection.

What promotional stuff specifically?

I already said I fire and forget sub, Blizz throws in that stuff as part of the 6 month or year long sub. I also said I do the 100% drop rate stuff.

What don’t you believe? I really do main a Guardian Druid and I don’t use mounts. Do you think I just tank keys in Nelf form so people can see my promotional items?

Isn’t that a bit far fetched?
FOMO is the fear of MISSING out… The fact that you’re playing content you like and opening your travelers log to check that progress doesn’t all of a sudden mean, that you have FOMO… Not opening it whilst knowing it exists would be like you saying checking the loot table in a raid means you have FOMO…

Acknowledging the existence of a system doesn’t all of a sudden mean you have an urge to complete it… Curiosity is a thing after all…

I would rate myself very low, I go for the stuff I want to and that feels fun. Some mounts I do like, but I don’t have all of the ones that is obtainable right next to Valdrakken (Can’t remember the hourly events name), does it mean I’m 7/10 because I know which mounts are available even though I’m not going for them?
I also know which mounts are purchasable from the pre-patch event, I tried it but didn’t like it… With your logic I can’t be a 0/10 because I looked… And I do want the mounts, so at least 2/10 right? But I’m not going for them? So where is the fear of missing out here?

Umm I feel like this is hard to agree or disagree with, simply because I didn’t specify what each number means, like I did with 1 and 10. So we would first need to come to an overall ranking of what each number within the list means, kind a like how grading systems work.

So until we arrive or create these specifications, it would make more sense for each person to rank themselves as to each person the ranking’s meaning itself changes. In this case two people who each said 2/10 could have entirely different understanding of what that means.

I think it changed over time as well. I remember doing the rep grinds for other members of the faction to be able to get their mounts too. But you didn’t really want them all in the early days because you had to carry that mount in your bag. The changes in systems made it easier and more desirable to collect.

i 100% need to get the elite pvp sets

but other stuff i dont care much about
PVE stuff i can buy a boost or come back later and solo it

Fomo hits hard if its time limited and the rewards are worth the effort, but the only true fomo in the game is PvP rewards
PVE rewards can be boosted if you have gold

So can the PVP rewards… If you tune into Lontar’s stream as an example, him and one other guy does Glad boost for gold… And depending on your role, 2v2 boosting is very much possible too, specially if its “just” for the 1.8k tmog

not without a hefty ban, which lontar is repeatedly banned for

Boosting for gold is not against ToS ?

in pvp it is, rated pvp boosting or win trading is bannable

most r1 pvpers make seperate accounts for boosting so their " main" are not affected

No its not…

“*Individuals and guilds selling boost or assistance in raiding, dungeon, or PvP activities for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade Services chat channel.”

I think you missed the changes they made, where boosting for gold is now allowed… I don’t think Lontar would be streaming him boosting people if it was bannable

the full script is found on support :

**Selling in-game items and services such as carries or boosting for real money is not allowed. Organizations who offer boosting, matchmaking, escrow, or other non-traditional services, including those offered for gold are prohibited, especially those who operate across multiple realms.

Individuals and guilds selling items and profession services for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade chat channel.

Individuals and guilds selling boost or assistance in raiding, dungeon, or PvP activities for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade Services chat channel. Advertising for gameplay activities should be done by a WoW player-character who intends to participate in the gameplay activities. This means there should be no cross-realm advertising, and there should be no advertising from non-participating players.**

basically gotta boost on the character that plans to carry
doubt they could boost past 1.8 though

Exactly… It literally says what I said? xD

So good we can agree, that boosting for gold is not against ToS even in PVP

Weird he literally is selling glad boosts then
